I recommend visiting the Garmin website and doing research on plans and how to use the unit BEFORE purchasing it. The unit is well built and the battery lasts a long time but managing the account and understanding plans and how to manage the account is difficult. The website is poorly laid out and rather opaque and it is easy to to make unintended changes. Using the device is also not intuitive and requires patient study and youtube videos to do even a basic setup with it. Their customer service staff are very nice and helpful so do call if you need help. Unfortunately I have had the device for 6 months and it is still not properly set up. I suspect most people using it must be very motivated to learn or have previous Garmin experience. I would probably look at other devices before getting this if I were starting over.

    Greater than one week

No matter where I am, this just displays Wait for GPS for hours until it gets a signal. Once it has a signal, the text messaging rarely works and can take hours or days to send.

Great features but mini 2 has a lot of new options which make it a better buy for slightly more $

Worked great. Battery life could be better.

My favorite tracking company closed shop and I needed a tracking solution for my next event. The in-Reach mini works great even if I am using off label. I say that because the inReach is mostly marketed to outdoor adventurists and not endurance athletes.

Indispensabile per gli escursionisti, la sicurezza e la serenità dei familiari non hanno prezzo.

Works great. You do have to buy a subscription, but it’s still worth the piece on mind when hiking in the backcountry alone. The messaging works great and I’ve never had an issue trying to communicate when I have no cell service.

This thing is amazing! I bought an original InReach 4 years ago. This has a screen, and is a fraction of the size. It receives messages when people when people send them. In the past, you had to send a message to get the device to check for messages. This receives a message when its sent, and has a very easy to access menu to check for messages. Sending a message without a phone isnt really that bad! Yeah, its not a touch screen smartphone, but its like T9 back in the day. Pretty simple. Finally, weather reports show up on the devices screen and the phone, and you can write custom messages from a linked smart phone. This thing is great!

I’ve been back packing for years and always used paper maps and compass. Boy this is a game changer for me ! What a great little gps! Just got back from a 26.7 (to be exact because I tracked the whole trail) mile back packing trip and I was able to share my location with my fam back home no problem.

Early review after 2 uses of 8 hours. Be aware that you must purchase an account package to use this device, which may well end up costing much more than the device itself.
