> 3 dayWorked great for me. Have it connected to my Joying Android head Unit in the jeep. Had to root the unit to be able to use PPP3, but it definitely does what it is supposed to do. Took away one star because it takes quite a bit of time for it to dial out and connect. Other than that gives me exactly what I was looking for. I dont have to use my phone as a hot spot. Have this connected for data and the phone connected for BT / Phone

> 3 dayI have a Raspberry PI 3B (running Raspbian Stretch). I was tethering it to an iphone 6 over USB/hotspot with a Mint Mobile SIM. This setup worked great, but I was tying up an iphone just for the RPI and every once in a while I would need to restart the iphone (it didnt happen that frequently actually maybe once every 5 weeks). I have the RPI configured as a WIFI hotspot for a security camera at a remote location with no other internet besides what is provided through the iphone and the data plan I had there. So the internet service via the iphone was the only way for the security camera to communicate out to the world (me) and for me to communicate back to it (using reverse SSH - for those who want to know...). This worked fine but was a pain if I needed to restart the iphone, say due to a power outage causing the battery to run down. Id have to drive to the location, and restart the iphone, re-enable the hot spot - you get the idea, it was a pain. I figured there had to be a way to use my Mint Mobile SIM (which is on the T-Mobile network) directly with the RPI. This USB modem does the trick. I saw another review state they got it working with qmicli (which is a command line interface to configure a qualcomm based usb modem), I didnt get that working with qmicli as I couldnt immediately find instructions. Fortunately I found another blog post that walks through setting up this exact modem on the RPI. All you need is your carriers APN. In my case for Mint Mobile it was wholesale. I cant post the l-i-n-k so find the instructions by the following method below: Perform a search for raspberry-pi-with-huawei-E397u-53-dongle-metro and youll find the instructions Once you get the instructions, Its pretty straight forward. In the end where it explains how to update the DNS service, I replaced it with the google dns which is 8 8 8 8 and 8 8 4 4. Everything works great, I can get like 5-22Mbit/s up and down which is perfect for my needs (and considering the device is in a bad T-Mobile area, Im happy with that). Now when I reboot the PI, internet comes back up - no iphone needed :)

Greater than one weekI purchased and tested several USB 3G/4G modem from Amazon recently, and this is the only one that works in 4G/LTE network. The modem is recognized as a flash drive in Windows 10 with a software. Just install the software and insert the sim card. You are good to go. The speed is 5~6 M/s downloading and 5 M/s uploading, which is enough for my work.

> 3 dayThis review is a technical solution review for someone who has the following issues: 1. Bought a Chromebook with no Sim Card slot 2. Has a grandfathered unlimited cell phone plan on a carrier that refuses tethering and USB tethering (cheat workarounds) only work on a Windows machine, MacOSX, Chrooted w/ Crouton / Linux set-up running Windows virtual machine or the likes 3. Overall, loving your chromebook but feel isolated when at a park/beach/public scene with no available wifi in sight. The above--was literally my life after making the switch from a Windows box to a Chromebook. It depressed me when I was on the road and needed wifi (with ZERO available) to do some of my design work. I was like, Great! Shouldve NEVER bought this thing! But, then I was inspired and me being the natural problem solver I am--Found Unlocked 4G LTE Huawei Modem. Perfect! Its small, fits in a bag, and it speaks ChromeOS. Winning! But, damn....AT&T wont give me a data SIM thats unlimited to go with my plan. Soooooo....I found a close second for pennies, called Ting (you can get it on Amazon and link it to your prime account for monthly payment). Ting is amazing--you only pay per the 100MBs you use. If you dont use 100, you dont pay. that month. 0$ -Simple plan. Simple USB modem. Chromebook disaster averted and still my beneficial lightweight computing transformation. This modem is amazeballs to say the least-- plug N play. Doesnt get any easier! I hope my crisis helps others solve their wifi-chromebook disaster. <3 Happy Droiding (run from Mac and Windows while you still can!)
