Greater than one weekI have a workstation where I run real applications, so I was very interested in using crositini/linux and ssh -X with a chromebook to have a cheap mobile laptop. The touchscreen and tablet form factor seemed worth trying out as well. Im completely satisfied on both fronts. 80+% of what I do I can do natively on the Chromebook (email, office apps, etc), and indeed the linux VM does everything I hoped it would. I really like having a touch-screen and stylus for taking notes on. The battery life is excellent but its only a month old. Even if I forget to plug it in overnight, I can usually go the second day just fine if Im careful with it. But I easily get a full days work out of it on a full charge even heavy use with the screen full-bright.

> 3 dayThis is my first Chromebook, so my review is about the hardware not the OS. Everything worked fine from the start up. The screen was a lower resolution than what Im used to, but I was able to use it just fine. My only complaint is after learning to use Chrome OS I decided to reset it so everything was fresh, and the touch screen stopped working. I Tried several fixes and still no touchscreen.

> 3 dayYes, Pixelbooks are super-expensive as they can be had for about twice the price of Acers but I would seriously consider Googles if I could afford it for the following reasons:

> 3 dayUnless you are a computer genius save your money. You cant use word, its hard as f$@% to save files, editing pictures is almost impossible unless you buy new software, of course it has to be theirs. Google has spent a lifetime trying to corner the market on computers and now they have figured it out. Oh, and of course there is no manuel so you can ask for help but good luck figuring out what its telling you. I would save your money because now I am going to have to buy another laptop that is compatible with word

> 3 dayWhat you need to decide is if you plan to use any apps or programs on this computer. If you do, DO NOT PURCHASE. I initially got this as an interim computer until I was able to purchase a desktop that I really wanted. This is fine for basic internet surfing or checking email. However, a majority of popular apps and software are not useable on this computer simply because they are not built for this OS and it does not appear that anyone is planning to make the apps or software compatible any time soon (we’ve already owned this laptop for about a year). We did not notice until we needed to try to hold video conferences with work or tried to have video game nights with friends. Even my simple portable scanner software cannot work with this laptop. So for your own sake, please really think through what you may want to use this computer for before you purchase. The price tag is nice with sales but if this is your only computer, it’s likely not going to be worth the headaches.
