There are super hero movies, there is what Martin Scorsese calls “cinema”, then there is Cool as Ice. This movie exists to remind us that the 90’s weren’t as awesome as we remember. It’s a highly entertaining train wreck and the perfect thing to show your kids so they are totally convinced you’re not cool, nor have you ever been. How Rob Van Winkle didn’t get an Oscar nod for this escapes me.

This was a good movie that starred one of my favorite rap singers Vanilla Ice. It seems that I get a great feeling or I am taken back in time whenever I watch a 80s/90s movie or even listen to the music back then. Vanilla Ice played a cool, hip but good guy who developed feelings for a female who is about to attend college, lives with strict but good parents and curious brother, and has an arrogant boyfriend. Fortunately, she started becoming happier and finding out who she really is when she started spending time with Vanilla Ices character. Her parents did not like and accept him until the near end when he rescued their son and her brother from gangsters.

When I ordered this movie I was not sure if it would come the way I ordered it but it was a great choice, because I got what I ordered for a great price.

Seriously though... Vanilla Ice has the acting skills of a piece of driftwood. Oh man, this movie is terrible. Its so terrible that I found myself cracking up the majority of the time. Its so mind-numbingly bad that I actually kinda liked watching it. But I just couldnt bring myself to give this crapfest a four or five star rating, no matter how many times I laughed at it. Its basically Vanilla Ice trying to be a neon-clad James Dean with fantastic pickup lines such as, Drop that zero and get with a hero. Do I really need to say anything about that one? Didnt think so. My favorite scene of the movie would probably be the one where he magically jumps his motorcycle over a fence without a ramp. Who needs physics? Not Ice. So if youre bored (and preferably drunk and/or high), pop this cheesefest in your old VCR.

I completely realize that this film is garbage. There were, to my count, at least three montages in a row which is an accomplishment. A dumb one, an accomplishment none the less. It is a film that you can watch with a group of friends and just make fun of it, and for those of use who can remember the 1990s, it was a real treat to recount just how stupid a lot of it was. Overall, I laughed a lot at this film. I would recommend it for anyone who wishes to kill a hour and a half and get a laugh.

Yes, this movie is flawed...I mean, REALLY flawed. The actors are bad, the plot is bad, the direction is bad. Then why am I giving this movie 4 stars? Because in spite of all its weaknesses, Cool as Ice is a cute, enjoyable flick with no other pretense than trying really hard to be a good star vehicle for Vanilla Ice, whose short-lived fame turned him into a laughingstock soon after. To this day, I still think theres something entertaining about that film, though I cant quite put my finger on it. Watching Cool as Ice is a wonderful trip down memory lane: everything that made the pop culture of the early 90s so peculiar can be found in it, from the outrageous, colourful outfits to the awesome dance/pop music. It may not be a good movie in terms of its cinematographical values, but as far as entertainment goes, I think there are a lot of films out there that are much worse.

The thing is that people underestimate Vanilla Ice by saying that he has no talent. If he isnt talented then why did he sell over 17,000,000 records off of one album. At least he put effort into his shows on stage by dancing. I give this movie 5 stars because the Iceman does have talent and at least he got to be famous. By the way you all should check out his new album Bi-Polar then you may think different of him. This movie is a classic love story which they dont really make these days. Cool As Ice is actually based on my life on what happend in my events. This movie is realistic.
