> 3 dayThe soft pillows of desiccant are perfect for any number of uses where you need to protect items or products from atmospheric moisture. For example, I am a woodturner and I use them in a lidded coffee can to protect my bottles of CA glue. I am also a photographer and use them to protect my storage-bin archive of 35mm slides. The ability to regenerate them in 3 minutes using a microwave is far more convenient than all the other units that I have to bake in an oven for an hour or two. I will update this posting when I have more experience on the frequency of regeneration and the longevity of the dessicant... but, for now, they are 100% in my book!

> 3 dayI was concerned that the bag material might melt or ignite prematurely and damage documents in a fireproof / waterproof document chest. The vendor quickly confirmed the bag was polyester and would melt at 265 degrees which is below the 350 F rating for the fireproof chest. Having the knowledge about a polyester bag, the solution is to place the bag in the bottom of the chest and place a small barrier between the desiccant bag and the documents. Polyester ignites at about the same temperature as the paper so that strategy will maximize protection of the wills and other valuable documents in the unlikely event of a fire where I may not survive. Of course, if I survive a damaging incident then all documents can be replaced. I really appreciate the speed in which the vendor responded to my question.

> 3 dayI bought 3, 1 to test and 2 to use. When in steam over the teapot the color indicator worked, but it was not absorbing water quick enough over the course of about an hour to keep the indicator pink for longer than several seconds. I expected this result as the pack is designed for use in a much larger space over a longer period of time. When put into a bowl of water the desiccant made clicking noises, absorbed quite a bit of the water and the indicator quickly changed. The manufacturer likely does not recommend this treatment of the product, but I like to tinker and had read several negative reviews. I will purchase a bunch more of these and I believe they will continue to work as advertised.

> 3 dayDesiccants are long-term drying solutions. Weve used other (no longer available) ones in local home storage and for international shipping of our clothing and goods. So, how do you test a new desiccant for long-term storage? Placing a soaked sponge in a large sealed plastic container, with both a local and a remote-reading hygrometer, after 24 hours the humidity level was almost 100%. Placing one packet DryTote in the container for another 24 hours, the humidity dropped to the 63% ambient humidity. Checking it, the sponge had been sucked almost dry. After this controlled, 48 hour test, I can confidently recommend this as a working desiccant. How many months and years it will work in our boxes and luggage remains to be seen, but with periodic recharging, these may be better than the ones that they replaced.
