Baby Einstein - Baby Monet - Discovering the Seasons

Greater than one weekMy 16-month-old son will sit still for all his Baby Einstein videos (Neptune, Galileo, Neighborhood Animals, and MacDonald), EXCEPT Baby Monet. After only a few minutes he wanders off to play. This one is definitely geared towards the younger set--not as many concepts or words are introduced as in the other videos. And I wish theyd used more pictures of kids or animals doing different seasonal activities than they used of trees, haystacks (muffins?), and zebras. PS--what is the deal with the Little Einstein promo at the beginning? How stereotypical that the leader of the pack is a white boy and the funny, musical kid is the black boy named Quincy. I would have expected more from Disney.

> 3 dayBaby Monet is miss, miss, miss and hit. There is some gorgeous footage of the changing seasons (where you see a solitary waterfall, or a tree morphing through the four seasons), but the rest of the DVD is a disgusting and painful wail of a flick. First of all Julie Clark gets underused. You briefly hear her little pixie voice, but she never gets to recite any of her whimsical, pretty, poetry. Then there are these less-than-cute zebra puppets. Their day glo colors are annoying. The tall zebra should have been paired with something friendly and small and round--instead of that horrible bird. Colorful zebras bouncing up and down are a bore. The puppets do this dated endless dance with attitude (yawn) toward the end of the DVD that will make you want to throw baby food at the television! The zebras are superimposed over gorgeous footage that gets soiled with their day-glo presence. Most of the puppet jokes are awful (especially the one with the blow dryer). The video has relatively few toys and mobiles in it and the footage it uses of babies looks like a string of the bad outtakes that should have been dumped in the waste can. The DVD also recylces old Baby Einstein music and mixes it with some ho-hum new stuff. For the sake of the series, Disney should give complete creative control back to Julie Clark for the next 3 DVDs, hire Markie Post to do the puppets again, and get Bill W. to do ALL the music. The credits at the end of this DVD are too long. Too many untalented people had their mediocre fingers in this mush of a pie.

> 3 dayMy 18 month old received this as a gift following her recent liver transplant. We are always looking for new movies for her to watch in the hospital, and to and from the hospital in the car. The Baby Einstein movies are usually a sure thing for her, but I think that I enjoy this one more than she does!

12-11-2024Ive read the other reviews, but I disagree. My 1 year old likes this movie. Weve got them all, and she likes this one just as much as Baby Neptune (which is her favorite). I guess it just depends on your child. Looking on the up side, if you child doesnt like the movie, you can always try to sell it on ebay! At any rate, my daughter likes this movie and anything she enjoys I write a positive review about. So, good luck!

> 3 dayBaby Monet is a good addition to the series and is in the familiar Baby Einstein format - adorable puppet sequences kept my 6 mos old and 2 1/2 year old girls in hysterics (similar to pigs in the mud on Baby McDonald, most are very clever). Zebra characters that change colors with the seasons very cute. Heavy on the gorgeous nature footage, as an adult enjoyed that, interested 2 year old more than the baby. Seems they reused the some of same music tract from Vivaldis Four Seasons from other DVDs, but its the Four Seasons so thats fine and reusing music certainly doesnt matter to toddlers. This one was a hit with my kids, and different enough from the rest of the Einstein series that it warrants a purchase ... we have every Baby Einstein DVD and my girls from 2 months on love all of them, even Galileo. Advertising of Little Einstein before the show starts will get to be annoying over time though. Otherwise, a worthwhile purchase. Glad to have something else in the rotation for my 6 month old who watches Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and Einstein over and over ... there definately is something behind the age tags on the DVDs, baby is not into Doolittle, Shakespeare, etc. yet.

> 3 dayBought this for my son. Been playing it for him since he was born. The DVD has a repeat option, helps to keep my baby occupied listening to classical music while being entertained with informative video until he gets hungry or sleepy. Hes now 2 yrs. old & still enjoys watching the DVD while he plays around.

> 3 dayYes, the commercials are crass, but once you get past that this DVD is one of the best especially for older infants. I started showing my son Baby Bach and Baby Mozart around 3 months (along with a few others, but I think those two are thest best for young infants.) Around 4 months I wanted to introduce my son to a little more mature viewing. Monet is recommended for 6 months and above, and it was around 5 months that this became his absolute favorite. At 9 months now, this DVD is still his favorite. The puppets are incredibly cute and funny, the music is pretty good, and the visuals are stunning. It is my favorite to watch also!! I would HIGHLY recommend this to slightly older babies. Baby McDonald is okay, but I am still waiting for Baby Neptune to grab his attention. For babies under 5 months, I think Bach and Mozart are the best.
