When you can close your eyes, listening to symphony orchestra, and literally imagine yourself being in the concert hall, you know your cans are working.

This Sennheiser HD 660 S isnt as clear and revealing as I expected. Also not super tight and clear on the bass, it sounds a bit woolly. I compared the brand new HD 660 S directly to the brand new HD 650 and the 650 is even more veiled (i.e. lack of highs) with perhaps a bit more emphasis on bass than the 660 S. With my tube phone preamp I I dialed in 50% more bass (+ halfway) and 100% more treble (+ all the way), to get to the sound I was used to with my previous headphones (Panasonic RP-HD605N-T), and I wish I had more treble on tap. The HD 660 S comes with sturdy and 10 long cables (6.5mm and 4.4mm, with a 6.5m-3.5mm adapter). I find the original cables too long and wieldy to use in a desktop situation, and I bought a 6.6/2M Youkamoo 3.5mm Replacement Upgrade Cable from Amazon which has a perfect length, weight and flexibility for desktop listening. (I cant really make any objective statements about the Youkamoos sound quality, but when compared directly to the original Sennheiser cable it is at least as good.) Perhaps I need to break these Sennheiser HD 660 s headphones in over time? Im hoping that the sound quality will improve over time, as I am totally not blown away at the moment.

Amazing sound, soundstage, looks, everything. A tad bit more highs compared with my Hd650s but definitely not a bad thing. Can consider it a bit heightened clarity.

    Greater than one week

These were nice headphones, but the electronics went out conveniently right after the 2 year warranty expired.

I did an extensive search of open headphones. Narrowed it down to the Sennheisser HD800 and the 660. Tested them side by side. Thought the 660s were 90% as good as the HD800 at a third of the price. The HD800 had just a bit more open soundstage. Love the HD800 but I would be satisfied with the 660 and if I had to do it again would save the money and be very happy

Amazing neutral sound, vocals are just perfect. The sound is very flat and accurate. Great pair of headphones for music and pc gaming.

After scouring reviews I decided to take the plunge and buy these. When they arrived at my home I couldnt wait to try them. I slapped them on and plug them in and got ready for what I expected to be a thrilling experience. Boy was I disappointed, but please read on. They seemed garbled (for lack of a more technical adjective) in the mid-range. I was devastated. I started to gather all of the packaging material in preparation for the return. Before sealing them back up I decided to give them another chance. I was running off of my home receiver so I figured the problem had to be the headphones, but then I got to thinking. I was running on some version of pro-logic, I cant remember exactly which one. I decided to change to stereo for kicks. What a difference! All of the crappy noise in the midrange disappeared. I got to enjoy them as I am sure how the are intended. I found the sound to be well balanced across all frequencies although Im no audiophile so please keep this in mind. The voices were clear and it had plenty of bass for my taste. The treble was not harsh and almost a bit subdued. They are comfortable and seem to be well made. Packaging was well done. My only complaint is they are a little tight (I have a pretty big head), but I think I can adjust them by bending the band. Im soo glad I discovered the sound conditioning issue. These headphones did great once I figured that out. At this point I can recommend them without hesitation.
