Our son loves to collect and learn about bugs and this week he graduated from rolly pollys to a gargantuan grasshopper. Needless to say, I was not a happy mama to have that thing in my house. Surprisingly enough, I felt bad for the dude just living in the bug catcher/house. I decided to get a small plastic aquarium and added this to make i more homey. lol Happy bug, happy son. So far so good.

Unless you can get sand from The Hermit Crab Patch, Flukers is the only way to go for Hermit Crab substrate. No mixing with anything else - its all done for you. Just add Instant Ocean to dechlorinated water and mix into sand to get it to sand castle making consistency!

Within 20 minutes of replacing the enclosure with this brand of sand our little hermit crab was exploring and digging his way through one end to the other in the middle of the day no less. He is so active and is so happy with this sand!

Did exactly what its not supposed to do. My crab went straight into the water. Very wet and will not recommend!! Not sure how Im even supposed to return it now. Just a waste of money

My hermit crabs love this sand! They are always digging and they seem to love being able to hind under the sand whenever they feel like it. It is the perfect consistency and it is great for me because I tend to be forgetful with keeping the coconut fiber moist enough. They seem to like this much better than the coconut fiber.

Im using this for my desert beetles and it works fine for them! Much much cheaper than any other sand you can buy on here. The only thing is if its for an animal that needs to be dry, you need to let the sand dry out for a few days. Since this is sold for hermit crabs, though, its very nice that the sand is pre-moistened. It actually holds water really well, too, so once I get crabs I might use a mixture of this and something else for them.

My hermit crab loves this stuff! I like to give him 4-6 deep so he can dig.
