Greater than one weekSo I was contemplating whether to buy a brand new MacBook Pro or upgrade my 2012 MacBook Pro.., i decided to take the second option. I never upgraded any laptop before this so I was skeptical whether I will be able to do it. But thinking if it won’t work and I end up effing up my laptop, it would not be that bad since I can always buy a newer version anyhow. Well thank God I upgraded my old MacBook.

> 3 dayI have an older Acer Aspire One netbook that was running Windows XP but I needed to update to Windows 7 as TurboTax dropped support for XP. I only use this netbook for budgeting software, paying bills, financial planning, and taxes. Rather than buy a new computer or put my finances on the same PC as my gaming, I opted to go the SSD route. I bought the Kingston 120GB (A400 SSD 2.5 SATA 7MM 2.5-Inch SA400S37/120G) in Dec 2017. After some work to get 7 installed, I was off and everything worked perfectly until early July 2019 when windows completely locked up. I waited for a while to see if it would auto correct itself but it didnt. Upon rebooting the drive wasnt recognizable as a boot drive. Booting using a jumpdrive with linux installed I could see the drive but the partitions were gone and I couldnt create any partitions. The Windows Installation CD for 7 also couldnt partition the drive. This was pretty catastrophic a failure as I hadnt backed up my financial database for two months. Thankfully I at least had a backup to rebuild from, though it took nearly a day to get things back to current. What a mess. Im not trying to warn anyone away from an SSD. It made my old netbook with 1.5gb of ram (it came with 1gb but I upgraded it to the max instalable) run everything I needed to. Ill buy another SSD, but I may change brands just to try something else.
