With the price point of new TI Graphing calculators being so close, from the standpoint of cost alone it makes sense to get one of these rather than a new TI-83 Plus, TI-84 Color, or TI-89 Titanium, since this calculator can do so much more than any of those other models. The user interface (in terms of buttons and what is on-screen) of the nspire series of calculators strays fairly drastically from the traditional TI graphing calculators, so if you are buying this calculator for school, you should plan to spend some time out of class getting used to how to do things on it. You dont want to be struggling through calculations when in a time crunch of a test, for example. I recommended this calculator for all serious math and engineering students. Im so glad I bought one.

I use this calculator as a graduate student and professionally in the EE field. The calculator itself is great, but it’s the CAS software that interfaces with the calculator itself that makes it great. The addition of user-defined Python scripts is the greatest thing about this newer Nspire model. It’s worth every penny so you can create user-defined Python scripts for common problems with redundant input directly from the calculators interface.

I bought this for my son for his 1st year of college. He is now in his second year as an engineering student and it is still going strong.

My Son Needed one of these for school. I was balking at paying $200 plus for a calculator, Jreysjore had a used one for a little over half price. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the package- it looks brand new!

Review for the Texas Instruments TI-Nspire CX II CAS Pros: Its a calculator that does algebraic equations. Great battery life. Cons: Everything else. Imagine having to spend double the price for something you already have thats worse in almost every single way. If this wasnt required for school Id just use an app (mathways, desmos, etc) or literally anything else. The mouse pad function is literally the worst Ive ever encountered. The shape, response and feel and click are horrid to use. The build of the entire unit is bad, the plastic feels cheap and the charging connector is over twenty years old (mini-b) so prepare to buy another cable or an adapter to use it with any existing chargers you have. Theres no touch screen and all of the buttons feel loose. The operating system isnt intuitive either. If you want to study for hours so you can figure out how to use this to study for hours, this cheap, hollow feeling plastic is for you. I can buy a cheap smartphone with more power, newer components, better build quality, several forms of wireless connectivity, an IPX waterproof rating, thats also compatible with my existing charging cables, that does an infinite amount more than this calculator. Lets not forget that this is Texas Instruments top of the line unit that came out on July 15th, 2019!!!. Let that sink in for a sec. Youre paying anywhere from $150 USD to $250 for a thing that in every way is worse than other options that are available to you, that are cheaper, and more robust with far more reusability and durability. Also, if you buy it new you get one copy of the digital version of the calculator. If you happen to have a computer at home and take a laptop to school youll have to pay the full price on the second computer (currently over $100) since they dont offer additional device pricing, like most software companies have, and good luck finding any information about pricing online. Its not even listed on their website. If you can find it, go with the HP Prime Graphing Calculator. Its discontinued, better in almost every way.

This is obviously a very capable calculator which is why this gets 4 stars, but there are 2 things that I cant believe passed quality control. First one, when the calculator sits with its back in its sheath on the table and you type it will rock back and forth. I have a cheap Ti-36 that does not do this. My friend also bought this calculator and has the same issue. Second is it only lets you type super slow otherwise it stops recognizing the input, once again my dirt cheap Ti-36 does not have this problem and can accept a far higher input speed. For the money and given that this isnt the first iteration Id expect fundamental things like this not to be an issue. Also really not a fan of the baby blue as the only color option. Mathematically, no complaints, but thats to be expected, this is the top tier calculator. Also needs a higher res screen, its 2019.

This is a very powerful and professional calculator. I have been using the TI84 since middle school, and now that I am almost done with college (majoring in mechanical engineering), I thought it was time to upgrade to a more powerful calculator, and I can say that I am very impressed with this calculators abilities. I wish that I had this going through all of my math classes in college. Getting used to the keystrokes is very difficult and will likely take years for me to feel as comfortable as I do currently with my TI84, but it is worth it. I highly recommend this product for someone that is in advanced mathematics (Calc, Lin. Algebra, Differential Eq, Statistics, etc). I would not recommend this to someone in middle school (and maybe even high school) as this is a very advanced calculator and a lot of its features wouldnt even be used by a middle or high schooler. I hope this helps.

I despise this calculator. As a point of reference, my favorite graphing calc is the TI-89: the terminal-like interface woven into a sorta-windowed OS was perfect. The N-spire is the antithesis of TI-89: I have to make a new document to do anything beyond scratchpad calculations, which only seems justifiable as a method to prevent the calculator from becoming a gaming or cheating device by removing ALL flexibility and ignoring adult users who dont take standardized tests and can game if and when they please. This forces professionals like myself into this pedantic and arcane document system, so we cant just eg. write a quick function and use it flexibly if and when needed. Instead, everything is a laborious set of steps to follow; Even writing functions on the scratchpad is tedious because it only offers half the screen for editing!! Further, I think tokenizing everything is ridiculous and unnecessary; Where variables and functions end up being saved is completely opaque; The touchpad moves the cursor when pressing or tapping to select; And while Im not adverse to thoughtful and functional changes, I dont see why the placement of nearly EVERYthing had to be revised from the TI-8x series: Im CONSTANTLY trying to remember the six or seven steps required to do something that was only one or two steps max two decades ago. But the final nail in the coffin: dedicated ALPHABETICAL keyboard in a region (North America) where EVERY device with a keyboard has Qwerty (and most have touchscreens)! This really feels like a device created by educational elitists that dont realize (or have forgotten) that calculator games were a gateway to a lifetime of programming for an entire generation who now make the devices and apps enjoyed by billions.
