Got this XIOBTQT 1095 Bar Stock 12x1.5x0.12in 4-pack for stock removal knife making. First project, and test for this review, was to replace the ~420 stainless blade of a knockoff K-BAR I got back in the late 90s, keeping the original guard, handle, end cap, and sheath. Design is atypical bar stock 12in x 1.5in x 0.12in with a polished finish. Build quality is decent but tiny bit thin, at first my caliper had inconsistent measurements between 0.1200in to 0.1300in due to a bur around the edge, removing the bur reveals this is only 0.1180in thick, but the width is good at 1.5030in and length is good at a tiny bit over 12in. No warps, no tarnishing, no defects other than the bur around the edge. Functionality seems good as far as I can test it, this steel makes a good blade, but Im not testing to failure or doing anything extreme with it. Price point is good, a bit less than similar items, and $1 less than original listing price. Overall, 4 stars, good steel but thin.

Decent price. Arrived with some tarnish on one bar. Two of the bars arrived with significant and visible warping. I am doing stock removal knives, so the warping is a big issue. I will have to try to correct the warping with heat treating.

For the price, approximately 5.50 a piece, its a good deal. Should make some good blades when hardened. It looks like it was stamped or sheared to size and I believe that gave the metal a slight bow. That will need to be worked out before hardening. Other than that, whats not to like, Good steel.

Making knives? This 4 pack of flat steel bars is exactly the material to get. This 1095 stock is 12x1.5x0.12 in size and high carbon that has been rolled and annealed. When I opened the package, I noted it was in three different layers of rust proof oil and paper and then also bubble wrapped to help prevent damage and rust. I cannot imagine a better steel product for knife making or even using it in welding or as a spacer. It is a steal for the quality it brings too.

These were nice and flat with accurate dimensions. They were wrapped in oil paper and were also oiled with a smooth clean finish. Pretty good for flat stock.

Overall, this will work for me. Each piece is 1 foot by about 1.5 inches and a little over a 10th of inch thick. The pieces are nice, clean, and consistent and well packaged. Of the 4 pieces one is slightly curved though for me this will not prove to be a problem (I intend to get to making a tail vise mount for my work bench). For knife making, if I have a leftover piece this will make a nice Nakiri-style blade that Ill flatten slightly to end up with a 7 inch rectangular blade. For the price for 4 pieces this a good deal. For someone strictly making knives getting a curved/bowed piece might make using the full piece for a larger knife somewhat difficult. For me this wont be an issue.

The good thing about these is that they do come well packaged. All four pieces are wrapped at once in the paper though, so nothing between each piece of steel. VERY light rust prevention oil (almost imperceptible), but it is there. All four pieces do measure 1.500 by 12. They are not quite 0.12 thick, though. My measurements ranged from 0.1145 - 0.1180 thick across each piece. Do not make the assumption that these are 1/8 thick because they are not. two of pieces seem to be quite flat, but two of the pieces have a bend and will require flattening. Overall, I cant say not to buy them for the price, but know what to expect when you receive them.

These 1095 steel plates are perfect for making knives or other edged implements. All of the bars were uniform and ready to be forged into whatever I want. Theyre very good quality.
