Greater than one weekI was on the fence buying a TN panel display. I mean come on, its 2017... I can get the same 24 IPS display I bought 5 years ago for half the price I originally payed for it, and half the price of this TN panel. But reading the reviews and studying up on higher framerates, on top of playing competitive pvp games led me to picking up one of these when I needed to replace my main display. I bought into the hype... AND OMG was it worth it. WOW 144 Hz what a difference. IMMEDIATELY after setting the monitor refresh rate on my NVidia GTX 1060 to 144 Hz I knew I made the right choice. I sat there in awe moving my mouse around the screen so smoothly and crisply. You wouldnt think youd pick up the difference but I can easily see it just by moving my mouse around on my new and old monitors side by side. Obviously gaming-wise the difference is just as well, Battlerite at 144Hz is perfection. Color-wise, no doubt this panel competes with my old IPS ASUS displays (VE247H & an older VH236H). Side by side I dont even notice a difference after tuning the settings and colors, if anything the blacks look even better on the VG248QE. Im stunned. Just know that, like all of the ASUS monitors Ive used, the VG248QE needs some significant tuning to get the colors / levels set correctly. The last thing Ill talk about is the stand. My older ASUS monitors have fixed stands with no height adjustment or rotation. The added advantage of the rotation and height adjustments are super nice and I didnt realize what I was missing. The base of the display has an integrated rotation feature, really high quality.

> 3 dayI am amazed at this monitors quality and specs. There is a reason I waited forever to get this monitor. I literally was on a waiting list for a month and the date on mine is January and I purchased this in March 2015. My main thing is gaming with a high end single gpu video card, so I wanted a monitor to take care of that. This thing delivers with the 144hz refresh rate. The colors were washed out, but a single download of the ICC profile and this thing has beautiful color. Simply google VG248QE ICC and you will find what your looking for. I would not take an good 60hz IPS monitor over this simply because of the 1ms GTG and 144hz. That should speak for itself if your a gamer like I am. Also I want give Asus credit on the monitor stand for this. It is superb design with its horizontal swivel, height adjustment, and vertical swivel. If your an enthusiast who is looking at this monitor, then this has the right amount of specs to make you happy. The only con I can think of right now is the lack of peripherals for connection. You do not get any HDMI (which will not give 144hz refresh) or display port (high refresh rate). I had to purchase my display port cable separate which isnt a big deal, but at least I got a 3ft Dvi cable with this monitor to at least use until my display port cable arrives. The included Dvi cable will provide that 144 hz refresh rate if your video card does not have display port.

Greater than one weekBuilt-in 2W stereo, DisplayPort, Dual-link DVI-D, and HDMI ports, 1920x1080, 80,000,000:1 ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio, and 350 cd/m² of brightness, 144 Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time are some of the awesome features that this badboy display features. This display has a minimum black level of .0121 cd/m^2 and brightness level of 412 cd/m^2. I have tested this display with various games (BF4, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Lichdom Battlemage. Compared to my old monitor Acer G235HAbd 23 (which I bought in 2012 and still use) I dont have to worry about ghosting, lag, or choppy action due to fast response time & refresh rate, colors were more crisper, contrast was much more definitive, and the difference in brightness is comparable to a led flashlight vs. candle light (yup it is pretty bright). This display is certainly an eye opener in my perspective. However, one thing to note is that the colors are washed out, and brightness level is too high with stock settings, and so you have to manually tweak the settings in order to get a good image quality. The HDMI cable limits the refresh rate to 60 Hz, but the DVI cable offers full 144 Hz refresh rate. I have not tested the built in speakers so I am not sure about sound quality of the built-in speakers, but if you ask any gamer they will say they either use a headset or external sound system hooked up to the computer so it is not a big deal for me at least. The VG248QE doesnt have a gamma control so it has gamma setup horribly that an attempt to achieve a 2.2 power law gamma will actually crush your blacks (yeah - its that bad). All is not lost as these problems can be fixed with some calibrating and an ICC profile. (Tutorials can be found on tomshardware.com and reddit (Just search calibrating asus vg248qe). Not as good looking as a IPS panel, but no one is going to buy this for graphic design where accurate colors are a must-have. This is a gaming monitor and the inaccuracy of the colors really isnt that noticeable once calibrated.

> 3 dayI considered buying this monitor for a long time and I have to say that I am not disappointed. Firstly, to all those people out there who say that the human eye cant even detect refresh rates beyond 60fps or what not, I will say, 100%, with no doubt, hook me up to a lie detector, give me a blinded test that you are WRONG. The difference between a standard 60 vs the 144 which I use on this is extremely obvious. It is actually a little strange at first because it feels a little psychedelic like everything on the screen just got really, well, smooth! Whether or not this is somethign that matter to you is another matter. At this point, I prefer it, but I didnt have a problem at 60. Game wise, its response time and all that is nice, but I never played many twitch games so it never really mattered to me. The brightness is good. I work in a pretty dark environment, so the brightness doesnt matter to me as much, but compared to any other monitor Ive ever had, I would say this is just as good if not better than most. As far as 3D is concerned, I bought this initially because I thought 3D gaming...Awesome!!. So I bought the NVIDIA 3Dvision 2 kit and all that jazz and two days later, returned it all. Just wasnt as good as a wanted and there werent enough instantly compatible games to really make it worth it. I have the full 3D setup from my projector (Epson 5030U which I also reviewed-excellent projector) and truthfully, I decided that if I want to play 3D games, that big screen vs close screen didnt really change much for me. Size wise, I always would say to go bigger but realistically the monitor is perfect for me to work and mess around on. I sit about 2-2.5 feet away from my monitor and its size is just right. Also, I can see from A to AC on an excel spreadsheet in full screen standard view and that is plenty for the majority of my work. Thats a weird way to describe the size, but if it is relevant to you, then I did a good job :-) Overall, I was between this and a BenQ model that was similar and Im not thinking that I should have gone with the other one. I have nothing negative to say about the similar BenQ, I never used it. I dont know if I made the right choice, but Im not thinking about it anymore, so I feel like that means that I am pretty happy. I recommend.

> 3 dayWell... To start off, heres what came in my box (as of July 8, 2017) 1x DVI Dual Link Cable (DONT USE THIS GARBAGE CABLE THAT COMES WITH THE MONITOR!! More info down below) 1x ASUS VG248QE Monitor 1x ASUS VG248QE Monitor Drivers CD (Im not exactly sure what this is, but its in the box! lol) 1x Audio Cable 1x Power Cable 1x Manual Actual monitor review: I have owned this monitor for exactly a month! Its definitely the cheapest 144Hz monitor that you will find at this price range (as of this review it is fluctuating around $250). If you are coming from a 60Hz monitor then you will definitely be able to see the difference. (Its life changing! No more strain on the eyes!) The way the monitor is built is also outstanding. You can turn it in all directions possible! The vertical height of this monitor is astounding, and turning it horizontally is a breeze with the lazy susan type of thing it sits on. I really only have two issues with this monitor, and both of the issues can easily be resolved. My first issue would be that the ENTIRE monitor is a glossy finish which results in a lot of fingerprints and visible dust collection, but that isnt a issue with the monitor, more on personal preference. My other issue is that when you first get this monitor plugged in and ready to go and turn it on, your eyes will bleed. The colors that this monitor is preset to is awful. The presets that they have in the menu option are also awful. It hurt my eyes when I first turned it on and configuring it to get it to a usable color saturation was difficult as this monitor really favors yellow hues (at least in my opinion). But the color issue I fixed within the first hour of owning it so no biggie! Some tips and tricks if you have issues with your monitor (Such as a flickering red pixel problem like me): I suggest that when you receive your monitor to go and check for dead pixels (just type in dead pixel test in Google). I did this when I first got it and it was clear for dead pixels, yay! My reason for 4 stars though is because exactly after a month (the time you get to refund an item no questions asked on Amazon) I got flickering red pixels on my screen when I watched videos or played games!! Yikes!! That freaked me out! I thought I was out $250, lol. Google is my best friend though and I passionately looked and hoped for a fix to flickering red pixels. Most of the solutions were to check my GPU. Everything was already updated though and at this point I was pretty sad. Then I saw a solution which was try switching out the DVI Cable. I thought this was so stupid but at the same time so brilliant! (Or maybe I thought it was stupid because I didnt even think of doing that at first...hehe) I used the cable that came with the box originally. I just went out to my local electronics store and picked up a DVI dual link cable and BOOM! No more flickering red pixels!!! So I would definitely say DO NOT use the cable that comes with the box. It will give you a very big headache and a sense of impending doom... I hope this review helped!

> 3 dayI purchased this monitor before G-sync went live and fell deeply in love with the response rate and the 144hz speed. I am a professional gamer and play games that require twitch movement and speed. I went from a 70Hz 6ms Asus monitor to this whopping 144Hz 1ms monitor and I DEFINITELY notice a difference. From games such as Starcraft and CS:GO, this monitor provides you with the edge in game. I demand performance and this is exactly what it gave me and more. I installed G-Sync following the DIY tutorial on NVIDIAs web site. The installation was easy granted that I have experience dismantling and building computers and components. The overall installation only took 20 minutes for me and really improved my gaming performance. The twitch games such as CS:GO are the kind that I really saw a jump in improvement. The G-Sync along with the 1ms and 144Hz gave games such as BF4, Crysis, and CS:GO a great boost in fluidity and responsiveness. As stated before, my old monitor was 6 years old and this upgrade turned my whole life around. The responsiveness, cleanliness, and fluidity are very noticeable and give me more of an enjoyable gaming experience. I have even restarted various games such as Metro and Bioshock because the gameplay was that much more enjoyable with this monitor and with G-sync installed. If you are in the market for a gaming monitor that is G-sync capable, look no further. For the price you are getting a top-notch monitor with the capability of adding g-sync to really boost your experience. This is by far one of the most important parts of my gaming rig i have purchased and is one that I highly recommend to anyone who wants to get the most out of their computer and their gaming experience. Side note: I have recently ditched my 60hz 42in TV from my living room since I am no longer able to bare the slow 60Hz. I now watch TV on my Asus monitor...

> 3 dayWhen I was buying this monitor, it was supposed to be the second in my setup. For the price I didnt expect much from it, and assumed my primary monitor will not change (120hz, 3D support, etc.). However, I quickly changed my mind when unboxed it and had a chance to compare. No ghosting and no flickering even when V-Sync is disabled @183Hz. Its OK to expect some flickering when you disable V-Sync, but on this monitor I havent seen it a single time. It depends on the games, though. The brightness is awesome, which is especially important when using 3D goggles. In my setup I could only use 120Hz in 3D, but this was the goggles limitation (NVidia, 1st-gen). After almost 3 years of using it, I still cannot tell anything bad about it. UPDATE. Now, when I use it for more than 6 years, I do have a complaint (not affecting the score though). The way how this monitor talks with the host devices via HDMI/DP drives crazy some of the modern devices. I have a MacBook Pro in the household that crashes to kernel occasionally, being attached to this monitor via MiniDP=>DP cable. It works just fine being attached to a newer monitor. My main system has RTX 2080 video card onboard, and it simply cannot boot with this monitor attached to any port (USB-C/HDMI/DP). I never thought a monitor can affect the host system that bad, but this is a proven fact in my setup. The main system works flawlessly with a newer monitor (Benq), but if I switch it to this monitor (doesnt matter if its a secondary or the only one), the system simply hangs in POST. Its a mystery which Im not going to solve. Ill replace the monitor instead. It fully paid off during these 6 years anyway, so no score penalty. This monitor worths its money.
