This monitor is marked as a Gaming Monitor in the market. The gaming features which attract my attention are 144hz and short response time. I put this VG248QE sit next to my 2-yrs old Dell U3011. As you know, Dell U3011 is a great monitor, but it may not be a typical gaming monitor. As a part-time gamer, I want to have a monitor for my PC games. The 144hz and short response time did play their roles in game BF3 during the test. In fact, comparing to the performance in U3011 (2560x1600 ultra), I did like the FPS performance (action part) in VG248QE (1920x1080 ultra) better. However, I felt like I missed something. Even though the action of BF3 performed better in VG248QE than in U3011, I didnt like it. I didnt like this gaming monitor. Why? Because the color didnt look right at all! Yes, the factory color setting in VG248QE is horrible. I dont know whether ASUS make this way on purpose, maybe they think gamers are free to adjust it by themselves. I personally think as such a big company, ASUS should be easy to do the color calibration for their monitors. But apparently, ASUS dont. Then I did some search online. As a result, I came out four color profiles. Two came from pcmonitor.info, one from user in Newegg, and last one from the other forum (sorry, forget the name). One of the profiles that came from pcmonitor.info suggested the ICC profile file (.icm), I downloaded it too. There was one more .icm color profile file recommended by the user in Newegg, I also downloaded it. For U3011, its color profile has been done once it is plugged in to PC. I dont which one does it, Win7 or Nvidia Driver. Then I started my testing. Since two monitor sit next to each other, I could easily do the comparison. ... ... Let me skip the testing process and jump to the result. As a result, I was disappointed with this gaming monitor, seriously, I couldnt make myself like it due to the color. One of these four color profiles is described to have the most accurate colors, but my eyes dont feel it. One of the .icm file comes from ICC standard, but my eyes dont like it neither. Maybe my eyes are wrong or maybe I dont feel the colors correctly. What I can tell is the color performance in U3011 is way way better than VG248QE. I think the monitor size doesnt matter with the display of colors. Thus these two high-end monitors should have similar color performance. However, whichever color profile was applied, my eyes always liked the display in U3011 better, much better. The display in VG248QE was either too cold, too warm, too dark, or too bright. The mointor just couldnt make it balanced in WOW, BF3, and Skyrim, or even in browsers and PDFss. Now for PS3. Both of two monitors have HDMI, so I connected them with my PS3. I played Dark Soul and blu-ray 007. Only the profile (Google the pcmointor.info, the profile they use for testing) was acceptable for my eyes. But this profile displayed too warm and dark when I played Dark Soul and Uncharted 2. The most serious thing is ... ... A week later, On the screen, the area is about 1 inch above the monitor bottom edge, two dead pixels appeared. As a gamer, high HZ and short response time are important. But I personally will choose color over them. I mean color must be comfortable first, then I care about rate and response time. I definitely will NOT choose a monitor whose color display I am not comfortable with, even it has higher rate and shorter response time. In conclusion, if you were the person like me, this monitor might NOT fit for you. Otherwise, you can think about this unit, but I dont recommend. ========== Other thoughts ============ The resolution! I am not sure about other gamers. I like playing PC games, so I always pickup some good video cards, like GTX 590 (I am using now). I mean it may be common to have own a high-end video card among the gamers. Then the resolution with current gaming monitors is too low. All the gaming monitors have high rate and short response time, but low resolution (1920x1080). I personally think high-end video card should apply for high resolution monitor (2560x1440 27, 2560x1600 30). Even though you may not get the features which those gaming monitors declare, high-resolution monitor will definitely give you a more visually-comfortable game world. ========== Few Last words ============ The color calibration or management is the basic for a monitor. The gaming monitor should be a type of high-end monitor. But if the monitor cannot make the color look right, it is even NOT a good monitor.

I like it. For the price that I got it at, I really, really like it. Ive read on a lot of reviews that people dont like the finish and how it attracts dust, I personally dont mind. When I got it I thought, wow people complain so much about such a small detail. But if it matters that much to you then, I dont know then, maybe a different monitor to avoid getting annoyed by the dust it collects? It honestly doesnt collect dust that much if you dust weekly (and my pc set up is in my bedroom so a blanket + carpet flooring by comparison) For the colors that people complain about, I just went into the monitor settings and adjusted the screen color and contrast to the way I find comfortable for my eyes. I did find that the default setting when you first get it did bother my eyes a little bit. If you work with photo shop or other applications and need precise color display then I wouldnt recommend this monitor, it was specifically for gaming for me. I dont have any complaints about the monitor, other than its a bit too big for my desk set up, but I have another monitor so thats my problem. My first 144 Hz monitor, the change in experience is pretty great. Changed my life forever. Im a college student so for this upgrade I felt it was a good deal (I had wanted a pure black monitor to match the pc color scheme and the other ones in the market didnt fall in that criteria) A month into having this monitor, thats pretty much all I have to say I think; will update if I have problems later.

****** IMPORTANT ****** Before I start - As everyone has said on these reviews before, the colors look very pale and washed out once you get the monitor. I highly recommend that you Google or go on YouTube and search for this specific video ASUS VG248QE Color Settings / ICC Profile (and discussing lightboost). The uploaders name is Static Sleet and the video was uploaded in October 2015. There are other websites that teach you how and some Reddit threads that do the same, but this video is extremely straightforward on what you should do as soon as you get your monitor out of the box. Now, I was very hesitant in getting this monitor because Im a pretty cautious consumer and read all the one star reviews. I was so afraid of being one of the dead / stuck pixel receivers, but whew! Everything is perfect. I just upgraded from a 20 inch, 60hz, and not a 1ms response time monitor and the difference is staggering. I have this new one and my old one set up side by side and its like night and day. This monitor is much more bright, vibrant, and crisp than the blurry and dull image I see on the old monitor. The box was well packaged and the monitor very secure, and there are no scratches or any parts bent / out of place. Sure, its not one of the more expensive 1440p models that boast G-Sync and yada yada, but if youre on a budget constraint that allows you only to get monitors around 300-400$, this is a steal. So, if youre like me, stop looking at the $600 - $1000+ monitors and narrow them down to two models - this ASUS VG248QE or its 27 counterpart, or the BenQ Zowie XL2411Z that is probably the other one youve been looking at. As you can see through the comments and other sites that pit these two versus each other, ASUS blows BenQ out of the park when it comes to picture QUALITY (color, vibrance, etc). The BenQ is claimed to be more efficient however in games because it stays true and strong in those parts of FPS shooters like CS:GO where youre turning around corners and shooting people very quickly. As a FPS fanatic, I can tell you that it is not noticeable at all. It was a no brainer for me to choose the ASUS model after looking at the video I just mentioned because a little efficiency is not worth sacrificing an amazing picture for. Unless youre some world champ shooter that somehow notices this little difference when youre turning around corners, youre not going to notice any difference in those terms at all. The BenQ colors are just terrible. I wouldnt want to play video games to be better if Im not going to like what Im looking at, and you probably dont want that either. Also, one thing I was debating on before getting this model was whether or not I should get the 27. My 20 is so tiny and I was so sick of it, so I thought - the bigger the better. However, I looked up Is a 27 monitor and 1080p worth it and the results werent that great. Many said that you would notice a loss of quality almost immediately unless your computer is extremely far away from you and to the back of the desk, but that wasnt me because my monitor is sitting only an arms length away. I also read on Reddit from people with 27 models that it was simply too big for them and they actually got worse at high speed video games because their eyes couldnt keep up with everything that was going on in the corners and sides of the screen. So, following that advice, I got the 24 because the quality would seemingly be at perfect balance and not stretched out onto a 27 screen and because I didnt want the problem of not being able to see everything happening if Im playing a fast-paced video game. Im very glad that I listened to them! Im actually having trouble sometimes keeping up with this screen too because its also very big when an arms length away. If I had a 27, it would be great for watching some movies far away but.. not at all for games unless you have additional eyes beside your ears. An added bonus with this is that youll be saving 50$ too (by not getting the bigger model)! Overall, I think you should get this VG248QE if your budget falls around here and youre looking for an entry-level 144hz, 1ms, 1080p monitor. Yes, there are lots of one star reviews because of misplaced pixels, but I can tell you after hours of searching for monitors before I got this one that there is only ONE monitor I found with only 4-5 star reviews - and it cost 2300$ and only like two or three people actually reviewed it.. Every monitor you come by will have problems from consumers such as dead pixels, power failures, the monitor simply dying, buttons falling off, etc. The VG248QE will have a lot more of these simply because of the sheer amount of people that have bought this over the years. When youre producing a lot of these monitors, obviously some are bound to fail. but this model, as you can tell, is always holding strong near 80% five star reviews - which is a lot higher than other monitors that I have seen on Amazon. Just pray that youre not in the 20% and buy it. Dont press your back button and go to the BenQ. Just get it!! Oh, and a lot of people seem to not be getting DVI-D cables with their orders so I read those reviews and got the gold plated, ferrite, DVI-D cable that is under the products frequently bought with this because I thought I wouldnt be getting one. Well, I did get one with the monitor. So, take that with a grain of salt; you may or may not get one.

Good screen size but behaves funny when the laptop screen is up. It automatically changes resolution to the max stated. If laptop screen is down then resolution is max 1980x1200

Update!... Avoid! The 1 button toggle on this not only makes customizing and using the menu a complete and total pain. That single button also breaks really easy.. Whoever thought of a 1 button toggle switch should be fired.. I figure this. If a monitor has a menu. there should be a button for that, then and up and down to navigate it. and to select the setting you want. There should be a button for that.... Oh and if it has more than 1 display port.. There should be a button for each.. How much did Asus save? 0.20-0.30c... I have terrible vision to begin with so dont exactly listen to me... My main complaint is that 1 button toggle. Annoying!!!! I mean, if theres 2 hdmi ports for 2 different computers/set ups.. Why cant we have 2 buttons 1 button for hdmi 1, and another button for hdmi 2... would make it way easier than having to learn and navigate a 1 button toggle menu.. I have 2 pcs. One for my daily driver, 1 for video editing and other loads.. I like to set me editing computer and switch back to the daily driver, then randomly check in on the progress.. I should have a button to just switch between without having to navigate a menu Come on asus. buttons cost what 1/10th of a penny... As for the display.. Its ok. Like I said. my eyes suck anyways.. So everything I look at sucks.. Check other reviews if you want display and picture quality.. Im not the person to really say anything about that

The only downside I can really say about them, is that it is very hard to get them to match up even after calibrating. Comparing them side to side after calibration, there seems to be slight color issues, and one screen seems slightly warmer, while the other slightly cooler- this is normal even with 2 of the same monitors due to manufacturing differences. Calibrating any monitor is going to be necessary, and these are no different. Right out of the box, the monitors are good almost as is, and very little calibration is needed for anyone just wanting to use it for general computer work. For gaming however, take the time to learn how to properly calibrate the monitors for the best gaming experience. If you currently have a smaller desk, these monitors might take up a lot of desk space with their default stands, and upgrading to a better stand might be the solution. I used the monitors for over a year with their included stands, before finally purchasing a third-party VIVO dual monitor stacking stand (look for my review on it). Overall the default stands are nice, sturdy, and allow for good adjustment, but for someone like me who needs dual monitors, consider upgrading the stand later on to fit your needs.

Definitely the best monitor I have ever used. I would say this is tied with my mouse (deathadder 2013, huge upgrade from my s***ty stock mouse) as the best upgrade Ive gotten for my gaming setup so far. Even moving the cursor from this to my 60hz display on the side of it you can see noticable mouse lag. The 1ms input lag for this display, in addition to the 120hz and lightboost (greatest thing ever, incredibly clear movement) there is almost no lag at all in what youre seeing. I play competitive tf2 in the esea, and I can pretty safely say this has let me improve a lot. Though I was decently good before I got this, I feel like I have a MUCH better visability and grasp of movement/aiming with this. Its really like going from a tiny little SD television to a giant flat screen HD, everything is so much clearer and visible. The one downside I have found is the colors and scan lines. Without lightboost the colors are great, you can find a couple sites with drivers and special settings to use for this monitor, however with lightboost on everything is washed out and purple tinted. Ive gotten used to it but it may be a surprise at first. Ive been using the program flux which changes the color temperature by time of day to try and offset this and it looks much mroe natural now. With lightboost as well you can see visable scan lines across the screen. You can probably look up google images or threads about it to see examples. Im not sure if mine is just faulty or all of them do this but it is not that big of a deal, unless you have the monitor right in front of your face. Love the adjustable height and swivel, power button is really easy to hit haha and the built in timers and crosshairs are pretty cool.

Ok guys so I got this monitor exclusively for my PS4, with that said I know I will not be able to take advantage of the 144Hz and the other features that the monitor has. The one thing you can take full advantage is the 1ms response time and the Game Plus Function with different recitals, I will be honest I was very skeptical about this feature. Well I unboxed it and put it together, took about 5 mins and fired this baby up. I adjusted the color, etc,etc, simple to do. Well I am a BF4 player so I went into that game and fixed the settings, I went into the training range to try out the game plus thing, at first I was ok so this is knida of cool. I played around with it for a bit just to get my eyes adjusted to it. Well I went into my first TDM match,using the SAR, well I went 39 and 5, went into another game 45 and 10, third game 35 and 6!!! I kept on playing for about 2 hours and every time I would end a match with over 25 kills and les then 10 deaths?? To be VERY honest this game feature helps out so much that at times I felt like I was cheating. I also did notice that I felt that I had an advantage towards other player with response time, I dont know its weird but you WILL notice it! Now before you guys start saying that this is bs, I also have a gaming rig with a ASUS VG278H which I also used with my ps4. The only reason I got this monitor is because with my VG278H I just felt that my reaction time was slow on my part, not on the monitor, this was an issue with me. I am an older guy so my eyes are not what they use to be plus I where glasses, And I also play at my desk. The ASUS VG278H is an awesome monitor too dont get me wrong, but now this smaller one I can focus my eyes a lot better for me. Bottom line this monitor is beautiful and yes you will see people say you will not benefit with this monitor if you are using it for a console. Its your money do what you like with it, but from a PS4 fan this monitor works awesome. The one tip I will give is the TRACE FREE fuction, set that to 60 or 80, not a 100 you will see a bit of screen tearing or like the ps4 is trying to catch up to the monitor, other than that GET THIS MONITOR!!!!
