I like the way this fan looks in the window. I like that it takes up less space than a typical window fan, by about 50%. Airflow is excellent, reversibility is convenient, and when it’s off, it closes the airflow to reduce draft. And the remote control is a must-have. Slick. The built-in thermostat appears to function well. The fan is not especially quiet. On the lowest setting, it’s loud enough to be distracting while trying to sleep, at ~4-5’ away. More than just “white noise“ but not super loud either. The controls are good, though not as intuitive as they could be. For example: - The up-and-down arrows are on the left and right side of the remote control ring. Placing them at the top and bottom would be more intuitive, particularly while you’re laying in bed in the dark. - Because the controls go into hibernation automatically, the first press of any button just reawakens the controls. So you need to press twice for any function.

I bought a regular 2 fan window fan last week and didnt like it a ton, so decided to give this one a try. Very happy I did. I have this in a 38 window, but theres enough blocks to go to 42 and have it be secure. What I like: 1. Temperature sensor for the room and the temp you want it to shut off at. 2. Doesnt feel like its on the verge of falling out of the window at all. 3. Didnt see this described on the product description, but one button press and the blades readjust to vent out air instead of draw in. This one is huge for me as turning the whole window unit around every time is a pain in the butt. 4. Its powerful on full blast but it is noisy. Typical of a tower style room fan noise level. 5. It barely vibrates. I have older windows, and the two fan style window fan would cause a glass panel to vibrate and produce a ton of annoying sound. Cons: 1. Not sure what type of window ledge it was designed for to create a perfect seal. Not a huge deal as I can just cut up some black window foam to push in the couple gaps. 2. Remote battery was DOA. Not a huge deal as well as its a common size thats pretty cheap as far as disc batteries go. This is a cool little fan and plan to grab one for another room soon. I have a vornado tower fan in a room for the last year that Ive been very pleased with as well.

I always sleep with a fan on but wanted one that would blow air across the bed. This fan checked a lot of boxes for me including low noise, fit in the window, blowing air right across the bed at the right level and the remote at 3 am is nice. The unit is a little pricey and if there is any one thing going against it, it is the price. Function-wise, I’m happy with the purchase. It is super easy to install. Just sit it in the window frame, lower the window onto the unit, plug it in and you’re done. They also provide some insulated spacers to give a secure fit. The noise level from the fan is not bad. I havent had any problem sleeping because of the noise but its not super quiet either. Overall, its a good fan if you are looking for a window fan but it is not worth the price in my opinion.

First one I bought, arrived, tested it out before even installing in window, power came on all buttons worked but the fan never spun or even made a sound like it wanted to spin. Was disappointed!!! Decided Id try one more time. Sent the first one back, new one came in 2 days and this one worked fine. It is quieter than any twin window fan I have. I love the fact I cant see out through it and no on can see in so it offers great privacy. Im still tweaking the installation, the window I have it in isnt wide so there was only about 3/4 inch on either side. The blocks they give you to install on each side I had never seen before, and I could put the smallest on on one side, but the other smallest one was too thick to fit in the other side. I ended up taking a box cutter and cutting as deep as I could vertically on the front and back of the block, then took a smooth butcher knife and just sliced right through it. Took about 2 min and it fits great. My problem is in the window I have it in the fan doesnt fit ALL the way down - it goes down enough to lock it in place, but because of that I have about a 1/4 in little hole at the bottom where the expander blocks go against the fan - I will cut a piece of the extra blocks and fill in the hole. Over all Im very pleased with this fan, it looks great in the window, blocks air when turned off, does a great job of bringing in fresh air, or exhausting air, and is quieter than I expected. It is quieter than my bathroom exhaust fan which has a very low Sone rating. I will be ordering another one.

I found this to be an easy installation with an easy setup and get it going right away. It is quiet, however, the amount of air it moves is not really that impressive. We live in the desert where I am trying to take advantage of getting cool air in the night to give the AC a break. This is good for a bedroom, but limited to that.

My number one priority, in purchasing a window fan, was to get something QUIET. I had spent more money than I would have liked purchasing the traditional two fan window units that are so common today. Based on the promise and supporting reviews that they were very quiet fans, I purchased both a popular Bionaire and a Holmes fan. They were ok, but not nearly good enough. I wanted a fan as quiet as my ceiling fan on low and those two weren’t even in the ballpark. So through more searching, I eventually landed on the Vornado Transom. It’s not a traditional fan by any stretch of the imagination, but a few people said it was extremely quiet. Desperate to find something quieter than the others, I placed my bet. This fan is ACTUALLY quiet! On it’s lowest setting, it is a whisper compared to the other two. No, it’s not ceiling fan quiet, but I would compare it to the sound I’d hear coming through the vent when my central air is running. That’s pretty quiet! On high, yes the fan is much more noisy, but it moves a lot more air when on high. To be clear, low speed moves plenty of air, and high speed is not more noisy than the other models on high. Another difference between the Vornado and the other models, is the the fan speeds are SIGNIFICANTLY different. The difference between low and high on the other models is marginal at best. With the Vornado, low is ACTUALLY low… and high is ACTUALLY high. So you can choose between a quiet fan that gives you a nice breeze, or a noisy fan that moves air with quite a bit of force. Again, this unit on high was about as noisy as the other fans on high. On low, there is no contest. Do you get what I’m saying yet? THIS FAN IS VERY QUIET… MUCH quieter than any other window fan I’ve tried. So that’s the big sell for me. Other good features: The temperature selection works well. I set it up for 70 degrees, and it effectively turned on and off as necessary to bring in the cooler outside air. Since I keep the fan on low, I barely noticed when it turned on and off at all. This fan also gives you great privacy because you can’t see through it whether it’s on or off. A couple of not so great things about it... First, the foam blocks are not great. I needed an additional block that was 1/4 inch wide… I either had to try and squish a 1 inch block in that space (nope) or use something else to seal it. Vornado should rethink this strategy or include 1/2 and 1/4 inch blocks too. Considering the high quality construction of the unit, and the steeper price tag, Vornado should come up with something more eloquent. Secondly, the remote isn’t wonderful. You have to aim it DIRECTLY at the unit while you are DIRECTLY in front of it. And the range of the remote seems to be a pitiful 15 feet or so. I don’t know if that’s typical of this unit, but it’s definitely not great. Despite those two shortcomings, I still give the unit 5 stars based on its EXTREMELY LOW noise level given the decent amount of air it moves. If I ever need an additional window fan, this is the one I’ll get.

On the positive side the fan is very quiet and it fits well in my window. It allows me to leave the window only about 4 inches open which means I can put stoppers on the window and keep anyone from breaking in. The negatives, however, outweigh the positives. Even on high, the fan barely moves any air. A light breeze outside and an open window will do more. The controls are also impossible to see during the day. I had to wait until nighttime to setup the fan direction and speed, and then just turn it on and off during the day. The remote control is no help either. It only intermittently works, the buttons are in the wrong places (the up is on the right and the down is on the left). And the temperature mode and fan direction mode buttons are reversed. The button with the thermometer (bottom) controls the fan direction, and the one with the odd direction symbol (top) controls the temperature setting. Update on the air flow: It turns out the slider that determines the airflow direction was stuck half way. I disassembled the unit and manually moved it all the way in one direction, and now the airflow is quite good.

I bought this fan to use in my apartment as an odor extractor for the time I cook. Its the best decision ever! I put it in my living room window, since I dont have one in the kitchen, I turn it on when I start cooking and it pushes all the food outdoors out. Fully recommend!

This is our second fan purchased. Love to bring the fresh night air in as long as possible and this product does a great job with several settings and a remote.

Vornado TRANSOM Window Fan with 4 Speeds, Remote Control, Reversible Exhaust I have just received this today, 3-24-22. Well, the first thing about this unit that I am REALLY disappointed in is the Remote. It does not work unless you are standing directly in front of the unit. This kind of defeats the purpose for having a remote in the first place, especially if it is being used in the bedroom. Considering the price of this fan, I am really surprised that Vornado does not have a better remote available for this unit. It would be nice to have a remote that shows on the remote what settings the fan is on. If you are looking for a remote controlled fan for your bedroom or other room that is not in a window directly in front of you then this may not be the fan for you until there is an upgrade in the remote. Come on Vornado, please upgrade your tech! If you have metal windows, you wont be able to keep the screen on if you install it in the bottom channel, as directed. I had to set the bottom lip under the fan on the inside window sill/stool just in front of the metal window frame, otherwise, I would have had to remove the screen to make it fit. It will be interesting to see if it leaks onto the sill if it rains. It is a pain to have to take the fan out of the window when it rains. One of the reasons I purchased this is because it is marketed as weather resistant. I will follow up on this review after it rains to determine if it can be left in the window. The air flow is pretty good but the TURBO setting is not as strong as expected. I like the temp control feature but I will have to test this out a little more before I know for sure that it works as stated. I love that his fan is relatively quiet and the low profile doesnt block the outside view. & the exhaust feature is a plus to be able to pull stale air and excess heat out of the room. Well, thats it for now. I will follow up after a few more days after it rains. For now, 3 star review is mostly due to the limitations of the remote. UPDATE 4/2/22 : The fan can stay in the window when it rains without leaking. Thats a plus! In my area, I have thick yellow pollen so I purchased PollenTec Clean Air Window Screen Air Purifying Filter Material and cut it to the height of the fan and the width of the window. Since the back of the fan fits snugly against the window screen & due to the closed sides and the way the back of the fan is made it fits perfectly between the window screen & the back of the fan to act as a pollen filter without hindering the air flow or letting in pollen around the edges. It can be easily cleaned if it gets clogged by removing it and spraying it with water. The thermostat is not so accurate, but can be tolerated. This fan could use a bit of updating with the remote and thermostat but all in all it meets my needs. It probably wont work well for a room larger then 12 X14.
