I had two of these drives before buying a third. Ive been using them to run Linux from these external drives on systems which I dont directly have control of internal drives. They are fast enough that I barely notice that Im running from an external drive.

Item was as advertised. Arrived on time in excellent condition.

Decent drive but the speed drops very quickly for big transfers.

2TB of fast storage that basically feels like Ive just add to my laptop 4 time more capacity.

How frustrating that this is advertised as Mac compatible! What a waste of my time. After downloading the software it gives an error message that the device is disconnected despite it being connected. I googled this and found everyone is having this issue and am led down a rabbit hole of having to go into recovery mode on my mac to edit utilities to allow me to enable the extension. No way is this Mac compatible. False advertising! And the Samsung website has no support for this that I could find.

These are nice and compact. It has a metal enclosure which may act as a heat sink. Ive read reviews where some people say that these can get hot but I have not experienced it yet. I have about 5 of these on different computers in the office as a backup. They transfer data pretty fast even on an old usb 2. Ive only had these for a couple of weeks but they seem to be working well. These are great because there is no moving parts to fail.

Just outside the 90 day return window this drive started leaking a white substance (white crystals) from one end of the drive. Googling it, I found this is a common issue with the drive. I worked to try to replace the drive through Samsung. They were wiling to have me return the drive to them for service, but they dont offer any option to send you a drive first. Which means you have to send them a drive with data, and the point of an external drive is to have storage externally. In order to protect your data and ensure it isnt lost, youd have to purchase another drive to copy it before retuning the unit for repairs or replacement. Which negates the utility of having an external drive.
