Sennheiser HD 650 - Audiophile Hi-Res Open Back Dynamic Headphone

> 3 dayGenuinely an amazing headphone. The perfect amount of bass. Even the rumbliest groove wont muddy up the vocals. The headband looks remarkably small but manages to fit my massive head fairly well. The only thing this headphone is missing is a wide soundstage. Everything is very close to your head. Even a $150 pair of X2HRs will blow these out of the water in the soundstage category. But the X2HR doesnt sound this good.

> 3 dayThe headphones appear to be of high quality and they are very well made. The bass is not as strong as I would like it. I own two other Sennheiser headphones in the same price range as the HD 650 s, and they both have stronger bass. Overall, the sound is very clean with no distortion. Sennheisers description of the HD 650 s claim that they are made in Ireland, but on the box that they came in it states that they are made in Romania. I dont know if this is good or bad, but my other Sennheiser headphones are made in Ireland and I am very happy with those. Also, in the specifications for the HD 650 s that came with the headphones it states that the sound pressure level is 97 db, but the specifications that I downloaded on Sennheisers web site state that the sound pressure level is 103 db. Overall, I am happy with my HD 650 headphones.

Greater than one weekI did much research on headphones and cables and headphone amps to drive them.I had to do all this on a small budget.I got the HD 650 and the Cardas cable upgrade 15 and took a giant leap and got the Creek 21se headphone amp and the Audioquest King Cobra RCA and hooked it up to the CA Azur 640c v1 CD player and replaced its stock cord with the Audioquest NRG-2 power cord and removed its black RF ferrite noise stopper. Also got the Monster SW200 surge protector with stage 1 clean power circuitry to plug the CD player and the amp in to.Also added three model 2 vibrapods for CD player.Next it takes quite a long time before I could reap the benifits of these combinations. In other words there is a break in period for most of these purchuses. After playing a CD for an extended period of time of about 80 hours Ive reached what what everybodys been raving about; the ultimate nirvana. Its just miraculous the sound quality that comes though these set of headphones. You dont know what you missing just listening though speakers. These headphones are far more engaging. Its worth noting that if you not able to make some of these sacrifices you should look at another headphone. It takes alot of power to drive these headphones and nothing short of an amp just wont do.When all is said and done it set me back about$1400.With this large investment Im thrilled to have years of high quality headphone listening.Update:Four months later:Incredible,Extraordinary,Phenomenal.

Greater than one weekAt 103 dB/mW (from HD650 specs), you need 5 mW to drive them at 110 dB, which is loud enough. Therefore in most cases you dont need an external amp. Though with some expensive external DACs, you can get some qualitative improvement.

> 3 dayIMO, the best headphones you can get without selling your kids. There are better out there, maybe, but youd have to pay more than double - excluding Massdrops crazy offer and waiting periods. The 600s some say are better but not for me, on par with these but these are more fun and to me thats what its all about.
