I have a Raspberry PI 3B (running Raspbian Stretch). I was tethering it to an iphone 6 over USB/hotspot with a Mint Mobile SIM. This setup worked great, but I was tying up an iphone just for the RPI and every once in a while I would need to restart the iphone (it didnt happen that frequently actually maybe once every 5 weeks). I have the RPI configured as a WIFI hotspot for a security camera at a remote location with no other internet besides what is provided through the iphone and the data plan I had there. So the internet service via the iphone was the only way for the security camera to communicate out to the world (me) and for me to communicate back to it (using reverse SSH - for those who want to know...). This worked fine but was a pain if I needed to restart the iphone, say due to a power outage causing the battery to run down. Id have to drive to the location, and restart the iphone, re-enable the hot spot - you get the idea, it was a pain. I figured there had to be a way to use my Mint Mobile SIM (which is on the T-Mobile network) directly with the RPI. This USB modem does the trick. I saw another review state they got it working with qmicli (which is a command line interface to configure a qualcomm based usb modem), I didnt get that working with qmicli as I couldnt immediately find instructions. Fortunately I found another blog post that walks through setting up this exact modem on the RPI. All you need is your carriers APN. In my case for Mint Mobile it was wholesale. I cant post the l-i-n-k so find the instructions by the following method below: Perform a search for raspberry-pi-with-huawei-E397u-53-dongle-metro and youll find the instructions Once you get the instructions, Its pretty straight forward. In the end where it explains how to update the DNS service, I replaced it with the google dns which is 8 8 8 8 and 8 8 4 4. Everything works great, I can get like 5-22Mbit/s up and down which is perfect for my needs (and considering the device is in a bad T-Mobile area, Im happy with that). Now when I reboot the PI, internet comes back up - no iphone needed :)

Called T-Mobile about connection to network problems and was told they no longer support this product. Item was returned and credit was received. I purchased the Alcatel 4G LTE GSM T-Mobile device and it works.

I had a hard time making it work, the included software would hang. I tried it in Win10 and win7. I found that I could start the software while the device is disconnected but it still wouldnt connect to the service. Then I observed the scratch patterns on my micro SIM were off by too much. I cut away at my micro to full size sim adapter to better align it and it is working. Still the software autostarts when I start windows and autostarts when I insert the adapter. Once youve used this software once to connect you can then exit the software and the connection will remain active through windows networking, and you can reconnect to your cellular carrier (TMO in my case; I use a project Fi data only sim) through windows networking. Im not sure yet how Im going to get this to work in Linux yet; I plan on using it on a raspberry pi car computer.

Works well with Googles Project-FI service in US. But for some odd reason, not in Canada. My hunch is that the problem stems from both Google (the service provider that leverages network switching, and hence, remittance to the network providers in Canada), and the freq-bands this device can support

Using this as a secondary connection for my Asus router with an extra data sim card I had laying around. It works fantastic! Ive set up my Asus router to use the Sim card dongle as a fail-safe when my dsl goes out and it has worked flawlessly the three times our DSL has gone out, switches right over to the dongle and internet is right back up over 4g LTE in a minute or so. As soon as the DSL comes back this dongle goes into standby mode and just waits patiently until its called on again. Im using a T-mobile sim card in this dongle that has unlimited data. Its an extra we have on our family plan and its now being put to good use.

After some mixed reviews of speed and compatibility, it was seen by my laptop (windows 10) right away. Installed the Cricket connector software for the drivers and everything seemed to setup automatically even though I didnt put in the h2g2 APN. Testing with my Gl.iNet router I had to add the h2g2 APN. Location seems to be very important, or Ive got some material in my house blocking the path to the tower. Uploads seemed to be consistent peaking at 14 Mbps, but download speed varied heavily but still avg about 9 Mbps. I imagine in a good line of site to the tower you will get better speeds. For comparison, phone speed tested at 29 Mbps down and 5 Mpbs up.

Not sure why people are having issues installing. I just plugged and ran the installer from the auto run prompt. Afterwards windows had more drivers to install, but once that finished it connected and was blazing fast. One note is that you need an old full-size sim. I was able to get my nano sim working with an adapter from T-Mobile that you get with a new sim.
