This has solid colors and good viewing angles for a TN panel. I would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a 2K HDR monitor on a budget. My one complaint is that the included DisplayPort cable is very cheap and flimsy. It died on me within a week.

Visual quality is great. My main gripe is that the audio from this monitor has to be the absolute quietest I have ever experienced. I dont recommend getting this without also getting a secondary audio device.

I built my first PC this past holiday season, and I needed a monitor with 120+ FPS after years of using a 4KTV with 60 FPS. Ultimately settled for this one as it seemed like a great price point when on sale for the resolution, size, and refresh rate that I was looking for. And it was! Most other monitors would have only had 2/3 of those, or would have had all 3 at 500-600 bucks, but this was a great investment. Only thing I cant speak to is longevity, since Ive only had it a couple months, and the picture outside the box isnt great (but you can easily manipulate that in the settings). Also, the menu button on the back doesnt seem to work sometimes, and the only way to fix that is to hard reset the monitor, but since I dont fiddle with the picture often, I rarely remember thats an issue. Overall, a great bang for your buck monitor.

So I use this monitor for both console and PC gaming. On PC, it looks great. 165hz, 1440p, HDR, no problems whatsoever. My issue resides in using it for console gaming. I have both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. The Xbox can use the full capabilities of the monitor (1440p, 120hz, etc.) However, the PS5 cannot. Since the PS5 has no 1440p support. You can either select 1080p or 4K (upscaled). You also CANNOT play games at 120hz on the PS5, which is unfortunate. Doesn’t matter if you switch the output to 1080p. Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, for example, still has 120hz option disabled. Should’ve done my research ahead of time, since ASUS’ websites states that this monitor does support it. I blame Sony though, not ASUS.

It’s not what you’d expect from a high-end monitor but can definitely note the difference from my basic ones.

This is truly a nice monitor. I read a lot of reviews on various 27 144hz monitors for about a week before actually buying, but have been eyeing this all year and ultimately came back for it. Prior to this I had a Dell S2417DG which is an amazing 24 1440p 144hz panel, but I knocked it over face down by accident LOL. So much for having that as my secondary. Since getting this set up and calibrated to my liking I have happily moved on. The color accuracy is amazing and being that its the same resolution as before, I get a much larger/clearer display with no change in gaming performance or mouse sensitivity... pretty cool I must say. The ELMB-SYNC is nice, but if you do a little research you will learn that it also has its drawbacks with handling lower than max FPS depending on your refresh rate. Since I have an RTX 2060, im not hitting 165fps on every game so when I dip down to the 80-90 range you can see some slight tearing in high motion gameplay. Thats where its up to the user to decide if its bothersome or not. For me, its very minor. You either keep running at max settings and deal with that, lower the settings to get above 100fps constant, or just turn off ELMB-Sync. It still looks good with G-Sync alone, but when you go from having them both on at high FPS to only one of the two, you can definitely notice the slowdown... I think its called being spoiled lol. But, from what I have read and now witnessed, thats where the divide on this monitor is. Other than that, the build quality is amazing, has a cool cable management door on the back that you have to pull off... feels like its not a door but it is, just takes a lil force to pop off. You get full mobility with tilt, swivel and rotation and the base is very sturdy while not being overly heavy. Its a very classy design that doesnt scream out gamer. All in all, for having an amazing IPS panel, 165hz, G-Sync compatibility and ELMB Sync, low latency, 27 and speakers?? Even if the sound does suck... you can hook it to external devices. This is a steal of a monitor for only $400. My old dell was $450 but that was at the time, a good price.

Great 1440p Monitor, perfect 165hz for Next Gen Consoles and PC gaming, 1ms refresh rate, and Free-Sync and G-sync compatible. Horrible Speakers Though.

Received this monitor on Oct 1st 2015. So far it is performing very nice. I have an Asus PB278Q IPS 1440p monitor I have used up until now. I was waiting for a good 1440p Freesync 144Hz monitor to come out that included fixes for the ghosting found in early Freesync monitors. Asus has addressed this problem with their Trace Free settings built in at release. I know other makers like BenQ have recently released new revisions of their products to address this issue as well but this monitor has it out of the box. I almost bought the MG279Q IPS Freesync monitor but too many people were complaining about bad panels on that model and having to return them several times to win the lottery and get a good one. I also like having the upper end 144Hz in Freesync where as the MG279Q topped off at 90Hz. I use 2 Asus R290X ROG cards and they will push over 90 FPS very often at 1440p. Im not sure if the bad panel issue of the MG279Q will be the case with this model or not but the one I received had no issues at all, perfect out of the box. No dead pixels no bad panel quality. Im very happy with the product quality. Now I have this monitor for gaming and when I need to work with photo editing I can use my PB278Q as my dual monitor with its quality IPS display. As a quick test of Freesync. I setup my 2 monitors to duplicate my display and I ran the AMD Windmill Freesync demo on them. I can very easily see the side by side comparison of Freesync compared to no Freesync. I set the demo so sweep framerates I can watch them go up and down between 45 to 65 FPS and see where my PB278Q is having screen tearing over and over while my new MG278Q stays in perfect sync with a smooth display. I have played a few games where I used to see screen tearing a lot like SWTOR , BF4 and Dragon Age Inquisition, they are now smooth as butter. The onscreen OSD FPS that you can turn on with the monitor also helps a lot with seeing when Freesync is working and when its not for specific games. When it is not working you will see the monitors FPS display stuck at the refresh rate you set the game to. When it is working you can see it scale up and down in sync with your games FPS by also having Fraps on or an in game FPS tool showing your actual game fps. In conclusion I am very happy with this monitor, it has taken some getting used to looking at a TN display again. This is the best looking TN display I have owned, but the IPS display definitely looks better when just browsing the internet and doing things on the desktop. I bought this for gaming through and in games you cant really tell the difference between the TN and IPS as far as how the picture looks. The 1ms GTG pixel refresh rate and Freesync from 40Hz-144Hz totally makes up for not having the IPS screen while gaming. By keeping my PB278Q I have the best of both worlds. Update: Recent driver improvements from AMD have added more Freesync support for DX9,DX10 now to include DX11 and DX12. I can verify the support now for Freesync is pretty good running Crossfire as well. I recently upgraded to 2x Fury X Cards which work great in Crossfire and Freesync now with latest driver releases.
