So, mortising is a fine art that seemingly is lost. I keep some of these in my work truck at all times. We primarily do new construction and I’ve had several jobs where factory supplied doors had a door hinge mortise entirely too deep. These little things are a lifesaver! If you set and case doors, you should have some.

I used them to level my door on an outbuilding.

I replaced the hinges on one of our doors (wife wanted bronze instead of brushed nickle hardware), but found that after I replaced the old hinges the door was about a 1/4 gap on the latch side, and no gap on the hinge side. This left a bit of an air gap and also made the door not close well. These shims were a great solution, since they are 1/16 thick I installed two of them under each hinge attached to the frame to shift the door to the latch side 1/8. Now there is an even 1/8 gap on both sides as shown in the image (I meant to take a before image too, but it slipped my mind, sorry!). Another option is to use cardboard, but its difficult to measure how much a cardboard shim will actually shift the door. And they may not hold up as well over time. These are much better, and they are the perfect shape which makes them easy to install: Just loosen up the hinge hardware, and slide the shim in (if necessary poke it to the required depth using something really thin like a razor or another shim). Then re-tighten the hardware and youre all set! I recommend making sure you have long enough screws in whatever place you install these shims. A lot of hinges come with short screws, but you really want to have ~3 screws going into your door frame so that they are able to grab the actual frame of the door and not just the trim (and make sure to pre-drill too, so you dont split the wood). This will make the door much more sturdy and harder to kick-in as well.

At one time, I thought poor door alignment was a sure sign of foundation problems. Then I realized it was also likely to be a door age/hinge issue; but in an effort to re-align an old door, I heard of a carpenter recommending using a washer between the door hinge and door frame, and I observed cut-out cardboard used as it was falling out of the hinge. I now ask, Why? Why would anyone go to such trouble to make a repair that isnt as good as it could be, when EZ-Ship is so inexpensive and easy to use? The instructions are simple, easy to follow, and within matter of minutes, provide an easy, long lasting fix. I used both a 4 (outside doors) and 3-1/2

I got same model number shown but holes in picture are slightly different and I had to cut to make room for one screw but simple enough. I know many people just use cardboard or something but that will break down over time and result in possible damage due to leaving the hinge loose when it does. These are plastic and wont just dissolve due to weather etc. Only thing I wish is they made a variety pack. The 4 ones generally work for exterior doors while inside is generally 3.5. I have a lot of spares now as only need like 2 of each lol. Good thing they are cheap!

Brilliant. I have installed many doors in my life and used my share of card board. Just bought a used home with doors that need some tuning. These not only worked extremely well, they are a breeze to use. Cudos to those who thought of this and got it to the market place. Cant go wrong.

Had local glass company replace several door and window glass panes. One door had integral molded polywhatever quarter-round stop instead of removable. So glass tech had to saw stop off; during this process he steadied himself by hanging on the door. Tech was pretty large guy, so next day the door latch wasnt working very well, then not at all. These magic scraps of plastic were easy to install and realigned the door at minimum cost and hassle.
