I setup the RT-AX88U without a problem using the elegant on board setup routine. There are more features available than I needed but the advanced features surely would satisfy the most ardent tech. The signal covers most all of my 300 ft. X 60 ft. lot with the unit sitting inside my home on my upstairs desk top. The RT-AX88U has operated flawlessly since installation four weeks ago.

I ordered this router Feb 19th to replace my Asus AC1900 which worked great, but I always have to have the newest tech. What a mistake! I finally got around to installing the router this week. I’ve been having nothing but problems with it especially random reboots, kicking devices off WiFi and dropped WiFi issues. Well today I’ve had enough and boxed it back up and went back to my old router. I went on to Amazon to return and of course my “window has closed”. Now I’m stuck with this $340 piece of junk. Thanks Amazon.

    Greater than one week

Works like a champ and is much faster than our Nighthalk.

The most elementary security feature does NOT work. Even when reply to PING setting is set to NO the router still replies to PING! Any hacker running a port scan will be able to see this! I rebooted, change the setting back and forth/apply/reboot, I did anything I could think of and the setting stays the same, it will answer to PING. And this is with the latest firmware too!!! The Asus tech support is...webpage is totally useless, chat does NOT actually exist and the phone tech support had no clue why this is happening and no solution either. Had me fill a form to escalate support. But in the mean time my router is still vulnerable! I will update the review depending on the reply from tech support but so far is really disappointing for a router so expensive. And you would think they had time to iron all the bugs out, it seems not. And this is not some high-tech and obscure setting it is the most basic!

I purchased my ASUS router to replace a 15 year old router. What a difference! Wifi speeds increased from 30 megabits to 367 megabits and the range expanded dramatically. I was able to take my two wifi boosters offline and still have a great signal throughout my house. The ASUS router has a MESH option but the signal is so strong I dont need it. Wired and wireless speeds are the same almost everywhere in my home. Set up was pretty much plug and play. The ASUS router ap allows me to monitor and control the router direct from my phone or via laptop. Im very pleased with my purchase.

I purchased this router as an upgrade to my ASUS RT-AC68U. This new router is faster, stronger and more reliable. The old router often dropped connections and this one does not.

Great router...woke up this morning to the entire floor smelling like burnt electronics. Support person told me to plug it in, despite my warning that the thing already reeks, and sure enough a little black puff of smoke greeted me.

So I have used this Wireless Access-Point Router as a hub in my AI Mesh, I have two other Asus devices acting as nodes, and those devices are hard-wired into the hub, the wifi aspect of the network is not reliable. I bought this system to replace my Verizon Fios router, which always worked pretty well, the wifi portion never had any interrupts and only required one device, video was near perfect. Now with three devices I am having difficulty getting decent connectivity. On New Years Eve I had essentially bandwidth measured in kilobits. This unit required 2 resets that day alone. Having said that all the hard wired connected devices have seamless connectivity to video streaming services, (proving its not my provider), I think the concept Asus has put out creating a mesh is great but if it does not work well then I cannot substantiate the hi cost of this unit. I paid $300 for this device, another $300 for my RT-AC88U, and then over $100 for my RT-AC68U devices. To not have at least the same standard of reliability that the Verizon Router provided is really annoying.

Wanted to go with the Wi Fi 6 standard and add Aimesh system. Ive been using an Asus RT AC-68u router for several years and been very happy with it. After installing new RT ax-88u router and setting it up, the old router got moved into an outbuilding, set up as an Aimesh. All works wonderfully - no problems. Im used to the Asus firmware menu, so things went fairly smoothly. Speed for phones and tablets definitely increased in the 5G band, even though theyre AC Wi Fi 5 devices.

If you do decide to use the built-in AI protection feature to secure your network, be aware that all of your traffic is analyzed by ASUS and possibly their third party partners. So, any live traffic is going to be scanned and your private information could possibly be sold to 3rd party agencies. This is an optional feature, and they do show you a TOS now (before they didnt). So, use your own judgement before enabling the AI Protection feature.
