> 3 dayOne of the most impressive aspects of The Haunting is that it frightens you without really showing anything. Most of the suspense is built through the use of sound and camera angles. I do wish they wouldn’t have relied so heavily on narration, though. Nevertheless, this movie is a cornerstone of the haunted house genre and it’s one I think more people should watch and appreciate.

> 3 daySimply put, this is one of the best horror films of all time. Wonderful direction from Robert Wise, who understood that what you *dont* see is far scarier than what is in plain sight. The most elaborate special effect is a heavy oak door that will send a chill up your spine. The lighting and set design convey a dark, foreboding atmosphere that never lets up. Julie Harris perfectly portrays a fragile personality coming apart at the seams. The rest of the cast, like Claire Bloom and West Side Storys Russ Tamblyn (Ambers dad} are likewise excellent. Compared to this, the 1999 remake is a crashing bore, with its overblown effects and excellent but wasted cast. The original will show you what a difference it makes when a films creative team has a vision and the talent to bring it to the screen.

> 3 dayI was interested in watching this movie after seeing the Haunting remake with Liam Neeson, which has to be one of the single worst horror movies Ive seen in my life. I was pleased to discover that this version is leaps and bounds better than the 1999 remake. It is also a good movie on its own merits—a spooky psychological thriller. Would recommend.

> 3 dayDont expect a lot of gore and horror. This was the 1960s and Hammer and Columbia pretty much had that market cornered. Well done psychological piece with A list actors. I saw it when it came out and found it to be a solid and frightening ghost story. The remake couldnt even ruin it and I thought it very well done.

> 3 dayThis is one of the best horror movies of all time. The suspense factor is subtle yet very effective, and definitely superior to the re-make in every respect. If youve seen the re-make and then watched the original, you will know that there is absolutely no comparison. The original makes the re-make look like an amateur production and a total waste of time.

> 3 dayNo special effects so some people find it tedious for this age, but if you love a classic, psychological thriller its great!

> 3 dayTHIS IS THE 1961 VERSION AND IT WAS GOOD. I HAD MY DOUBTS BUT THEY WERE TAKEN CARE OF WHEN THE MOVIE ITSELF STARTED. GOOD ACTORS AND GOOD DIRECTOR ALSO HELPED. I THOUGHT I HAD SEEN IT BEFORE BUT I HAD NOT. GOOD MOVIES NEVER LOSE THEIR APPEAL NO MATTER HOW OLD THEY ARE.
