I actually ordered/bought a different drive (Hitachi 2TB HDS723020BLA642) but was sent this drive by mistake. I replaced the drive that came with my HP PC (it came with the Hitachi 2TB HDS723020BLA642 that I actually ordered). I used the Acronis 2016 cloning feature (terrible ordeal). This Ultrastar, as mentioned by another user/reviewer does seems a little slower--the time for booting Win7 from the Welcome screen to my Desktop screen seems at least twice as long as it previously took, so much so that the first couple of times I thought that my computer/Win7 had frozen up. Whats annoying--and I imagine Ill get use to it--is the loudness of the drive while operating. Lots of that typical rapid clicking, but so, so much more noticeable than with any drive Ive used in the past. As Im sitting here typing this, the drive continually makes loud, short, quick read/write operations; for me this is what is most annoying. I did email the seller before opening and installing this drive, wanting to make sure the seller would address any problem I might have with a replacement drive (i.e., the model I actually ordered) and he said go ahead and give it a try, that the seller would stand behind their drive(s). I only installed this drive yesterday but so far it seems to be operating OK, the slowness and noise notwithstanding. It was such a hassle to get this new and newly cloned drive to work that I am not going to mess with it unless it begins to fail. BTW, I opted to replace my old drive because the Acronis backup software repeatedly reported backup failures due to errors on my HDD; I had to run Windwos Check Disk with auto corrections to get the disk error-free again (takes about 4-5 hours). This occurred a few times; I thought Id better get a new drive before things got worse.

Runs as advertised. Plugged it in as a replacemment on my Raid 10 IDE cluster. No issues at all. Hitachi drives seem to be outlasting my Western Digital Drives. They just work.

What a deal! . . . These Ultrastars sell at premium, as high as $355 each. Nevertheless, you are purchasing the best enterprise-grade hard drive on the planet according to a study. . The definitive research on the longevity of hard drives was published in EXTREMTECH on April 10, 2015. BackBlaze tested 41,000 units in a three year period. The results were very informative. The best was HGST with 1.4% failures. Hitachi followed with 2.0%. Western Digital had a respectable 7.6%. The worse was Seagate with 40%. For your information, HGST, Hitachi, and IBM brand hard drives are the same. IBMs hard drive division was purchased by Hitachi. In turn, Hitachi HD factories and technology were bought by HGST, a subsidiary of Western Digital. . From personal experiences in the past two years, I concur with the BackBlaze study. My 3TB HGST DeskStar has lasted six years and still works - this is a consumer grade, not enterprise level unit. My six 2TB Seagate Barracudas have expired between one month to 1.1 years. My four 2TB WD Enterprise Grade HDs have died between one month to 2.1 years. Three replacement hard drives from Western Digital and Seagate also malfunctioned within this time period. . Before buying, the user must visit three websites. GOHARDDRIVE sells on Amazon, eBay, and its official website. Models and prices tend to vary. In fact, prices change every two-to-four weeks. In October, the Ultrastar 2TB went down to $50. The price lasted only two days, and up it rose. . I hesitated - wrongly thinking that the cost would stay or go down. So, I missed the sale. When the price went down again in November to $50, I quickly purchased six. Like the previous experience, the price shot up within three days. . . ====================================================================================================== . . UPDATE: My experience with these hard drives do not reflect the research. Within three months of minimal usage, five went bad. On every occasion during booting, the units went immediately to check disk mode. The analysis stretched as long as an hour. The bad findings reported lost clusters, truncated files, lost files, bad indexes, and a host of other problems. Luckily, the units were under warranty and replaced.

I do not have one of these specific drives. However, I have 4 Hitachi Ultrastar SATA II HDDs of 750-to-1,000 Gb capacity, which have withstood 5 years of near 24/7 use in ordinary non-RAID applications. As far as I can tell, the drives have all been golden. I am shopping now for a couple more of them for this reason. While my data and programs are not critical, they represent many hours of work that would have to be redone if the existing drives failed, hence I use them for backup functions, mostly. However, I would not hesitate to use them for any role. They are and sufficiently fast for me; near-perfect all-around drives. The SATA II interface is actually faster than the stock SATA I on my old-but-good ASUS mobos (P6T, P5WD2-E Premium), which are good enough that I have no plans to replace them soon. With or without a SATA II/III upgrade card, these HDDs will operate fast enough since I am neither a gamer nor excessively impatient. I rarely feel as though Im waiting for my PCs to do something. Booting up, and loading PhotoShop are about it. Everything else happens pretty darn fast. Thats technical for very quickly. I hope my experience helps someone. Im sold on Hitachi Enterprise drives.

I absolutely love this hard drive. My first one stopped working and I forgot I had a 2 year warranty so I purchased a 2nd one, but once I realized I did have the warranty I contacted the seller and they sent me a new one! 10/10 would order again!

Pros: Is a hard drive. Seems reliable. Does hold 2tb. Fast enough for an HDD anyways. Cons: Hitachi drives are a bit loud and this is no exception.
