Conceptually, I think this is a great product. I really wanted to like it and make it work. Other reviewers have also mentioned they measured their windows and it didnt fit. I did the same. Based on measurements, it shouldve fit but didnt. If you have standard windows and are looking for an AC brace, I highly recommend. For the most part it was easy to put together. Mine showed up a bit scratched, which I noticed as I put it together. Also, when purchased I purchased under the TopShelf link but the Black & Decker branded one showed up. I guess they have a partnership but I can imagine it being confusing for some customers.

I thought we were going to have to hire someone to secure our window air conditioner in the attic, but this works GREAT!! It was easy to assemble, and easy to install in the window. The air conditioner is now securely in place. When I was searching some commenters thought it was too expensive, but I would rather pay a little more to have something I know is secure. We just had new siding and windows installed last year, so we also like that this doesnt need to be attached to the outside wall to be secure -- so there are no holes in our new exterior!! Love it!!

Extremely sturdy and easy to install BUT needs some modifications if using with an AC requiring to install the cabinet then the AC itself. I used 2 pieces of 3/8 thick aluminum I bolted to the far crossbar , then I could install the cabinet (bolted to the crossbars). I would suggest the manufacturer to offer this modification as an option. Fits tightly and very nicely. Required very little weather stripping. For all other window ACs, can be used easily. Just check that your windows are compatible with this shelf: go on the web site of the manufacturer: there are some good pictures. By the way the instructions are not well written.

Exactly what we needed. Our AC was too complicated to use the manufacturers instructions to install in the window. We had to take it out of the casing, screw the casing into the window, attach the brackets to the casing, slide the unit back into the casing, put it all back together, put the rim brackets on, it was a pain. I thought someone else has had to have this problem, and there has to be a solution out there already, did some research and came across this product. One caveat. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR EMAILS. The manufacturer will be contacting you to confirm the type and size of windows you have. Id recommend putting that information in the product description. After three cancellations and a poor review from me, I ran across the buried emails in my inbox. After we connected Ernie was great, and even sent this out overnight for the regular shipping charge because of the misunderstanding. At first I was miffed, because Id already read the requirements and had already measured the windows and such, but on second thought was pleased theyd go to so much trouble to ensure you have the correct type of windows. A lot of people dont read the details. NOW FOR THE PRODUCT ITSELF: This product is VERY STURDY & WELL MADE. EXTREMELY EASY TO PUT TOGETHER. SIMPLE TO ADJUST. Two arms rest against the inside of the window frame, the two legs rest against the outside wall and the weight of the unit holds everything sturdily in place. Is absolutely ideal if you have an upstairs window in a rental apartment and cant mar the window with screws and such. For our house, its on the first floor, which Id be hesitant to do if the unit wasnt so heavy. All in all, a WELL THOUGHT OUT PRODUCT. I RECOMMEND IT WHOLEHEARTEDLY - if you have the correct type and size of window.

I had a nightmare time trying to install my 12000BTU AC in my condos window. The window is old and the sill is strange, and other brackets that required bolts just didnt line up properly. I decided to go with this one after reading the wirecutter review and wow did it do the trick. I simply installed the arms and the locking mechanisms and it fit just right. It turned a project I dreaded doing into something I found quite easy and fun. Would buy again.

Every AC unit that says its an easy install for windows lies (at least based on how my windows are set up) and although the price is steep, it makes installation a breeze for all unit sizes (works so well I bought 2). If you have difficulty getting your unit in the window every summer this is worth relieving the stress of that process. in terms of durability time will tell. given the perceived strength of the components im surprised it doesnt have a longer warranty which is a little frustrating but otherwise im satisfied.

Was easy to install and seemed quite sturdy. Was a touch expensive though and doesn’t really fully bear the weight of the AC except at the window jam. The problem is really with the AC as it doesn’t allow for that suggested 4deg down bubble due to being ‘clipped’ into the window pane. But my landlord said we needed brackets on all AC units so here we are.

We have ruined our window trim with installing and reinstalling our air conditioner in the spring/fall. I was done, so I started looking for something that was simple and easy and would provide the support we needed. I chose this product because it came fully assembled except four pieces which you need to adjust to your window. It took us a couple of tries to get it installed (no more than 30 minutes) once it is was installed, we slide the AC unit onto the bracket - what a great device. It leveled properly. We liked it so much we purchased 2 more brackets for our other AC units. Highly recommend.

Yes, it doesnt fit windows without a ledge on the outside of the window. But it looked a bit sturdier than others on the market, and the seller does state that it wont work with windows without an outside sill, so not theyre fault. I was able to make it work by getting a wide lead bar and a 1X3 board from the hardware store and using it as a brace on the inside of the window buy inserting them both into the hollow space in the front wings that go on the inside of the window. Both extend out a few inches and brace it against the inside molding of the window on each side. The metal bar was because I have a heavier AC, and the board would have bowed. Not the best solution, but it did look sturdier than the others on the market so Im not sending it back. Some of the other brands only had 1 stabilizing foot in the middle, I like that this has 2. And I like the fact that I dont have to drill holes in my window sill. So Ill nix one star because I wish it fit windows without an outside ledge. Oh, and the holes arent supposed to line up on the leg depth adjustment. Its a little confusing, but it was designed that way to allow you to make more subtle depth adjustments and still keep the metal sturdy by having fewer holes drilled into the metal. Kind of confusing, but I understood why once I started trying to adjust them. Im happy I dont have to drill holes into my window sill.
