After a week of using, I can say this laptop delivers everything that it promises for a very competitive price! The performance is great for everyday tasks. The speakers are loud. The touchpad is big. The fingerprint reader is snappy. Theres even a 2.5 slot for storage if you ever want more down the road.

I like that this laptop feels solid. Ive compared a lot of laptops at stores, seen the screens and heard the audio, etc. This Acer Aspire 5 does a lot of things good such as the keyboard, audio, and clarity of screen. It is dim to a certain degree, but very clear to the eyes. I went back to another laptop in the house and noticed how clear the Acers screen was in comparison. Its light and comfortable on my lap. The fingerprint scanner is very cool.

Here are the major flaws/deal breakers: This laptop arrived Dec 01 and by Feb 29, the fingerprint reader and trackpad had died. Reinstalling the fingerprint driver from the Acer website enabled me to get that working again, but so far no luck reinstalling touchpad driver. So within 90 days of ownership, Im reduced to using an optical mouse. The unit obviously has a weak internal WiFi antenna, as it knocks itself off of WiFi repeatedly during the day, requiring multiple restarts. Note that my router is located within 3 FEET/1 METER of this unit, so dont tell me its a distance issue. Nor are my other devices (work laptop, tablets, smartphones) knocking themselves off of WiFi. EVER! Please dont waste your money on this laptop which obviously was marketed way before competent R&D was completed. Other flaws that are closer to annnoyances than deal breakers. There is no keyboard or on-screen indicator for either the CAPS LOCK or NUM LOCK functions. Granted, it is quickly obvious if NUM LOCK is not engaged, but think about all the times youre going to lock yourself out of online accounts because you have no way of knowing if youre correctly entering an Upper Case Character in a password. What were they thinking? Did they save a whole $ .01 USD by omitting these useful functions? Cooling fan gets noisy at times. It seems odd that the fan and air vents are on the bottom of this laptop, which is elevated on shallow feet perhaps 1/8 in height. So, technically, there is some airflow beneath the unit, but its limited. Most other laptops Ive had placed the air vents on the side of the unit (where airflow is intuitively greater). This is my first laptop in over 10 years where I fear Ill have to start using a raised, laptop stand with auxiliary cooling fans. Is there a silver lining to this waste of money? Well, between the fast processor and SSD it restarts quickly--which is a godsend because youll be restarting this laptop REPEATEDLY. EVERY. DAY. as it constantly knocks itself off of WiFi. Save your money/sanity/aggravation and skip this in favor of a REAL, FUNCTIONAL LAPTOP.

I will start this review by stating that we use this in a very basic fashion - we do not use this for gaming or even streaming. We use it as a home office computer, largely surfing the web, checking email, online trading and creating documents, etc. So, with this said, those using it for other reasons might have a different experience.

Great 1080p display that separates it from some other laptops. Not the most vivid colors, but definitely above average.

A surprising laptop for the money! The build quality isnt MacBook-level, but for the $500 I paid, this machine feels like a lot more money. The chassis is aluminum and plastic but it has a premium look and feel. The i5/SSD combination in my model is very fast for 99% of the tasks I use it for. This isnt for gaming and with its integrated Intel graphics, it isnt going to run Fortnite but for web browsing and work tasks, its more than enough. The SSD is only 256GB but everythings in the cloud, so capacity isnt an issue. The display is fairly bright and sharp and the keyboard is intuitive and relatively quiet. The trackpad can be a little finicky but I think Ill get used to it. All in all, this is a lot of laptop for the money and Im very happy.

I have been on hold for the second time for 40 minutes, the first time I got disconnected after waiting 30 minutes. The link for tech support on this page is broken, you only get a 404 error. I work on the internet and I really need tech support. My computer starts typing ******** and wont stop. I have tried many fixes and nothing has worked. I would really like to speak with a customer service rep or tech support from ACER. How am I supposed to get a hold of tech support if they dont answer? HELP!
