> 3 dayI enjoyed this book as a nice story to escape in for a while. I enjoyed the world building aspect of it. It is set in the future, in which witches, telepaths and other supernaturals have been made known to the world, and theres a tense acceptance. The supernaturals have a city called Valhalla in which they live with their own governance. Some humans have bands bent on destroying these others though, and it is in this backdrop that the romance is born. The best characters in the book are male. It has gorgeous, protective, strong, muscular, powerful men almost every which way the story goes. The two female leads are well developed also, and quite likable. The villain, is not. Shes one dimensional and really a caricature, a Cruella De Ville type. It works though, perhaps it is her lack of development that keeps the story fun. The romance is hot, with hunk strongman Bas and love interest, the fair-haired Myst, not having too much agony, but a lot of chemistry. The sex is hot and a bit erotic, with down to earth language that isnt crass or flowerly. It happens as part of the story; this is not a book that sacrifices plot development or action sequences for whoopie time. I enjoyed the struggle in the story, which was a pure struggle of enemies to triumph over each other. It had an absolutely perfect resolution that was sweetly satisfying.

13-11-2024Id read the prior books in this series (2 full books and a prequel novella) and I was interested enough to read more. I really enjoyed the focus on Myst and Bas as they are complex characters with layers. Ivy really moved the series along with this book and developed several side stories. This is definitely paranormal romance bordering on erotic. The world building is excellent in my opinion. I have a few minor quibbles with this book and the series in general. The cover art seems straight out of the 1980s....I cant believe anyone thinks this enhances the story. I also have an odd reaction to a diction choice the author has made. She repeatedly refers to characters as this female or that male as if they were livestock. This word choice is used heavily throughout the series and I find it off putting. Also, the character of Molly is painted in over-the-top angelic word-smithing which I found irritating and saccharine. Those issues aside, I found the book engaging and the adult characters worth my investment as a reader. Id definitely follow the series if it stays to adult characters.

> 3 dayBook three to Alexandra Ivys Sentinel series Blood Lust follows Bas and his adorable daughter Molly (whom we meet in the last book). Waiting a year for each book is worth the wait, this is one of those series I keep on eye out for, I stalk Netgalley and Facebook for any information the newest book. Bas was just dark and mysterious enough in Blood Assassin to make my anticipation for this book pretty intense. It was worth it. Bas was raised an assassin, trained not like the others but more lethal than his sentinel counterparts. Bas had a difference of opinion with The Mage, Lana, a former friend and lover and was cast out of the high blood society. Bas is willing to go to any lengths to get what he wants and he succeeds in business but five years ago he met an irresistible young woman had one glorious night with her; he was willing to give her everything only to find her missing the next morning. Nine months later there is a baby girl on his doorstep. Bas assumed the worst about Myst and never expects to see her again. Unbeknownst to Bas during Mollys kidnapping she was so scared she reached out to her mother and found her since then they have been in telepathic contact. Myst knowing her daughter needs her returns but trouble follows Myst where ever she goes that is why she stayed gone for so long. Myst finally confides the truth to Bas of why she disappeared and why she left Molly behind. Bas does the only thing he can to keep Myst and Molly safe he calls in Lana and the Sentinels for help. Overall, this was a great read. I love Bas and Myst together they compliment each other well and Molly is such an adorable.

> 3 dayRating: 3.5 to 4 stars After book 2, I was really looking forward to reading more about Bas, our villain sort of from book 2, or at least not on the good side of Valhalla. His 4yo daughter was being held hostage, in book 2. In book 2, he just has gotten her back when the mysterious baby mama, Myst, pops back into their life. She has kept in psychic contact with her daughter all along, but Bas only knows she left and believes her to be a selfish person who didnt want their child. This doesnt actually turn out to be the case. Myst left because she believes her future puts high-bloods at risk via a prophecy. She gave her daughter to Bas to protect her. This prophecy is coming closer fast, and Myst and Bas join up to see if they change the future essentially. With that kind of plot, I expected to be on the edge of my seat but just wasnt. In fact, some of just dragged on and on to me, and I was completely bored. Not even tensions Wolfe and our lovely Mave of Valhalla could pull me out of that boredom. Myst and Bas? They were cute, but I kind of expected more from him after book 2. So, my final verdict is 3.5 to 4 stars. The story arc moves forward, they work as a couple, but it was a bit bland. I still look forward to whoever is next and really enjoy the series. My thanks to the publisher via Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book to read and give an honest review.

> 3 dayThis is the frist Sentinels Series book Ive read. I normally dont read Science Fiction, Paranormal or Futuristic books, but this one intrigued me. It is very well written, a stand alone story that can be fit into the puzzle of the series or read by itself. Alexandra Ivy offers a tightly woven plot and no loose ends. The main characters are well defined and the lesser ones are defined enough to make them interesting, no matter they are fleeting in their appearance in the story. When Bas and Myst--the main characters--create a child, she rushes away, never to be seen again. Until she shows up on his doorstep one day, wanting to see their daughter. The events that follow are fraught with action, tons of emotion and an on-the-edge-of-your-seat, page-turning involvement with this tale of intrigue, love, other-worldliness and fantasy. If you like stories with a magnificent alpha hero or two, a delicate heroine and children, you will want to read this story. I am going to read the rest of this series--in order. Great reading for a lazy afternoon.

> 3 dayARC was generously provided by the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I was really intrigued by Bas’s character by the end of the last book and left with several questions about him and Myst so I pretty excited to find out more about them in this book and it didn’t disappoint. Bas is an sentinel outlaw who had done quite well for himself by using dubious methods. He kidnaps Serra (the heroine of Blood Assassin) in the last book because his daughter, Molly had been kidnapped by his enemies. Bas would do anything for his daughter whom he loves very much. At the end of the last book we find out that Molly can talk to her mother. Bas of course believes that his daughter just misses her mother and isn’t actually talking to her. Myst is Molly’s mother and has been on the run it seems her entire life. She has been seeing visions of destruction of the sentinels ever since she was a child. Her parents sold her to the brotherhood, the enemies of the sentinels when they found out she was a sentinel highborn with a weapon that could destroy the sentinels. She had a very difficult childhood and eventually escapes from the brotherhood and has been on the run ever since. Myst has been telepathically talking to her daughter for quite some time now and when she finds out that Molly was kidnapped and returned she decides to just meet her daughter once. Bas is highly suspicious of Myst and angry at her for leaving their daughter and now returning just to leave again. He doesn’t want Molly to get hurt and himself because as much as he’d like to deny it he is still attracted to Myst and the chemistry/connection they had when they first met is still there. Myst on the other hand however much would like to stay with her daughter and Bas can’t because the brotherhood is still searching for and she doesn’t want them to get hurt. Myst and Bas were great together and when they finally decided to trust each other they had some good relationship development. Though their chemistry was palpable from the start. The book had some battles and twists especially with the leader of brotherhood and what followed made it a interesting read that kept my attention throughout. Quibbles: The weapon bit was a bit predicable and I felt like everyone knew what it was going to be when the keeper talked about it but alas it took them almost at the end of the book to figure out. And maybe we should have gotten some flashbacks or something of Myst and Bas when they first met because they were kind of already in love at the start of this book. Apart from that it was a great addition to the series, made for a good fantasy read with well paced plot, action and some intrigues and now I reallllly want Wolfe and Lana’s story.
