Greater than one weekI was looking for a cold mist humidifier able to cover a reasonably large room, ideally ramping up humidity levels quickly in the evening without causing condensation. In addition, based on experience with 10 or so prior models weve been using, being able to switch off display and other lights and low noise levels were additional desired features. The product performed above expectations on all of these. It puts out a ton of moisture and the ability to set a desired target rate through the app is extremely convenient. The app works well, which isnt necessarily something I expect with most smart products, so thats nice. Regarding some of the downsides Ive seen in reviews: - I havent tried the warm mist feature since its not something I need or was looking for in a humidifier. - Not sure how precise the humidity measure is and it doesnt really make a practical difference to me. If the room feels too dry, I set up the desired humidity. If its too moist I dial it down.

> 3 dayI love this thing! Looking at it just makes me happy! The color is great, I love that its white and the touch screen makes it feel so modern. Love the remote because I can change settings without getting up if I needed to. It does make some noise, I would say less than a fan but still noticeable if you are sensitive to noises. The higher the moist level you choose the noise it is. I love white noise so not a downside for me but if you wanted something silent this is probably not for you. It does last a super long time if you fill it up and I put it on the second just level on 75% humidity. It will auto shut off when it gets close to being empty which is so relieving. I never worry about it overheating or burning etc because it has auto shut off every single time! I fill it with distilled water because I despise cleaning my products and didnt want mineral build up since my water is so hard. Ive been using it for about three weeks and still havent noticed any of the build up others mentioned and I use it every night on the week days and all day on the weekend. I will say if you are looking to buy this just buy it new! Do not buy used... I tried buying it used first and the one I got said no damage except the box and the box was sMASHED. Looks like someone kicked it around and sat on it which of course meant the machine inside was all scratched up as well as had insane amounts of white residue EVERYWHERE not just in the tunnel area but in the box on the machine, literally everywhere. Pretty annoying when it was labeled as very good quality with only damage to the box. Anyways, if you buy new you will have no problems with that because when I bought a new one it was perfectly clean with a nice new box and no residue. BUY IT!

> 3 dayThis humidifier works very well in a large room. I have used it in my living/dining room for about 2 years now . I didnt use it over the summers though as there was no need for it. I like the multiple settings and large tank. The problem is that, even though I handled it carefully, it developed a leak in the tank seam between the clear part and the white bottom in less than a year. I used it for a total of 9-11 months and stored it the rest of the time. After storage I filled it and it started to leak. This is a fairly expensive unit and it makes no sense to replace it every year. I have always used distilled water in it and handled it with care. I have searched for a replacement tank but have found none. I tired to seal the tank seam with silicone sealant but that only worked for about 2-3 weeks. Now I have to throw the hole thing away and find something that will hopefully will last. Review Update: 12/19/22: It turns out that while I only used the humidifier for about 9-11 months it was actually over 2 winter seasons so I actually owned it for almost 2 years before the tank started leaking. About 3 weeks after I sealed the tank with silicon sealant, it started leaking again. This time I looked at the base unit and realized I had a 2 year warranty, unfortunately when I checked my purchase date on Amazon, it was 5 days past 2 years. I decided to call Levoit service and see what they could do for me. They said I needed to send them the purchase receipt and a pic of the leaking part. I did and they send me whole new unit. I have changed my rating from 1 to 4 because of the great service. I didnt give it a 5 because it still failed pretty early in its life.

10-11-2024After a few months I finally figured out that NONE of the humidifiers mentioned in my original review are suitable for a) guitars, b) heavy use or c) use where water has a lot of minerals (i.e., hard water). The three units mentioned all employ what amounts to an inkjet-like sprayer. These spit VERY FINE calcium particles into the air (along with water) and that effect COMPLETELY COVERS EVERYTHING with a VERY FINE white (calcium) powder. I ultimately, moved to a FORTH humidifier from “AirCare” (also available on Amazon) after visiting a local guitar shop and seeing what they use. The AirCare unit does not use an inkjet-like design. So, no white powder. It’s also much larger and can keep a large room at 47% with ease. After many months with the AirCare, I’ve settled into a routine where I clean its “filter” with vinegar instead of simply changing the filter for a new one each time the machine asks for a filter change. This reduces cost of operation DRAMATICALLY and lets me just fill with hard/tap water. IF you have a fancy guitar and need to control its humidity THE AIRCARE IS THE BEST (arguable only) answer. I have some nice acoustic guitars and live in the desert so a humidifier is a must. I’ve now purchased three different humidifiers (all from Amazon)... 1) this one; 2) the teardrop shaped one you see around here; 3) the Taotronic (blue/white, 4L w/ humidistat). The best choice has turned out be #3. The teardrop one is basic. Turn it on. It runs until empty. The mist is variable but otherwise there are no other controls. This one (Levoit) is the nicest looking. It’s got a bit of an Apple vibe. ...and it holds the most water. Features wise it tops the others with heat (which I could care less about), a remote (which I could care less about) and 6L capacity. You’d think because it holds more water that you’d fill it less often. But that’s not really the case as it tends to pump more water (without any obvious improvement in humidity) over the Taotronic one. The controls appear nicer but that too is misleading. I actually have found it to be LESS intuitive (it seems to ignore my “use the humidistat” option 60% of the time so I just fave up and set it to full auto. That works but it sets the humidity level to 60+% so it goes through more water. Good for plants but too much for my guitars (which want 45-50%). I have to refill them onceveach day or so but the Taotronics is WAY easier to pop the container, fill and reseat. The Levoit is actually a minor pita to refill. Not horrible. Just not the better of the two. The Taotronics also has a humidistat so you can push a button once or twice and ignore it letting the machine work up to the correct humidity and then act like a furnace/thermostat keeping the humidity just right. The Levoit does this too but 60% of the time the ui didn’t do what I expected (and the machine never turned on or never turned off). It’s got a Mac aesthetic but a PC implementation (if I’m making sense). The Taotronics is the opposite (function / ease of use over design aesthetic). Long story short, I’m going to get a second Taotronics and retire this and the hershey kiss shaped on.

> 3 dayI use this humidifier to keep my plants happy and it seems to be working. If you want to hear it, you have to put your ear right next to the motor and stop breathing. The display agrees with a digital hygrometer I bought separately, so its at least that accurate. Ive had other cheap humidifiers from the pharmacy that are garbage next to this one. If you love your houseplants, its worth the price. After a month, I finally got the app that you will need if you want the humidity to be above 60. The app is meant to control all manner of devices you may or may not have (which I dont), so it is a bit annoying, but thats just old Luddite me. I have been filling it with tap water even though purified or distilled water is recommended, but who is going to do that unless they have access to a huge reservoir of purified water? People that only use it when they are sick? I guess I could lug some reverse osmosis water home from the lab, but no. I havent yet noticed any lime deposits on my walls. What I have noticed is an increase in tiny flies in my apartment. I find them floating in the reservoir of the humidifier, so Im pretty sure theyre attracted to the humidity. I dont know how to deal with them yet. I clean it once a week and refill it in between cleanings. And though I havent changed any filter parts yet, I definitely recommend this humidifier despite the app and the flies. It is the best humidifier Ive ever had.

Greater than one weekI have a wood stove, so dry air is a challenge, and Ive had about 10 different humidifiers in the past several years, so Im something of an expert, I guess. Ive tried Vicks, Bionaire, Homedic, and some more expensive units. But Ive had this for almost a month now, and I think my search is finally over... this unit has the highest output of any of the steam or cool mist units Ive tried. Its really very good, in all aspects, and I havent had any of the issues others have mentioned... it simply works, its quiet, and cleaning isnt hard at all. The controls and the amount of precise control you have over the output is excellent, and the humidistat seems to be very accurate. When its out of water it stops every time, and when you refill you dont have to reset all your settings... it holds them until you manually turn the unit off. I also like how small it is, and its very easy to move it to wherever you want it. Refilling is easy, it has jsut the right amount of capacity so its not too heavy to refill (I think its 1.5 gal) and the directional spouts work very well. Ive been extra careful with the tank after reading of some other peoples problems with cracks, and its been fine so far. Of course, with a wood stove, you need a LOT of humidity replacement. This Levoit can raise the humidity about 5-10%, but bear in mind Im using this in a fairly large area, 800 sq ft, which is almost twice the recommended room size for this unit... so technically this unit shouldnt be big enough. But I just put it near our seating area and it makes a big difference... I was surprised at how much more humid the area feels. I tried it in the master bedroom and it blew the Vicks unit away, and got it to 50% pretty quickly. With the wood stove going, none of my steam humidifiers could even move my humidity needle 1%. And out of all the ones Ive tried, only my huge evaporitive whole house humidifier has more output than this one... but while that beast can raise my humidity about 15-20% only when on the highest setting, its such a pain to keep clean, you need to add chemicals which I dont feel is very safe, and its really loud... so loud we didnt use it much. I cant really think of any negatives at all... its really a great unit. I guess if I could get 2 for the price of one it would be better, but its eel worth the money IMO. BTW, my suggestion is to stay away from cool mist... in fact I will never get a cool mist unit again. Even using 100% pure H2O (distilled) from my reverse osmosis system, it still makes a white dust, and the chemicals I tried only reduced the amount of dust, but didnt eliminate it. Theyre also really hard to keep clean, and bacteria is a real problem. Plus, who wants to add chemicals to the air you breath? Check it out... I dont think youll be disappointed. EDIT: Ive had it almost 2 years now, and the heat element stopped working for the warm mist. Granted, I use it daily all winter long, but in this day and age a heat element should last years. I simply wrote to Levoit, explained the problem, verified my receipt and all that, and theyre sending me a new one. No hassles, no cost. Thats the way it should be... great company that stands behind their products! How rare these days.

> 3 dayThis product is very quiet. I love the 3 mist settings and being able to actually see the level of humidity in the room. You definitely need to use some kind of carbon filter pellets in there if you have hard water. The tank is quite large. Wish this was a top loading tank though. This is not the easiest to clean. There are alot of parts under the tank and although alot of them come apart and come out, there are alot of small places not so easy to reach. Overall I really like this product.

> 3 dayLots to like about this humidifier but, there are a couple of minor things that could be improved in the next design. As others have said, filling the container is not nearly as simple as it could be with a better design. The container would be easier to clean if the fill hole was larger. The sleep mode works but, when turned back on, it doesnt seem to revert to its original setting. A longer cord would be helpful. The set humidity level doesnt seem to work consistently. Overall a great product; very quiet, well built, so far operates very smoothly. I would highly recommend it.
