Tabac Original By Maurer & Wirtz For Men. Shaving Soap Bowl 4.4 Ounces

I recently tried Tabac after hearing its rave reviews on forums. I had a failed experiment with Mitchells Wool Fat, so I was wary of another hyped up soap. Tabac certainly did not disappoint. When I try a soap, Im looking for a thick, but slick lather that is yogurt-like in viscosity and lubricates the blade as it cuts. Tabac fits the bill in spades. The Pros: This is some of the easiest soap to lather. Within a few seconds of loading, you start to see a gloriously slick lather bloom. With a little more work and little more water, Tabac produces some of the best lather out there. It gives me zero irritation and I love the scent. Granted, at first, it was a bit floral, but I have taken to it and find it to be quite pleasing. The scent is prominent without being overpowering. Also, the bowl is quite nice. It fits in the hand well and looks classy in the shave den. The Cons: The only con I could come up with is the price. Tabac is a little steep compared to other soaps like Cella and Proraso, but in the end it is easily worth it. I dont know how many shaves Ill get out of this 4.4 oz puck, but thus far, the puck is very resilient, unlike Cella and Proraso which are softer and therefore get used up faster. All in all, Tabac has a permanent home in my shave den. Ill never be without a puck. Its in my top 3 for all-around soaps at any price point.

Not cheap at about 28$ - the refills can be had for about 20. This contains tallow - rendered animal fat. This is the secret sauce missing from 99% of shaving creams / soaps. This is where it gets its excellent lubrication from. As gross as it may sound, it works. Not like it smells like a can of beef. This smells like a wonderful old-school barbershop shave lotion. I really like the smell. As mentioned, the lubrication is great, the smell is wonderful, lathers well, and lasts. One can of this stuff should last you probably close to a year. So, the economics of it arent really so bad. You could buy the cheaper stuff, but youd have to buy a lot of it, so I feel like the cost is probably about break-even when compared with others. Ive come to find out that I like mitchells wool fat shaving soap a little better, but this stuff is still excellent. Give it a try, you cant go wrong.

Tabac is a solid performer. Classic scent with slick lather that is easy to produce.

I have many shaving soaps and creams and have been wet shaving for about 4 years using both straight and safety razors. This is probably the best performing out of all my soaps and creams. Its extremely easy to lather (easiest of any soap Ive tried), and provides a nice protective shave that doesnt leave my face too dry. Initially, I enjoyed the scent as I found it very masculine and bought the cologne. However, the scent is starting to bother me lately. I feel like its a little too powdery, but its still not too bad. I will definitely continue to use despite its scent and will probably continue to use the cologne randomly.

Doesnt lather very well for a premium product; Very overpriced.

I liked this years ago but now I think it smells a bit too much like creepy old man. The later and shave are decent though.

I have been using this soap for a while and really like it. It lathers well and smells great but thats subjective.

This soap with a good brush creates a nice lather and a good shave. It smells good too! It isnt as creamy as some of the shaving creams I have tried but it is very nice.

This is the most sought after shaving soap in the world. Lathers like a champ, smooth shave every time. I will always have TABAC in my shave den.
