I used my HTP-6 Circuit Detective for the first time yesterday. The instructions seemed simple; however, I went to the web site and watched a video demonstrating how to use it. I thought things were progressing well until I checked the circuits by closing the breakers involved. The HTP-6 was wrong as often as it was right. So, what is the point? Perhaps I have a defective unit. Still, now that I have done the legwork and identified all of the breakers associated with all of the outlets and fixtures in my home, does anyone want to buy a once-used HTP-6 Circuit Detective which may or may not get you electrocuted?

Liked the accuracy of the unit locating circuit breakers in my home. Requires a few seconds of pre-testing to train the unit as to where the electricity (transmission) is located. Works great! Would buy from them again if I needed another unit.

I was a little dissapointed in the lack of instructions. The main instrument needs a battery, but nothing in the packaging mentioned it. The actual use was impressive. Plug the transmitter in the suspect circuit. turn the receiver on, allow it to learn the breaker pannel by hovering it over the entire pannel once, then hover it over the pannel again and watch the arrow light up when it finds the right breaker.

    WORKED JUST FINE

I purchased one of these in 2003. Only difference is the casing is a charcoal/black color rather than blue as the pic shows. It will sometimes sit for 6-12 months before I reach for it again (I take the battery out for storage) but it has always helped me identify the circuit breaker Im looking for. The worst results I ever had was that, once, it seemed to ID two side-by-side breakers at the same time. Rather than fret about why, I just turned both breakers off and the item I was working on was then electrically dead. To be safe, I ALWAYS use a live circuit checker (I call them tickers) to confirm the circuit is off before I proceed. Once when I couldnt find my ticker, I used my voltmeter to make sure the power was off. I certainly recommend this item, but I always treat the circuit as if it were live until Im absolutely certain it isnt.

The only problem I had was when the battery is first installed it comes to the ON state. Turn it off by pressing and holding the the switch until the light goes out, then follow the directions. This worked perfectly. The more expensive models wont work either if you dont follow the directions.

The instructions are very short, but theres nothing special about using this tool. Do what the instructions tell you and itll point to the right breaker. Note: if your house wiring is screwed up to begin with, dont expect this tool to resolve those issues. Thats not what it does.

Works as indicated......I found it best to follow directions and scan fully twice to get exactly the right breaker.

I personally own two different models of this product by this company, and I have sold many of each of the 3 different models made by this company. They work Great. Ive never had any problem. You have to be sure you prescan the panel, hold down the button at the correct time as stated in the instructions, and that the circuit is live that you are trying to locate, but it defiately has saved me alot of time on many many occasions. Great product!

Read the use guide and it works fine. Have not tried from our 2nd floor yet but so far it is a great product.
