> 3 dayMy son bent a piece in half with his bare hands. He tried to forge one of the pieces into a knife, but it was too thin to work with very easily.

> 3 dayThis is listed as 1095 steel flat stock, but we have doubts about that; it bends quite easily when annealed, unlike the 1095 of similar thickness and size that weve purchased from other sources. Annealed 1095 shouldnt bend at all unless youre using great force. We tested it by heat treating it in the same way we heat-treat any 1095 knife. In a temperature-controlled kiln and correct quenching oil, all at precisely the right temperatures for an exact temper, the resulting blade failed to achieve the same hardness and toughness as 1095 steel from our regular sources. Its well-priced, but Ive noticed that some mystery steels Ive received from Chinese sources at similiarly great prices behave this way--the percentages of carbon, nickel, and other metals can be slightly off. Not sure whats going on there, but the only way I would recommend this steel is as a beginning knifemakers practice steel before moving on to the real thing.

> 3 dayThese steel blanks come shiny (not polished, but free of scale) and oiled. They were exactly 1.50 wide and 1.20 thick (so not quite the 1.25 of 1/8). Mine all had a slight bow to them over the 12 length, but its not anything I wouldnt be able to correct for. All-in-all, a decent product for the money.

> 3 dayThese are good quality steel and are good for knife making or just to use as metal stock for projects. The steel is easy to work with in terms of cutting and forming. 3 of them were perfectly flat, the 4th was not. It can be bent back flat, but it tends to spring back to the curve pretty easily. I guess thats an indicator that the steel is good. Its not so good if you want to make a straight knife. Maybe I can find another use for the bent one. I like how they came packaged and were all rusty or overly oily. Perfect packaging in my opinion. Overall would recommend for knife projects where you dont want to scrounge up a piece and just want something made for that purpose.

> 3 dayOverall, this will work for me. Each piece is 1 foot by about 1.5 inches and a little over a 10th of inch thick. The pieces are nice, clean, and consistent and well packaged. Of the 4 pieces one is slightly curved though for me this will not prove to be a problem (I intend to get to making a tail vise mount for my work bench). For knife making, if I have a leftover piece this will make a nice Nakiri-style blade that Ill flatten slightly to end up with a 7 inch rectangular blade. For the price for 4 pieces this a good deal. For someone strictly making knives getting a curved/bowed piece might make using the full piece for a larger knife somewhat difficult. For me this wont be an issue.

> 3 dayWhat can you say about steel flat stock? They came in a four pack, exactly as described. No complaints.

> 3 dayI’m not a knife maker, but I like keeping stock around to make scrapers and blades that can be hardened and sharpened. This is great stuff.

> 3 dayThe good thing about these is that they do come well packaged. All four pieces are wrapped at once in the paper though, so nothing between each piece of steel. VERY light rust prevention oil (almost imperceptible), but it is there. All four pieces do measure 1.500 by 12. They are not quite 0.12 thick, though. My measurements ranged from 0.1145 - 0.1180 thick across each piece. Do not make the assumption that these are 1/8 thick because they are not. two of pieces seem to be quite flat, but two of the pieces have a bend and will require flattening. Overall, I cant say not to buy them for the price, but know what to expect when you receive them.

> 3 dayThe steel was very hard, a good quality file would not scratch it. I ended up having to heat it and air cool it before it was workable. Other than that, it seems like good quality, and was precisely cut to the correct dimensions.
