802.11ax aka wifi 6 is much faster than previous versions, wpa3 makes wifi signal more secure. The best about this router is its heavily customizable such as using DoT (DNS over TLS). With 3rd party firmware like asus merlin, you can do other things like install adblockers. The device itself looks great, is very durable and doesnt seem to get too hot with excessive use. Overall it is expencive but well worth the cost.

The router keeps disconnecting from internet, even after daily scheduled reboots the router will disconnect.

Good speed and great design. But it could not handle the number of devices I have.

We had had the same internet connection for 12 or 13 years. Another internet provider came to town with faster options so we signed up with the new guys. We initially used the same router that we had been using for many years. We had problems with dropping connections and we did not see the increase in speed that we had been expecting. We started doing some research and found that this Asus router got at least as many good reviews as any other router that we could find. We hooked this router up. It took a call to the Asus help line, but the lady there was quite helpful and things went smoothly after that call. Out internet speed increased dramatically. The range improved substantially too. Maybe we bought more router than we needed, but I have no regrets.

A fantastic router that was easy to set up. Highly recommend to anyone looking to upgrade their existing router.

Ive always purchased Linksys routers. I still have 8 including a WRT3200ACM (dd-wrt configured by FlashRouters), WRT1900ACS, EA9500, EA8500, EA6900, EA6900 (dd-wrt) and 2 more older routers that I configured with dd-wrt. After a year of dealing with VPN and the FlashRouter App problems with the Linksys WRT3200ACM DD-WRT FlashRouters router, I decided to try an Asus router for VPN. The router is easy to flash with Asuswrt-Merlin and easy to flash back to the original Asuswrt firmware. VPN is very easy to configure. I might have had one problem with a VPN server and easily switched to another configured VPN server on the router. My only complaint is how existing folders on a NAS (USB hard drive) have to be mapped as individual drives. However, when setting up a new hard drive (NAS), subfolders can easily be added to a parent folder so that only one drive has to be mapped to access all the folders. Although I didnt have a problem with the NAS with the original Asus firmware (RT-AX88U_3.0.0.4_384_7756), the NAS will not remain mapped with Asuswrt-Merlin 384.14 firmware. Hopefully, with a little troubleshooting, I can find a fix for this. The Wi-Fi signal is very strong. To test the strength of Wi-Fi, I put the Asus RT-AX88U router in a network cabinet thats not mounted in the center of the house. The signal is so strong that I decided to leave the router in the cabinet.

This is my third ASUS router that I’m returning. Under performing, low WiFi range, unstable connectivity and weak signal. I think it’s more suitable for small apartment not a house unlike the description.

Purchased in September 2019 and it died today (May 2021). I expected it to last more than two years. It sat in the same cool, dry spot the entire time and was exposed to no trauma. Worked great, until it didn’t, which is disappointing.

I used the RT-AX88U for a week and its performance was good. However, if you have 1 Gbps or higher it is better to get the GT-AX6000 for about the same price. The GT was launched in 2022 and it has newer components with better performance. The 88U is from 2019 and its performance is not great if you have a 1 Gbps internet connection.

I doubled my speed from a Linksys WR32x to this on the same spot, now I can actually use my 1gpbs internet conneciton.
