HTC RE 16.0MP Waterproof Digital Camera (White)

Pricey but worth it especially when you dont want to have to carry a phone to take pics!!

MY FIRST REVIEW :Had this camera for just over 1 year. When it worked it was great. Unfortunately it was unreliable. About 1 month after using it I began to have issues with the audio. It would stop, so I got video without sound. This happened intermittently for a few months. I then returned it to HTC for repair under their warranty. It was replaced and worked fine for a few more months. I also bought the charger base and the additional H20 protection cap. Well it just stopped working and I am 3 weeks out of warranty. This is the second vacation where I have had no images to save. I actually phoned this past weekend while determining that it stopped working while I had the H2O package on in the wave pool. Their rep told me to call back on Monday and thought since it was just 19 days out of warranty that they would allow me an exception. Well that isnt happening. I told them I noticed a few tiny cracks at the base and probably water entered there. The camera was never dropped so unsure how the cracks developed (maybe while screwing in their H2O protection base?) The replacement was out of warranty as they start from the original purchase regardless that I had the replacement for only 4 months. They were not willing to do anything. So two vacations with lost videos/photos, the camera cost plus accessories, and they feel that I was fairly treated? They would not even accept it back for repair at my expense. I even asked who else in upper management I could contact and was told nobody. BEWARE!! As you read others comments you will see that many mention cracks that develop without any dropping of the camera........ maybe something defective? UPDATE: I recently purchased my second RE camera within 14 months. The first one developed 2 small cracks at the bottom of the camera. Suddenly it would not turn on. I noticed these during using it with their extra waterproof accessory cap in a wave pool on vacation. The camera was ruined. HTC refused to help since it was 1 month out of warranty (13 months). They claim that I physically damaged it. The camera has never been dropped. The cracks just developed over time. I researched the camera on Amazon reviews and found others claiming the same thing: cracks developed with no dropping of the camera. I really enjoyed the camera and decided to purchase another. I had already purchased the additional waterproof cap/bottom, a case, and many memory cards, so I thought to give it a try again. On this purchase I bought the extra warranty. Well I just came back from vacation, and while there I noticed a crack in the SAME AREA. The camera works, but after finding the crack I was not about to try it in water. Again, I have NOT dropped the camera. HTC appears not to recognize a problem with their product. 2 cameras and similar cracks that others also have reported?? Its about time that they address this and not assume that users have caused the damage by carelessly dropping the camera. Produce a quality product...... SEE THE PHOTOS OF BOTH CAMERAS BELOW.......................................... BEWARE!!

The following is based on IOS as I do not have an Android any longer to test it out there. Hard to believe this camera can still be found new. I still use and enjoy the two I own; one blue and one white. Note that the colored cams do not suffer the cracked case (at least of all the ones I have seen, and I have seen about 8 colored and 3 white). For some reason the whites are more brittle plastic? Also, the original packaging had the RE displayed nicely in the clear dome case but this may have put a lot of stress on the bottom, as this was how it was mounted and shipped. The one I received had bubble wrap around it to help but I really think it was just the white case material. Note that this latest one I received had no cracks and maybe they changed something on later models. The serial number is a lot higher than my original ones so it is a more recent production model. My white one had cracks so of course it never was exposed to the elements but I though why not replace it now for 60 bucks. I was happy to see this camera arrive in new unopened packaging as I figured this would be a reconditioned unit. Well, maybe if it was, and someone had done the update before HTC shut their servers down for it, I would not have to return it. Thats right, looks like the servers are shut down and without them one cannot do a firmware update on the RE. Let me state this is the only reason I give it a 3 star today. It would have been 4 if not for this. As you might be understanding by now, this doesnt need to be a deal breaker for most people, especially if you never saw the slight changes (dare I call them improvements) that the last and only update they put out for it, gave you. I also have read that on Android it will not connect to the app. I cant confirm it but many negative reviews at the Android Play Store concerning this. At least it still connects fine on IOS and will still use my other cams till till the end!

I am not a happy purchaser of this item the first time we used it in the water as a test...it leaked..and because it was a gift ..and we didnt use it within the 30 day window they dont want to take it back or replace it...

I can not recommend this item. The one I received appears to be defective because it wont hold a battery charge. I am returning it. But I was able to test it out, and I wasnt impressed with how it works anyway. The simplistic design is too simple, and the instructions arent clear. There are LEDs on the front and one near the button to take pictures. The manual says THE LED will go green when the battery is charged. Uh, which one? I guess since I was having problems with the battery, Ill never know. There is also a button in the front, dont know what that does. The app didnt work well with my tablet computer. It worked better with my phone.

Careful when purchasing the camera. Some of the cameras come from Australia and if you are from US and need repairs under warranty, you might have to send it to Australia. and you cover your own shipping......

I have been using these for about 4 years. They are NOT Waterproof! Am I the only one that has had problems? Another major glitch for anyone buying one is the app. I cant sem to find it an longer in the store. Luckily I was able to transfer it to my new phone from old phone . The camera will still work but its so much more usefull with the phone app. The wide angle pix are great but no viewfinder seems to be a problem for people. This is a fun cheap secondary/ tertiary camera to spice up your IG feed.

NO NO NO. Camera works fine as stand alone. Purchased mainly for Live YouTube streaming from iphone. Initial setup worked, the 2nd time you go to connect you WILL have problems. Trust me I am an IT professional and still had difficulty. Here is an important tip: after the initial configuration is complete and working, remember that launching the iphone app is what triggers the camera to turn on the WiFi. Do not try to find the WiFi before then or you will NOT get connected. When tethered to iPhone it is TERRIBLE. Live Youtube streaming barely works even with fast Cellular connection. Overall, give the camera some time to mature the software and this will be a good camera. Wait for software bugs to be fixed.

Love this RE, very awesome and at such a great price. The only thing is that it was damaged during shipping and the bottom piece broke in two, so I cannot use the strap. Other than that, it was a great buy. Great pictures, great video, discreet and waterproof.
