The Asus VG248QE is THE best gaming monitor for the price due to its affordability, features, and build quality. This monitor is, in my opinion, the perfect size to meet the needs of someone who plays multiple genres of games. I play a MOBA, an MMORPG, and various other titles of different genres off and on and the monitor is the perfect size for all of the gaming that I do. The screen itself is incredibly sharp and offers great viewing from most angles. As is the case with TN panels, you really need to be sitting in front of the monitor for the best experience. If your situation differs, you need to consider paying up for an IPS panel - the cost is significantly higher but viewing angle problems will no longer be present. As a side note... to confirm my theory that this monitor is the perfect gaming monitor at the right size, I have seen it all over professional gaming events on Twitch. The 144hz difference, in my opinion, was incredible and well worth the cost over a traditional PC monitor. You will notice from the moment you set the refresh rate in Windows that your mouse moves more smoothly like butter and you gain so many more frames of vision that you were losing before! One thing that is not explained well out of the box is that you must use the included dual-link DVI cable to achieve the maximum refresh rate of 144hz and a setting in Windows needs to be set as it will default to 30hz or 60hz. I cant recommend this monitor enough to all PC gamers requiring quick reaction times (any game online). Note: I performed independent research and asked gamer friends for their advice before purchasing and was not provided a review copy. I have no involvement with Asus though I am very impressed with them now.

Since I dont buy games for $60 when they are released (I wait until they come down to a reasonable price on Steam), I dont have any current gen games. Therefore, most of my [older gen] games at max settings run above 60 fps on my gaming rig, putting this monitors high refresh rate to good use. I must have poor vision or something, because I do not have any complaints about the color that everyone seems to be going on and on about. I own several monitors of different panel types (IPS, VA, TN) and this one does not seem to be significantly inferior to any of them. But then again, I am an audiophile rather than somebody who knows much about color. PROS: I dont need to repeat what others have written. You may want to read this article about refresh rate before purchasing: maximumpc.com/refresh_rate_2013. You can probably trick yourself into thinking that 144Hz actually makes a difference (much like a placebo effect). CONS: [1] the speakers. ASUS should have just not bothered. They can make a nasty whine depending on what is onscreen, so youd better plan on using headphones or some other alternative to the speakers. [2] cable length. The money that ASUS spent on adding the speakers should have been put towards longer ones (both the DVI cable and the power cord were so short that I had to change my desk setup to accommodate them). Obviously these are not cons that are enough to knock a star off the total score for the monitor, as you can simply buy a longer cable and not use the speakers. Clean install of Windows 10 w/ an EVGA 2080TI had random display freezing issues. The exact same system ran w/o issues on 3 BenQ monitors. Upgrading to Windows 11 did not address the issue. These ASUS displays (3 of them) would appear frozen but the Windows Event log would show that the computer was running just fine. I tried swapping out the graphic card, DP cables (bought thicker gauges, shorter lengths, w/ propper pinning), lowered refresh rates, and did the whole dance of making sure the latest chipset/graphics card/etc. drivers were installed. After a few weeks of trying different things, disabling G-Sync cured the issue. Not sure if it is because there is no driver for the display, I have too many connected (3), or what. It is disappointing, but at a 165hz refresh rate, I dont know if disabling G-Sync will matter. Also, these monitors seem to take a slightly longer time to wake from sleep compared to my other 3-monitor setup using BenQ monitors. Which could also be a difference. The control scheme on the back of the monitor is not ideal for multiple monitor setups. Controls that run along the bottom edge or along the front bezel are preferred. The controls on this monitor are on the right back side which makes the middle and left monitor in a 3-head setup, hard to get to. After initial setup, it wont matter much unless you are the kind of person who actually swaps monitor modes based on what you are doing. Other than that, the monitors seem great. High refresh rates (165hz), color scheme, etc.

The refurb arrived on time and in great condition. The actual monitor had no physical damage and there were only a couple small scuffs around the base of the stand. There were no dead pixels and the monitor itself is actually stunning for an older display. It handles 3D (thank you 3D fix manager) really well with the nvidia 3d vision kit. Besides that it is a very snappy responsive display for gaming though the colors arent the most accurate. Its a very bright and colorful display but it tends to bloom dark colors even though its blacks are actually stunning. The only other gripe is the viewing angles are pretty rough but looking dead on its great

I dont really understand the complaints about the color with this monitor. It was the one thing that kept me from purchasing it and I was pleasantly surprised to find that people are generally wrong as the gamut volume is about 93% sRGB accurate. With a proper ICC color profile with Display Profile and some monitor OSD tweaking, the color on this monitor is way more than adequate for gaming and movies. Its actually very pleasing. The best looking IPS panels will be 100% sRGB and near 100% Adobe RGB but also be pretty awful for gaming. TN panels are now approaching 100% sRGB (the best Ive found was 97%) and maintain their fast refresh and response rates. Keep in mind that for a good TN gaming monitor you will be spending $200 and it will be 60Hz. For just $50-70 more you can get 120Hz and 3D. Asus also has a great RMA policy on this monitor and my last Asus monitor is 5 years old and still chugging. Never blinked. That said, 120Hz is just okay. It isnt a game changing experience for me. I forget about it in the mix of action. The first time I experienced it, it was definitely noticeable but within the next 10 minutes it was indistinguishable unless I focused on the smoothness. Its nice to have but not game changing. I havent tried 3D and Im sure I will find that to be a gimmick. Some of the reviews of 3D gaming have me intrigued but Im not looking to drop another $60 just to try it. Just a very solid monitor, overall. No real flaws or areas where you wish it were better. Some OSD tweaks would be nice but not a big deal. Being able to save profiles would be nice. The stand is very solid and I had forgotten how nice it was to have the ability to raise it to proper eye level. The cable management is fairly poor mostly because of where the cables plug into the monitor itself. I use DVI and the red cable management clip on the back routes the cable right into eye view under the panel. Thats annoying. I ordered and DisplayPort cable to see if that helps. Also stays very cool. I feel no actual heat coming off the top of this monitor with my brightness being 24. It seems to sip power and give off very little heat in return - keeping in mind it is winter and under 70F in my place. If you are worried about color, dont be. If you are coming from IPS you wont miss much and with gaming in mind, you will benefit more than you lose.

The first time I discovered this product is when I was looking for monitors on amazon. I bought this monitor for the purpose to complete my computer setup. the specs of the monitor are it being 24 inches wide, 1920x1080p, and 144Hz. Strengths about this monitor are that it is 1080p, it has a refresh rate of 144hz, it has a 1ms response time, and it also has a cross hair in the middle of the screen for fps games. One thing that i love about this monitor is that is has a spot to hand your headphones comfortably behind the monitor and has cable organizers running down the back of the monitor. Weaknesses that I have to point out about the monitor is that it doesnt have the best eye support technology for long game sessions so it will strain your eyes over a period of time. Another weakness about this monitor is that it doesnt have the best speakers as they can muffle sometimes depending on what is playing through them. One more weakness about this monitor is that the panel used for the monitor isnt the best when faced in direct sunlight as it is hard to see the screen because of the glare. My final thought about this monitor is that it is a good product and I am satisfied with my purchase.

Great budget monitor, I cant BELIEVE the difference this made. Just 2 problems Ive found; My Displayport, which is what u want to use to get the 144hz out of your GPU, was showing no signal, I would plug in to HDMI and it worked fine, I figured it was the my DP cable so I bought a new one. The new cable did not fix the problem, I thought it was the GPU, unplugged and went to onboard DP port, still no signal. So now Im thinking its the port on the monitor!! In a last ditch effort before contacting ASUS product support, I unplugged the power cable and held the power button down for 15sec, I plugged it back in and turned it on on the DP source and lo and BEHOLD its ALIVE! Take note of that process if youre contemplating a purchasing this item. Second, I play games on both PC and console, the PC looks flawless in HD no matter what frequency I run at (60,120,144hz), my PS4 on the other other hand, looks great but I can see red specs or red pixels floating around. I dont know what the deal is with that, but it doesnt do it on my other HD monitor (an older ALIENWARE). If youre buying this SOLELY to console game dont, If youre buying it to get more out of your GPU on PC its GREAT! I suggest upgrading the monitor before upgrading the GPU.

This is my 3rd ASUS monitor. The first two were purchased years ago for a dual screen setup. This was my first experience with a 144hz monitor (the previous monitors were only 60hz) and all I can say is What a difference! Games were fantastic with my GPU set to 144hz refresh rate. Fast scrolling through webpages looks like Im literally moving a long piece of paper. The page isnt choppy at all. I wish I would have had the funds to go 1 step further and get the 4k monitor from ASUS. The stand is great. Easy height adjustment with just slight pressure up or down. Plenty of tilt and rotation as well as being able to rotate the monitor vertically 90 degress which would be great for coding. It seems quite stable as monitors go as well.If you get any wobble from typing/gaming its probably due to the quality of the desk it sits on and not the stand. Mine doesnt move even a little on my desk. If it matters, the buttons are on the bottom (my previous ASUS monitors were this way as well). The big difference with these buttons is that the power button is more protruded than the others (both the buttons on this monitor and the buttons previously used by ASUS) and it lights up which combined makes it easy to locate by both feel and sight. Switching between view settings is easy. It comes with pre-set views optimized for different uses. Or you can customize it to whatever you would like. If you dont have your heart set on 4k or the AMD/Nvidia plugins, you will not go wrong with this monitor. Its a great buy and I highly recommend ASUS monitors for their price/performance.

I order two of these monitors and I am more than satisfied. If youre in the market for a good 1080p monitor for gaming this is it, especially FPS games. That is assuming you have a video card setup than can make use of the 144Hz refresh rate. Even for fast paced action movies these monitors are great as your image stays clear even in the fastest of action scenes. I really noticed a huge difference in BF3 game play but like most people say not so much with non-FPS games. Sure its better for everything but not as noticeable out side of an FPS gaming. I read a lot of reviews on this monitor before my purchase and there were a lot of complaints about the colors being horrible. Well, they look just fine to me, maybe not the best but accurate enough at the very least if youre not OCD about it. I have mine set in Standard Mode, TraceFree 80, Color Temp Normal, and dropped the brightness to 80 and see zero problems with my colors. Theyre better than my previous monitors and far better than a lot of other monitors I have seen in my day. Something to note though, if you do not have a video card with two DVI connectors like myself, remember to buy the appropriate DisplayPort cable so you can run multiple monitors at 144Hz. It will not run at 144Hz off of an HDMI connection. You need to run it off of DVI with the supplied Dual Link DVI cables or buy DisplayPort cables separately for 144Hz. Couldnt be happier with my purchase as these monitors have a great feature set and require just a few minutes of browsing through the settings to tweak things to your liking. :)

I bought 4 of these monitors as I just may have a small gaming addiction. Although better than having a crack addiction, my choice led me here for a monitor with a better frequency which in turn gives better refresh. All in all, I do not regret one thing except that I had to pay for them. I used 4 of these, in pairs vertically to frame a 30 Dell I had previously. I set my old Samsung displays which, neither were Vesa compliant, on other PCs in the home giving them major upgrades and then used these. I mainly game 5 or 6 different games at the same time and needed more space. I do however love the joy of being able to do research having word open, multiple webpages and documents and maybe a program or two without flipping through. Very productive. Pros: 1. They are pretty darned fast with no flaws that I have found, dead pixel or image projection. 2. Although they came in with some settings that were quite bright, another reviewer gave the link to a preset profile which was super easy to upload and bring them to a more manageable appearance. Worth the little extra effort, the profile works for all as they are simply the same display. You may need to tweak it, nothing is made exactly the same and you may simply not like the way it looks. It is called preference. 3. I have triple SLI Nvidia gtx680s. The ability to use the displayport on these screens was a big plus. Displayport will be the standard as they will shift vga, dvi-x out at some point for the sheer performance. DVI was used on one as I only had three ports and that works great as well. The displayport interfaced displays were jacked up to 144 mhz but I have to tell you that I am unsure I personally see the massive difference. Maybe I do not play the right games, but Crysis 2 looks sweet 4. Although I didnt use them, the base looked real nice. This is one place that some displays really skimp you. Not much more for me to tell as I did not implement them. 5. Cable management was a nice little touch. I still cable tied everything down the back side but they do provide a way to route the cables in a clean manner. Cons 1. Minor, very minor. Since the buttons were on the bottom, I needed to leave some room to have the ability to turn them off if needed. Do I? Almost never and that is only because of the stand and placement I used. Not pulling a star for that. I would buy them again but I sure hope I dont feel the need to :) Update 09/112019: Still going strong and not one issue after all these years. A couple small notes: - Asus as a brand has lost all my respect because of the lack of quality their overall company brings out in products today including my new graphics cards, but these displays held up great with 0 display issues. - In regards to the graphics cards, I have 2 Asus Strix GTX1070s and both have lost one display port now. One lasted a month and needed warranty replacement for a firmware lockup and the new one came only to lose one of the two display ports like the other. This is a trend. I do not believe the display is an issue because i can switch to the working display port on the same card with no issue and the other that went out was to one of the other screens. - Sound. Not sure why it likes to do this, but every single time I update my graphics driver it latches the sound driver as default. Weird, I didnt tell it to but Nvidia seems to think my main sound needs to come out through one of my displays. Multiple ways you can stop this. - When loading the graphics driver, always click advanced setup and choose clean install, graphics driver and physics driver only. Skip the sound driver all the way and it will never mess with default sound. - Go into sound properties and delete the sound devices pertaining to the display. Drives me nuts. Displays themselves still rock and even with the Asus name I would consider buying them again. Really, REALLY hard to beat a Samsung display but these have worked real well for me.
