Very well packaged almost annoyingly so. Metal is very clean, a wipe down with some kerosene and its ready for forge welding.

Package contents as described. Mostly flat, smooth, ready to turn into something useful like a knife. No rust - well packaged in that regard. I was a little disappointed that these were shipped without an other box. They all have a slight bend to them, probably from shipping abuse. Certainly not a ground flat item as received, but these also were not advertised to meet that standard.

Knifes come out to heavy

This is listed as 1095 steel flat stock, but we have doubts about that; it bends quite easily when annealed, unlike the 1095 of similar thickness and size that weve purchased from other sources. Annealed 1095 shouldnt bend at all unless youre using great force. We tested it by heat treating it in the same way we heat-treat any 1095 knife. In a temperature-controlled kiln and correct quenching oil, all at precisely the right temperatures for an exact temper, the resulting blade failed to achieve the same hardness and toughness as 1095 steel from our regular sources. Its well-priced, but Ive noticed that some mystery steels Ive received from Chinese sources at similiarly great prices behave this way--the percentages of carbon, nickel, and other metals can be slightly off. Not sure whats going on there, but the only way I would recommend this steel is as a beginning knifemakers practice steel before moving on to the real thing.

Perfect 1095 steel flat stock for knife making. My son forges with his uncle and these 4 pieces of 1095 steel flat stock were definitely appreciated by both. They used them on a project and said it worked very well.

My son has his own forge and makes knives, so he was super happy to receive this from me. The size of them is perfect for his needs and he said they worked great in the forge.

The steel was very hard, a good quality file would not scratch it. I ended up having to heat it and air cool it before it was workable. Other than that, it seems like good quality, and was precisely cut to the correct dimensions.

I’m not a knife maker, but I like keeping stock around to make scrapers and blades that can be hardened and sharpened. This is great stuff.

Never thought I would be able to get raw steel for my husbands love of making knives, but here you can get everything. They arrived very promptly, and they were exactly what the description said they were. I am sorry that I didnt whip out my calipers to make sure that they were PERFECT...good sometimes is good enough in the forge. Looking forward to seeing what he makes with them.
