> 3 dayJust the right amount of heat you need for chicks. No light emitting, just warmth so the chicks are not up all night. I had to try one & everybody that has seen it wants one!

> 3 dayI wanted to use this on a red tail boa that I had in a 40 gallon breeder tank. I had it on for several minutes (probably about 30) and it would not heat the basking area of the tank sufficiently which is about 16 inches away from the lamp. I replaced it with what I had before and am currently using, a red heat lamp bulb. I gave this 2 stars instead of only one because it DID get hot, and I mean scorching hot, but it didnt radiate heat much past about 6 inches.

> 3 dayIf you use your own base be sure to have it extra secure with materials that are very heat resistant... when this lamp is on it gets EXTREMELY hot! Any duct tape and plastic near it will melt away. Make sure its secure because this baby is quite the fire hazard. Its capable of heating a small space extremely quickly, though, and combined with the Zoo Med ReptiTemp 500R Remote Sensor Thermostat you can keep temperature perfectly accurate.

> 3 dayI am going to kind of go out of the circle on this product and show how I used it. I have a well pump in the northern area of Pennsylvania. I needed a head sourse for the cabinet it sets in and I need to maintain a constant temp. of around 45 degrees. I have worked this lamp heavy while it attached to a thermostat and it works outstanding. This is a strong lamp and holds up without much worry when not around. I was going to place it in a hood and it ratiats outstanding. I could see that when in a hood it will product strong heat in a large area. The main thing is this lamp holds up in a harsh enviroment so it should breeze in confinded area. I would keep it on a thermostat.

> 3 dayA friend bought me one for my baby snake, and it is making a horrible buzzing noise and overheating the lamp within 3 hours of use. The old heat emitter, made by All Living Things, NEVER did this. This thing is a fire hazard, and since it was a gift (purchased from Amazon) I have no idea how to return it. Worthless.

01-11-2024I just bought my fourth Zoo Med heater, which does a great job of taking the edge off the cold for my small chicken coop. The problem is -- they all fail the same way -- the bond between the ceramic and the metal screw base lets go. I havent gotten around to exploring a way to mount it differently, maybe place it in a metal basket so the weight of the ceramic doesnt bear on the base seal. Anyway, its too bad such a great product isnt more reliable.
