> 3 dayI have heard instruments and background that I have not heard before using these headphones. These headphones are so enjoyable and surprising because it makes listening to my LPs a new experience. I am a hearing aid user. I had to use semi-closed domes to keep feedback down. But this is a minor issue. The reason for the four star review is that the cord is not coiled. I have stepped on it several times and yanked it out of the jacks on the headphones and audio receiver. Thankfully the cord did not break.

> 3 dayOMG -- these are without a doubt the most beautiful sounding headphones I have ever listened to; and, Ive listened to plenty. A firm believer in Sennheiser, I thought I would have to wait until I could afford around $1,600.00 to hear the ultimate headphone, even though I own two pairs of Sennheisers already. These cost me over $100.00 more than the 99s each!!! When I read the reviews that ultimately led to their purchase, I was expecting a very mellow, perhaps dark, sounding headphone. Not at all -- this headset needs only two adjectives -- perfectly musical. As a trumpet player, musician, and audiophile I honestly cant believe the accuracy of these cans. The cymbal crashes demonstrate harmonics and tone quality! Yes, thats right, not toneless splashes. Further, the bass is strong, clean and there is no coloration of tone quality in other instrumentation using those same frequencies. This review has been written after first listen out of the box. No break in. Lastly, I flattened the EQ in foobar to make sure I wasnt hearing boosted bass or lowered treble frequencies. Well, I wasnt. These Meze 99 Classics simply sound gorgeous!! You will not find a better sounding pair of cans on the planet for $300.00.

14-11-2024Ive had these headphones for about a month, and have really enjoyed using them. They sound very clear, and its incredibly easy to separate different instruments and notes. Lower noises sound punchy (again sounding distinct and not muddled together), and higher notes dont sound too sharp. Listening to music on these headphones sounds very full and rich. These headphones replicate sound very well. In my opinion, listening to instruments sounds like they were being played right in your head (obviously this also depends on the quality of the recording). The wood on the pair I received was a lighter color than in the pictures. Not nearly as light as the maple, but more of a tan color. The grain circles around where the band attaches (not sure if that really every differs). The ability to plug in different lengths of cable is pretty handy. Though I wish it was possible to put the headphones in the case without having to take them out (they stick out the bottom a bit too much). The biggest complaint I have about these headphones (which I dont think is a deal breaker keeping in mind the other positives), is that the automatic sizing of the band feels like it squeezes or pulls up just a bit too much. So wearing them for a few hours then taking them off feels like like taking your shoes off wearing them all day, in that you could probably wear them longer, but its nice to take them off. I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a pair of good headphones. I would say if these are in your budget, theyre well worth the cost.

Greater than one weekThese are great headphones. One of the best I owned. The quality of the assembly is excellent. The package is outstanding with a comfy box for headphones and 2 wires and an adapter. Everything is very well thought. It was a wow effect for me when I received them. They sound very good with strong bass. However, listening fatigue can be an issue. I gave them to my wife and she said the same. What is headphone listening fatigue? Usually its related to too much energy in the higher frequencies, which becomes piercing, grating and irritating to your ears over longer listening sessions. But this can happen either due to the way the headphones are designed, or due to personal/psychological preferences and sensitivities. I returned them and bought another pair of headphones and now I dont have this issue.

> 3 dayI have a few audio-technica headphones and they are more analytical. I was wanting a set of headphones that I could listen to and really feel the bass without drowning out the highs and muddying up the mids. These work perfect for that. Just a brilliantly fun headphone.

> 3 dayI stumbled upon this headphone after reading InnerFidelitys headphone buyers guide dubbed The Wall of Fame. I was looking for a decent headphone to use at work - one that was closed back and not ridiculously expensive so as to attract too much attention. My headphones at home are the Oppo PM-1s which are Oppos flagship planar magnetics. I drive them through a Hegel H160 DAC/Amp in my home office while at work I use a Dragonfly Red DAC/Amp. The Oppos are very open headphones and pretty much useless at the office. Lots of noise come both in and out. This led me to a hunt for decent closed back headphones. I didnt want to spend a fortune both because of the attention and risk of damage (ruled out the Audeze LCD-XC and Mr. Speakers Ether Flow C). It came down to the Oppo PM-3s and the Meze 99 Classics. My real complaint with the Oppo line is that they can tend to sound too boring. Everything is so perfectly clear and the soundstage is pretty decent but sometimes you just want them to wake up - at times they are too perfectly behaved. So that ruled out the Oppo PM-3s. I wanted to mix up my headphone collection a bit and I am happy I went this route. This is a very fun headphone to listen to. Everything plays with attitude. For a headphone they have a lot of punch. They do a wonderful job of taming extreme high frequencies and the mids are beautiful. I have been listening to a lot of electronic, classic metal, classic rock, and indie on these headphones. They all sound incredible. So why four stars? My only real complaint with the headphone is in the bass. With the volume cranked up a bit it real tends to get out of hand and flutters. One of the reasons I was drawn to this headphone was for the slightly elevated bass but I just wish it was cleaner. Meze, maybe you should release a high end flagship headphone with perfect bass. Id buy it :).

> 3 dayThis is an initial review after a little less than a day of use. So far I am extremely satisfied with the Meze 99 Classics. I got them to replace my recently sold Mr Speakers Mad Dogs, which were excellent sounding headphones but were big, bulky, and I didnt find them terrible comfortable. I wanted a pair of good sounding, closed-back headphones that could be used either at home with my Schiit Bifrost/Lyr stack or on the go out of just my LG G4. So far these are filling out my desires excellently. The Mezes are exceedingly well made and very nice to look at, being made out of mostly metal and wood. A nice bonus is that despite being solidly constructed from metal and wood, these are fairly light headphones. Almost an entire day of wearing them at my desk at work has gone by and theyve yet to feel uncomfortable or put too much pressure on my head. The sound is definitely excellent, although possessing more of a fun sound signature. Those looking for hyper-detail accurate headphones may not be as interested in these. As Ive been listening to the Mezes as I work, I cannot give a detail breakdown of the sound but I can say that they certainly sound excellent. For someone looking for a fun sounding headphone that can be used at home or on the go, these are definitely a pair worth checking out!

> 3 dayPROS: -Fantastic sound. The base is not overbearing. (I recommend reading the review on Masterswitch, it is spot on). -Very comfortable -Dig the look (a bit funky for some maybe). -It comes in nice package with a great case. CONS: -I dont care about noise cancelling, but these do not provide that feature. -Sound bleeds at high volumes. -Not great for traveling, but these really are meant for home listening with a solid DAC/AMP

> 3 dayAfter a year of ownership, I can truly say you get your moneys worth from these headphones. The only reason I rated 4 stars is that the ear pads flattened enough to feel the headphone press against my ear after about 10 months. I have 2 other pairs of headphones that are around this price point from other manufacturers, and although these have the best sound quality, the ear pads on the others has faired well. Even with this, theyre still comfortable for 8+hour days, even with glasses with thick frames. Nonetheless, dont let that one little point deter you from these awesome headphones. The workmanship is admirable and the aesthetics are unquestionably gorgeous.

> 3 dayI bought these headphones (used) on Amazon a few years ago after considering the Oppo and Fidelio X2. While these arent end-game headphones, these are excellent well rounders. Comfort- 4/5; Not as good as the Philips 9500, but pretty good for upright listening. Leaning back, these slide a bit. A bit of compromise due to the weight and materials. Sound Unamped- These are low impedence headphones that you plug it straight into your phone or computer. At first, I was not really impressed. These werent as good as the Philips 9500, but isolated better and looked nicer. Sound Amped- With a good amplifier/DAC- (I used the Massdrop Grace DAC and Cavalli tube hybrid), this headphone sounds significantly better. It sounds uncannily like the Sennheiser 6XX. Excellent musicality and texture. Fairly wide soundstage *for a closed headphone*, but not as much as a good open headphone. Excellent bass. Nice, textured trebles. Liquid mids (with the right source). Isolation- These are not as isolating as the excellent Sony soundblocking headphones. These block sound about as well as the ATHM50 (if Im not mistaken). All in all, they can take the edge off things. While there are better headphones (at higher cost), these headphones are just good enough that I can hold off on getting new ones. In a sense, these headphones have probably saved me several grand in headphone envy. -Matt ps. I can highly recommend the audioengine D3 to power this amp. Its not as creamy or black as the Cavalli CTH, but is noticeably better than plugging directly into a laptop headphone out.
