> 3 dayI purchased three of these monitors for a Surround setup, currently in portrait. The included base is intuitive and stylish, allowing one to rotate from landscape to portrait by simply turning it. I originally had the three of them mounted onto a frame and displayed in landscape mode, but the ultra-wide 5780x1080 resolution was a bit jarring and far too unsupported. Presently, theyre all set up in bezel-corrected 3950x1920, and its quite the theatrical experience. Everything I play now is HUGE, equivalent to a 44 inch TV with 6 million pixels. The bezels are reasonably thick, but for the amount of screen area you get, arent too bad. Keep in mind that running three of these in 144Hz mode requires at least one of them to be run through DisplayPort for it to function properly. The 1ms response times and refresh rates are definitely noticeable and desirable over other panels, but the crowning feature of this monitor and other 144hz models are the LightBoost support. Check it out, as itll change everything. Im removing a star for the color reproduction of this monitor. Its a TN panel, so the colors tend to be overly bright and washed out. Turning on LightBoost and strobing makes everything dimmer but much easier on the eyes. Ive got the strobing feature turned on across all three panels. Still, I cant help but feel that the colors seem slightly off from what Im used to. Its taken quite a bit of work to get to a setting that I can universally enjoy. I purchased this particular monitor over the BENQ model in anticipation for Nvidias G-SYNC technology. If that releases as a do-it-yourself module, Ill update this review with my impressions of that technology.

> 3 dayThis is probably one of THE most popular gaming monitors right now, as it has been referenced time and time again on the PC forums. This is the monitor to go with if you are after certain expectations, with little (fixable) drawbacks that you need to worry with. BUY IF: If you want to step up your gaming beyond 60 FPS Your needs support 1080p vs 1440p vs 4k Your space supports 24 > monitor size only You want to dabble with 3D Gaming now or later Skip IF: Your GPU Can not processes > 60 FPS Your wanting to go into 1440P or 4k gaming soon You NEVER have the intentions of using Nvidia 3D You use AMD GPUs. Currently, I am running three of these monitors with Nvidia surround technology loaded, as well as Nvidia 3D running on certain games. By itself, this monitor is simply superb, I even attached my xbox one to it and found it more enjoyable to game on versus my 47 or 60 TVs (personal preference perhaps). The trick about this monitor that you must accept is, if you plan to use it at 144hz, you need to know that your GPU can handle the frame rates required. It takes a lot of horse power to get up in frame rates on some of the newer AAA titles like Call of Duty Black ops III (horrible optimization at the moment), Witcher 3, Just Cause 3, SW Battlefront, etc. If your GPU is running an Nvidia 970 or < you will be fine. If you are planning to push 120fps with a 960, or anything lower than this, you will have to turn down a bit of settings to make it happen (no AA, dynamic shadows, god rays, etc). My setup - i7 4790k Devils Canyon (OCd 4.7ghz 24/7) (Liquid cooled) SLI (dual) GTX 970 (OCd to 1550 / 8100 @ 1.275V) Asus Hero VII Maximus MOBO Results in all games maxed out with greater than 120 fps on a single display. In Surround. . . Black Ops III ~ 110 fps with all settings on Medium to high Witcher 3 ~ 60 fps on High preset (extremely demanding) Battlefield 4 ~ 120 fps locked all settings ultra Diablo 3 ~ 120 FPS locked max settings The downsides mentioned. . . Thick bezels. but you know this going in - there are plenty of thinner options out there, but none at this price point with this feature set. Horrid color calibration out of the box - youll need a new color profile ASAP. I used the x-rite ColorMunki calibration tool and sunk all 3 monitors in order to match profiles. AFTER this, the monitors look EXCELLENT and are able to match printed colors.

Greater than one weekOk first of all I only got this monitor because it had a 120+ refresh rate and was affordable after the first fact. It definitely has a refresh rate of 120+ but the problem is, if your processor and graphics card do not support higher resolutions and higher refresh rate, then this monitor wont matter. BE SURE YOU CHANGE THE SETTINGS TO 144 refresh rate in Monitor settings. If you dont, it wont do it automatically. So once you buy it and it doesnt go higher than 60 its set to do less. So next if your computer does support higher refresh rate processor and graphics card then it should be fine but if you are like me who wants to SEE this refresh rate and never EVER want to SEE any lag? Then I would suggest buying this as a backup plan. Buy a monitor like a BenQ or something if you dont want to be slightly -even a hairs difference- disapointed. This monitor supports high refresh rate but I still see lag every other few seconds on games like Sims and Guild Wars 2. But my First Person Shooters are golden on this monitor its just games that have sudden bursts of activity like World versus world on guild wars that I see slight bouts of lag. This is NOT completely a monitor issue, it may also be the processor moving slowly because I stopped overclocking for a slight moment to reduce energy. You never know. But this monitor is absolutely awesome in a nutshell. You can adjust it any time you wish, and people think this is a problem to keep adjusting. I love it. Sometimes Im leaning and sometimes I sit straight. My monitor adjusts to my fit from left to right high and low. Lastly, the best part about this monitor is the refresh rate, and if you are a hard-core gamer its a great start. If you have the money then go all out, if not then this monitor is way better than you will ever find for the specs and low price.

> 3 dayIll give you the scoop on this monitor. The monitor physically is built well. adjusting the height and orientation is so smooth. you got pretty much all the inputs you need. So you get this monitor, open it up, hook it up (please use a Displayport cable first choice, otherwise you can use the dvi cable it comes with but i used a displayport cable). You turn on the monitor and right off the bad your gonna notice some of the biggest flaws of this monitor. The colors are washed out, dull, contrast ratio isnt great either. At this point your gonna wanna do 2 things, make sure you enable and set your monitor to 144hz in Windows 10/gfx settings. the 2nd thing you want to do is adjust the colors and brightness/contrast. This is the most frustrating things about this monitor. It feels like a constant push and pull contest between you and the monitor for getting colors just right. and to my experience I never have got them the way I like it consistently. every day i feel like i am tweaking settings. Especially if I am playing games and then going back to everyday use. its like the color profiles get all screwy. i find this to be the biggest headache with this monitor. Your not gonna be happy with everyday monitor use out of this thing. BUT....... with gaming, i think this monitor is pretty good.the color issues you dont really notice as much in gaming. you get the super fast refresh rates and gaming from 60hz to 144hz monitor is such a treat. No ghosting, and response rate is super fast. i think this is where this monitor shines... its super fast for those competitive gamers. This leads me to my conclusions about this monitor. If you are only going to be buying this for gaming, go for it. however if you are looking to use this to do anything else, like browse the internet or watch movies or work in photoshop or write code... man its really disappointing monitor for that. the colors and white and black levels are just so poor and color reproduction is mehh... this monitor has 1 purpose only and thats gaming... its great for gaming, horrible for anything else. Luckily for me i have a nice dell ultrasharp UDH for my everyday use, and its amazing for movies, browsing, photoshop and coding (things i do alot of). So my ASUS VG248QE is only being used for gaming. But i was honestly disappointed with this monitor on how bad it was for non gaming use. i am really considering returning this and trying out some newer 144hz monitors and try out a VA or a IPS panel and see how it compares. PROS: - sturdy - easy ajustments - 144hz 1ms response - great for competitive gaming CONS: - horrible quality for non gaming use - out of box colors are terrible - adjusting colors/brightness/contrast is a continuous struggle - viewing angles are not great even for a TN panel - bad for non-gaming use

Greater than one weekBought this to upgrade my monitors to 144hz turns out that you need to use the DVI ports to get this and not the HDMI. Its just advertised as a 144hz product description should mention that only the DVI ports get 144hz

> 3 dayThis is based off using this for 2D Gaming. I wont be using this monitor for 3D gaming because I think its terrible. Pros: +144hz eliminates almost all motion blur in games. If you have the computer power to push them higher frames. +60hz vs 144hz is night and day. +Anti Glare Coating is super nice. Not grainy looking at all and keeps glares at bay. + I havent noticed any input lag at all in various games. +Price is right for this tech +I love the adjustable stand +Asus OSD is easy to navigate with good options to calibrate +Very easy to fine tune using Spyder 4 elite Negatives: - Very poor luminance uniformity. Spyder 4 showed 35% difference on upper left sector. - All 4 Asus monitors purchased in last 2 months all had stuck pixels. (Three pb278q returned with zero problems because Amazon is the best in the business) -Minor backlight bleed -Worst colors out of box I have ever seen. Spyder 4 elite made this look half way decent. -TN Panel, so poor colors compared to newer IPS/PLS Panels. Most these problems point to quality control IMO. UPDATE 1/26/2013: All TN panels look bad to me after buying a Asus pb278q which is a pls panel with amazing colors, so I am probably being a bit harsh when I say the colors are bad. But 60hz is just too slow for fast gaming. Where this panel really shines is first person shooters, barely any motion blur. 144fps in Battlefield 3 has helped my aim so much its not even funny. After playing at higher refresh rate, I cannot play on 60hz anymore, it looks terrible. Im raising this one star to 4/5 after gaming on it hardcore for last 24hrs. Would be 5/5 if not for the poor uniformity and stuck pixel. This panel will have to do tell the big companies make a 120hz IPS/PLS or Oled monitor but we wont see that in the near future because you would need so much graphic power to run 1440p at 120hz and get acceptable frames. My EVGA 690 cant even max out all eye candy in games like Farcy 3, Metro 2033, etc... and keep 120+fps constant on this vg248qe 1080p monitor.

> 3 dayNote: My old monitor was a 24inch Samsung widscreen monitor with a 3000:1 contrast ratio. This is an absolute beautiful monitor! The colors are vibrant and everything looks so smooth and crisp. The first time I plugged it in I just started at my desktop background for a couple minutes, and then started browsing pictures on the internet. It was truly a whole new experience. My friend came over a couple days after I had installed it, and he was blown away too. Games, internet, movies, photos, all look amazing. Youre going to see a lot more detail that you missed before, even if you had a similar sized monitor. The 144hrz of the monitor means 144fps, compared with the conventional 60-75 hrz (60-75 fps). If you play the latest games, and are a huge gamer, you probably wont be able to notice a difference in framerate, since the target fps is around 40-60 with your video card. But if you play older games that support higher frame rates, or you play games at lower quality to get 100~ fps, then this will be a huge jump. MAKE SURE TO SET YOUR DISPLAY OPTIONS TO 144HRZ TO EXPERIENCE IT PROPERLY! One thing to note when handling the monitor: When tilting it 90 degrees, from landscape to portrait, If its too low you can scratch the pristine base. Make sure to lift up the monitor as high as possible before rotating it. I scratched mine sadly. :( If you want to do 3D, you are going to have to buy special Nvidia 3D glasses and youll need an Nvidia compatible video card. The glasses are around $50-$100, and the card could go well above $200. I already have the card, and I hope to buy the glasses soon.

> 3 dayI scored this monitor on sale for $219.99 and WOW, what a great deal! If youre in the market for an affordable entry into the gaming monitor market, this is your ticket. Out of the box, the monitor leaves a little something to be desired, but with a little bit of my time, I was able to realize the full potential of this display by loading the monitors driver (from the included CD), an ICC color profile, and adjusting a few of the OSD settings. Just Google VG248QE Calibration for full details on how to do this. (NOTE: Its absolutely CRUCIAL that you check the Use Windows Display Calibration box in advanced settings when adding the ICC profile. This is what made the night-and-day difference for me): PROS: -144hz Refresh Rate (must use the provided Dual Link DVI cable and enable in Windows/your OS of choice) - Say goodbye to screen tearing in your games. Youll be able to see the difference immediately, right from your desktop. Window animations and transitions and scrolling through web pages is a silky smooth experience. Games look fantastic with zero screen tearing. -1ms Response Time - Its hard to find monitors with 1ms or the 144hz in this price range. I did not see any noticeable ghosting while playing games. -Highly adjustable base/stand - The stand on this thing is sturdy and allows you to adjust the height, tilt, and even rotate the display to portrait mode if thats your thing. The base also has a wheel type mechanism allowing you to easily swivel the monitor without scratching your desk. Theres a cable management tab on the back to help keep the ugly cables out of the way, and putting it together was simple with the thoughtful toolless screw on the base. -No dead pixels or noticeable light bleed - My unit did not have any dead pixels or noticeable light bleed. I always get some anxiety when buying a new monitor from this point alone, so it was nice to not have these issues. -3 Year ASUS Warranty - Havent had to take advantage of this yet, but its reassuring to know that ASUS stands behind their products Nice Bonus Features: -Nvidia 3D support - If you buy the glasses youll be able to use this feature in 3D supported games (3D movies do NOT work from what I understand). Havent been able to try it out myself, but may give it a go at some point. -Nvidia LightBoost - With a little time and extra software ([...]) you can trick this monitor into using the strobe effect used by Nvidia LightBoost (otherwise only used with the 3D feature out of the box) to give your monitor a CRT-like quality and completely eliminate any motion blur. Havent tried this myself yet, but sounds like an interesting feature to have for anyone into competitive multiplayer gaming or even just firing up some old emulated games. CONS: -TN Panel - This is pretty standard for gaming monitors to achieve the 144hz response, 1ms refresh, so its understandable. You can definitely notice with the viewing angles, but its really not as bad as some make it out to be. After calibrating the monitor, this pretty much became a non issue. -Glossy black finish/3D logo - Minor nit picking, but the monitor is almost definitely going to show dust and scratches. The giant 3D logo is printed on the base, so cant remove it, and overall kind of detracts from the otherwise good looking design.

> 3 dayFor those of you that wanted a 144 Hz/1ms delay monitor for a good price, this monitor does the job. Please keep in mind that out of the box it does not come with a display port/DVI-dual link cable, so you will need to buy those as well if you want to reach 144 refresh rate. As other reviews said the monitor does have washed out colors, I used the settings below (courtesy of Reddit) which helped it a lot. Settings: -Theater mode -Contrast = 83 -Saturation = 42 -Color temp = user mode with all three set to 83 -Skin tone = natural -Sharpness = 50 -Trace Free = 40 -ASCR = On Getting 144 Hz on Windows 10: Also note the monitor will default to 60 Hz out of the box, even with a new cable. To change this on Windows 10 (with creators update) go to display settings, click display adapter properties, and then click the monitor tab and select the refresh rate you want. (if you have more than 1 monitor make sure to have the right one selected before trying to change the settings). Overall, for the price, its a good monitor, arrived quickly and in good condition. Will probably buy a second one to replace my other monitor, Overwatch looks great on it.
