Merriam-Webster’s Elementary Dictionary

I purchased this for my grandson, 2nd grade. The font of the print is perfect for his age. Other dictionaries on our shelf was little over whelming for his search. This edition miraculously inspired him to search for words to create his own sentences without constantly asking me how to spell a word unfamiliar to him. Great choice. Whew!! Relief!! Independence growing!!

Truth be told, I actually ordered this dictionary for my grandson due to a one star review from someone who disliked it because there was no reference to a homosexual lifestyle or the alphabet soup lifestyle. Now before you go and flame me with the typical progressive name calling that we have all come to expect, I am a small business owner and I have 2 homosexuals, one female and one male, that work for me. They are respected because they are good people. SO lets take this one step further. The one star reviewer makes no mention that there is also no entry in this dictionary for heterosexual either. A typical move of the progressive indoctrination crowd. Here is a wonderful dictionary that lets children be children. As children age, they can discover and explore in their own appropriate time the vagaries of our age.

Would have liked to have a few more features but good hardback book with ease of locating words and font size of words.

I truly commend the colorful layout. The alphabetical colored tabs make it quick & easy to open up the dictionary in the alphabet needed. As an adult, the larger font is easy on my eyes. Im an adult college student and replaced my small Webster Collegiate Dictionary with this one!

My daughter (7 years old) loves reading this. Sometimes she’ll sneak it to bed with her or get up and grab it. I can think of much worse things to get frustrated about. Rate it between easy and moderate. Depends on the person.

This dictionary is nice for elementary kids. Font is a good size for them to read easily and the pictures are nice. However, I have found basic words are not included in this edition. For example, my daughter wanted to look up recreate. All that was in the book was recreation. How do you not include recreate? Basic words and root words should be included to help young students.

I bought this for my nine year old and its the best decision I made, the dictionary is perfect its not small like the other dictionaries and the pictures are an added benefit. The errors previously mentioned have been corrected because I dont see them in this copy and the word compass is spelled correctly in my copy. I would recommend it for anyone searching for a good kids dictionary.

I bought this for my son who is heading into 5th grade and it is perfect. It is extremely easy to use and understand and I wish we had bought it sooner. I expect hes going to get a lot of use out of it and then the next couple years.
