So I was contemplating whether to buy a brand new MacBook Pro or upgrade my 2012 MacBook Pro.., i decided to take the second option. I never upgraded any laptop before this so I was skeptical whether I will be able to do it. But thinking if it won’t work and I end up effing up my laptop, it would not be that bad since I can always buy a newer version anyhow. Well thank God I upgraded my old MacBook.

I have an older Acer Aspire One netbook that was running Windows XP but I needed to update to Windows 7 as TurboTax dropped support for XP. I only use this netbook for budgeting software, paying bills, financial planning, and taxes. Rather than buy a new computer or put my finances on the same PC as my gaming, I opted to go the SSD route. I bought the Kingston 120GB (A400 SSD 2.5 SATA 7MM 2.5-Inch SA400S37/120G) in Dec 2017. After some work to get 7 installed, I was off and everything worked perfectly until early July 2019 when windows completely locked up. I waited for a while to see if it would auto correct itself but it didnt. Upon rebooting the drive wasnt recognizable as a boot drive. Booting using a jumpdrive with linux installed I could see the drive but the partitions were gone and I couldnt create any partitions. The Windows Installation CD for 7 also couldnt partition the drive. This was pretty catastrophic a failure as I hadnt backed up my financial database for two months. Thankfully I at least had a backup to rebuild from, though it took nearly a day to get things back to current. What a mess. Im not trying to warn anyone away from an SSD. It made my old netbook with 1.5gb of ram (it came with 1gb but I upgraded it to the max instalable) run everything I needed to. Ill buy another SSD, but I may change brands just to try something else.

Incredible speeds plus rock-solid reliability - Kingston"s A400 solid-state drive dramatically improves the responsiveness of your existing system with incredible boot, loading and file transfer times compared to mechanical hard drives. Powered by a latest Gen controller for read and write speeds up to 500MB/s and 450MB/s, this SSD is 10x faster than a traditional hard drive for higher performance, ultra-responsive multi-tasking and an overall faster system. Also more reliable and durable than a hard drive, A400 is built with Flash memory. There are no moving parts, making it less likely to fail than a mechanical hard drive. It"s also cooler and quieter, and its shock and vibration resistance makes it ideal for notebooks and other mobile computing devices. A400 is available in multiple capacities from 120GB-480GB to give you all the space you need for applications, videos, photos and other important documents. You can also replace your hard drive or a smaller SSD with a drive big enough to hold all your files. Backwards compatibility to SATA Rev. 2.0 (3Gb/s).
