Zoo Med Wood Tortoise House

> 3 dayWe ordered two of these to put together as an indoor/nighttime enclosure for our two baby sulcata tortoises. My husband put them together on a 6 foot table and removed the inner walls to give them the space. They love having 2 houses/hideouts and alternate between them. Plenty of room for both (for now...lol!). The quality of the boxes was as expected (we read the other reviews), good for indoors, wouldnt keep them outdoors in it overnight. The boxes have good latches on them, so day time use outside would be o.k. We lined the bottom with vinyl tiles for easy cleanup.

> 3 dayDid not come with any screws or instructions. now I just have a pile of wood pieces and nothing to put them together with also the bottom board is totally different than the one on the box Its not a solid piece but several boards nailed together.

> 3 dayWe originally had Squirt, our Russian tortoise, in a 40-gallon tank, but the glass walls drove her to distraction (although she did love dinner time, as she could see us eating and she ate then too) We dont share dinner time with her any more, but shes so much calmer now with the solid walls, and shes getting better light with the barred top rather than filtered light through the mesh.

Greater than one weekThe design of this product is poor. It does not provide wire mesh on the sides so animals can see out. Even better would be rigid clear plastic sides. Our bearded dragons freaked out when we put them into it. The wood of the tortoise house is so thin and flimsy it might as well be made out of balsa. One corner broke within a week with only moderate handling. I managed to nail the corner back so it is holding up, but I do not see us getting much use out or the product. We would return it if we still had the box. Do not buy this product. You will not be satisfied with it.

> 3 dayThis is SO SUPER CUTE! It works great and my tortoises LOVE their new home! I think it is adorable that it is named Tortoise House because its EXACTLY what it is! They had a very similar yet larger enclosure before but have quickly and happily adjusted--safe from the cats. Thank you so very much! QUALITY!

> 3 dayThese are nice but dont let them get 2 wet, I sealed and then used stick on tile so I could keep the dirt moist for my marginated. (we actually put 2 together so he has enough room to roam, definitely worth the $!

> 3 dayThis was (relatively) easy to assemble and has provided a great home for our new Russian tortoise!

Greater than one weekMy sister has an adult Hermanns tortoise, so we purchased 2 of these habitats to give him enough room to roam. The habitats were easy enough to put together, although having a power drill is necessary to at least get the screws started (our weak power drill required a lot of manual screwdriver work!). We used peel and stick linoleum tiles to line the bottom of the habitats. Lesson learned – stick the tiles before attaching the sides to the bottom of the habitat instead of trying to cut the tiles and install afterwards. [Tiles come standard 12”x12”, so 6 fit each habitat perfectly.] Hinges and latches are pre-attached to the sides of the habitats – a definite bonus. Because we were attaching 2 habitats together, we had to move the hinges for one wire-topped panel to the other side so that both would open in the same direction, but that was not a big deal. We also removed the latches intended to keep the top panels locked and re-purposed them (2 on each side) to join the 2 habitats together, allowing the habitats to be easily separated for cleaning or moving. Overall, these habitats will be a great new home for Otis the Tortoise!

> 3 dayEDIT: Id like to change my rating to just one star. After having this product a mere month the wood has started to split and break off into pieces. Im pissed. Poor Quality, all around. First I had to change the latches, and now the wood is just breaking off. I wish I could get a refund. Save your money, you could easily make this at home for a fourth the price. Nice design but really a poor product . Its not secure!! This is for an outdoor tortoise the thing wobbles if you push on it. The latches on mine were drilled (by the company not me) on the wood in a way so that the wind could knock the damn thing open. The covered section has a latch on one side only and if you push the other side you can get it open a good 6+ inches. I paid a lot of money for something that in order for me to use it for what its intended for Im going to have to go to the hardware store and purchase additional latches and screws Im not a happy Costumer at all! I would return it if I didnt think it was such a hassle to do so. The 2 stars is for the design. I want to nota a lot of people said they rated it lower for its lack of windows or clear sides so the tortoise could socialize with them. I wanted to say I commend this company for NOT making the sides see though and for giving the tortoise an entire section where it can hide from human interaction. Tortoises dont understand glass, or plastic. If they can see through it they think they can walk through it. And they will continuously bang their heads against the plastic/glass trying to walk through it. I had a tortoise a while ago that gave himself a nasty bump on his head because of this, he lived in a glass aquarium. So 2 stars for the concept But this enclosure doesnt keep anything enclosed unless youre willing to spend some extra money & time fixing it up.
