Carib Sea ACS00223 African Ivory Coast Sand for Aquarium, 20-Pound

My husband and I were sure that this sand would be perfect for our aquarium. It is beautiful, unit it is placed in the aquarium and the tank if full of water. Despite our MANY MANY MANY attempts to clean the sand, the water is still murky. This leaves the tank looking distressed and unhealthy. We have tried everything, including complete water changes, to address the situation. We wanted this product to live up to our expectations, unfortunately it was a disappointment. We are now looking to purchase a gravel or pebble for our tank.

Been doing the aquarium thing for a while now. You can count on Fluval and Carib Sea for quality. This gravel looks good and keeps PH high which Cichlids need. Carib Sea is going to have something that will work and look great no matter what kind of aquarium and what kind of fish you have.

I separated each bag in sections of 4-5x and cleaned small sections at a time. Im glad I read previous reviews about cleaning it. It looks great in my 60 gallon tank. I havent add fish in it yet.

Great looking. From cichlids habitat and they love playing with it - digging out little hiding spaces and tunnels.

Wasnt too happy the sand was leaking all over the post office floor, as well as the walk home with 40lbs each trip. Luckily 3 bags were good. Hoping for a refund on 4th bag as i lost most of it walking home and on the post office floor

Works and looks great in the tank

Glad Im not the only one who has had this issue. I thought maybe that was just how it was but now that I have done more research I realize sometimes you get good sand and sometimes you get garbage like this. I am now in the process of slowly removing cup by cup of this black gravel and replacing with actual sand. I would guess a third of the product is this black gravel and its magnetic. FUN when it sticks to a wavemaker magnet on your acrylic tank.

Very attractive! Nice quality, rinsed well, perfect size, my African Cichlids love to dig in it. Nice density, not too much waste penetrates this, makes for easier vacuuming.
