Save yourself some money and buy this satellite communicator which has a small display screen. You can use its app on your smartphone instead and not have to pay for a bulky GPS unit that has a large built-in screen $$$.

Works with infinite tracking better. Battery is awsome and satellite reception works fine.

Would I buy it again? For the first unit I had I said, Not if I could find something more reliable. The replacement works well, so, yes I would buy it again. I still bring my ACR PLB . After multiple problems with the first unit I bought and calls to Garmin support, they, after some cajoling, sent me a new unit. It works. It does not mysteriously periodically drain the battery and the GPS syncs much more quickly than the first unit that was almost certainly defective.

Overall good communicator, however even in wide opened valleys often couldnt get GPS signal or/and send a message. What is amazing, that cell phone at that time were getting GPS position very fast and, judging by printed topo map that I also had with me, phone showed it correctly.

If you are looking for a TINY and LIGHTWEIGHT satellite communicator and SOS device that is used primarily for check-ins and emergencies, this is it. If you want a device for mapping and GPS navigation, get the inReach Explorer or something else. I use my mini for backpacking and turn in on a couple of times a day to send a preset message and check in with my wife. If it is used this way the battery will last a very long time. The user interface is very small (it has to be for the unit to be so tiny), but it pairs with a smartphone for easier operation. The mini is pretty cheap insurance for off the grid activities.

Its a great quality product that works as promised. I should have bought it years ago.

Strapped this on my (young-adult) kid who went hiking in Bolivia !! We were able to stay in touch using the app installed on a phone (iPhone, in this case). We could follow the progress of the hike through a website that was continually updated by the device. The battery lasted pretty well but we sent usb chargers, too. It is amazing that as long as this device can see the sky it can provide a way to be in touch anywhere in the world via text and the Garmin website.

This thing is really impressive. *not a touch screen* The fact that it pairs to a smart phone means none of the clunky UI of clicking the side buttons will bother you. Its a SatComm the size of a Tomagotchi bro...Its dope. Instantaneous speed, bearing, coordinates that resolve to a hilarious degree of accuracy, weather reports...maps on your phone...pre-fab or custom texts when you need them. Anywhere you go, the piece of mind is worth way more than this little doodad. Rad AF. If youre buying your first GPS, this is the one to get.
