The plug is exactly the correct size. I have found that I need to cut the plug quickly to help the cutter not to burn the wood (walnut at the moment).

I used for my cabinets doors made out of Walnut hardwood. I was able to made 900 pugs easily and the bit feels like very sharp after that. I used my Ryoby press-drill and was very easy to drill 900 pieces. Very nice and excellent quality plugs. BUY IT!- Im a general contractor and used this brand for first time and Im very impressed.

I have a 1/2 plug cutter that Ive never had an issue with. I bought this 3/8 plug cutter and tried to cut a plug. The first attempt didnt leave a usable plug, it tore up the wood. On the second attempt, three of the four cutters sheared off.

Not very sharp and will jump around. Even with a drill press, drill table and an oak wood block very tightly clamped down, it jumped and danced as soon as it entered the wood, creating inaccurately shaped plugs. Basically worthless for hard wood. Might try on softwood for next project, or I might just spend the 5 bucks and buy a pack of plugs online.

I got this along with a counterbore set from Snappy - I was able to sink some screws on the underside of a serving board and then hide the holes with custom plugs. It worked well for me. The plugs I cut were a little skinny but that could have been use error and a little run out on the drill press. Since I was not looking for an invisible fit I was happy. The bit is sharp and cut through mesquite just fine. Walnut got scorched a bit but once I lowered the speed of the press it was fine for me. I am an amateur and your mileage may vary. Buy American.

Although I am using it only in soft wood, this plug cutter quickly and easily cuts plugs. If used on wood of sufficient thickness, it will bevel one end of the plug, which makes for easier insertion in the hole. Note that it is properly used only in a drill press.
