I ordered the item and it came on time. The box was damaged with a big hole in the side. I purchased this as a new purchase. There were signs this projector was used and I believe was returned. The seller Adorama also has a used department as evidenced by their message in their on hold announcement. The seller Adorama was what appeared to be looking for any way to not provide the requested refund. First they delayed the process for a week by saying they have to look into it I will call you back in 3 days. They didnt call me back. I called them and spoke with the first customer representative. After I pressed her for a discussion with their manager She disconnected the call. I called back and got a different csr. After some discussion and a request to speak with their manager again she provided me a return label and I sent it back 3 hrs later. Their customer service department acts more like a customer disservice department. And I dont understand why they do everything they can to not let you talk to the customer service manager. After all, what is the customer service manager for? The projector when working looked great. It was bright and true to color. But it was intermittent at turn on.

I will put a lot more effort into this review as time goes on, however, it takes time to collect the data. The clarity is crisp as all hell and is beautiful. This is also me talking about this while projecting on a non-treated room wall. It will only get better from here. The brightness is great if its dim-lit or dark, but with daylight shining in, youll still want a tv over this. I moved mine to the corner of the room and still use it when the sun is glaring in.

I used to drool over the 4k projectors and think to myself that it will be forever before I am ready to spend enough money on one. I owned the HT2050 until the HDMI ports got toasted by a nearby lightning strike and loved it. I had looked at the newer models from Benq but was not impressed with certain things they took away from them or added to them. I stumbled upon the 3550 just as it was being released and my jaw hit the floor. I finally had time to get it hooked up on a 180 screen with 4K and it blew me away! I didnt want to go to bed last night or work today. Just wanted to lock myself in the media room. I dont think you can find a better projector for the price of this one. My only complaint thus far is that it seems a bit loud during quiet scenes, but I am sitting under it.

Disclaimer: This is my first projector but I am very impressed overall. I was at one time planning on shelling out close to 3k for the Epsom 5050 (which does look amazing) but then I realized I had planned my home theater room without a huge throw distance from projector to screen (just under 9 feet) and I was hoping to use a 110 screen. My fears that the Epsom might not quite have the throw ratio I needed led me to look at this BenQ and Im glad I did. This BenQ isnt what they call a short throw projector but it does have a more generous throw ratio than most other regular home cinema projectors. Im pleased to say that the picture is stunning and the price saving enabled me to invest in a better amp and speakers for the room. I bought a Panasonic 4K Blu-ray player (UB 420) and it looks stunning in both 4k and 3D. It will make you want to stock up on 3D movies. I have a dark dedicated home theater in a basement and I can imagine this could struggle in a room with natural light. They also say this isnt a great projector for gaming but I have hooked up my PS4 to it and had a great experience. To be fair, Im not an online gamer where I suppose the input lag could be detrimental. However, for local gaming (1 player campaign/story or multiplayer split-screen) I dont notice any lag at all, just a big beautiful image. It has a very nice backlit remote too. I have had a few moments where I have had some glitches from the 4K Blu Ray signal and had to restart the projector but that has been my only negative. This issue might be unique to my individual unit though. Overall, I love it and I know you will too if you have a dark room, especially for the price. Update: I have since had several problems, first with my original unit and then with a replacement. Now Benq arent answering support calls or responding to emails. I know we are in the midst of a pandemic but this still isnt good enough for such a big company. Ive lost all faith in the brand. Stay away!

So we purchased this and got a dead pixel a few months later. We sent it back on RMA and got it back a couple weeks later. It worked for about a week and then a different pixel went dead. We tried to just love with it, but then a 3rd dead pixel. We just sent it back off today. The Epson we had never had an issue for 5 years, this has already been repairs twice and still getting dead pixels. I was very hopeful because of the good review, but if you have to send it in every 3-4 months, it really isnt a good deal. I hope they give us back a good one.

Good picture. Some cooling fan noise. But the biggest flaw is the lens cover. Like the previous models, BenQ tethers a piece of plastic that you can use to cover the lens manually. This creates a problem: you have to be extremely careful not to change the position of the machine if it is hung from the ceiling. I wish BenQ could install a simple mechanism that allows the user to use remote control to cover the lens after done watching. Update: The auto keystone is a disaster. Even if you disable it, it is somehow still on, fighting with my manual adjustment. One star now.

Awesome movie projector. Amazing picture Colors. It’s like in a theatre watching movies. Wish they had bundled something for external audio for theatre like audio. I had to do my own setup with wiring on the celing.

I really wanted to love this projector (ordered by my wife from Projector People). Really wish I could have seen the HDR in action, rather than the blocky, yellow-cast images (clearly not working right). After much research, I am inclined to believe my HDR problems were related to the 1.0.3 firmware (AVSForums had mentions of this problem). Ill never know for certain because I was also unable to update either of the projectors I received, neither the original, nor the replacement sent by BenQ. This is perhaps a problem with my laptop? I tried EVERYTHING. Either way, a projector should work properly out of the box; that falls on BenQ. HDR aside, the 4K image is sharp and smooth. SDR colors are rich and accurate. The PJ isnt super bright, but the blacks easily smoke my old W1070 (dark movies look way better). Alas, the HDR problems are deal-breaker. If I could have fixed it, I would have kept it. BenQ was unresponsive when I said I needed help. So stay tuned for my upcoming review of an Epson 5050UB.
