> 3 dayThis radio is fantastic. I was looking for a good price and kept checking around and saw Amazon had this one on a scratch and dent sale, saying that it had a one inch scratch on the back and no original box for $329. So I jumped on it. It looks perfect and works perfect! Thanks Amazon!

Greater than one weekThe BCD536HP and its portable variant the BCD436HP are the only consumer scanners that Im familiar with that can operate in a P25 simulcast environment. Signals on the same frequency from multiple sources cause time delay distortion that will render less advanced receivers useless. You can try all of the tricks with attenuation and directional antennas and they wont solve much. So if you live in a area that has simulcast P25, you youll need to spend the extra $$$ to purchase the Uniden 536/436. These are incredibly feature rich radios, far beyond the tech of last centurys programmable scanners. The downside is that they arent easy to program let alone use the high level features. Yes, you can activate a scanner configuration from your zip code. I consider it more of a gimmick that allows the radio to start receiving after its just been removed from the box. Much of what gets loaded is fluff. Scanner programming software and some familiarity with trunking, frequencies and talk-groups are a must. This information is available. You will learn a lot in the process. BTW, the manual leaves much to be desired. I hope that Uniden has plans to release a less feature rich and complicated receiver line while retaining the superior receiver/processing power of the 536/436. This is the most advanced digital scanner in the consumer market. It works VERY WELL! Youll need to be patient though, and spend HOURS becoming familiar with this radio and the programming process. For those reasons only, I rated this with a 4 stars rather than 5. Im very pleased with my initial purchase and actually own two now!

Greater than one weekThis is an awesome Scanner. If your area PD uses DMR you cannot be without this scanner if you want to know what is going on in your area. I am planning on getting another one for the other end of the house, and possibly a portable one.

> 3 dayGoes offline at least twice a day. Unplugging and reinserting the dongle usually fixes it but occasionally the scanner has to be rebooted.

> 3 dayLike most people haven’t listened to my old scanner for 25 years. Bought this about 2 months ago and inputted the daylight savings time frame, the date and time zone and zip code that I’m located in and that was it. I live in Weirton,WV and also down in a valley and I have it sitting by my chair on the end table with the antenna the came with it and it picks up around 50 mile radius I’m guessing, I think it’s incredible the range it gets with this antenna. Someday I will sit down and figure out the downloading off the internet, but really as far as I can see within a few hours it had picked every emergency system up. Seems like an excellent quality radio if you ask me, I’m no expert though.

> 3 dayFINALLY! A Scanner with the durability of Old, and with the ease of HP-1 Programming! Yes, I do own a HP-1. It is an excellent scanner, but I always thought that the build was just a tad on the flimsy side, and not very durable. I use it primarily as a home base station, as its all plastic, hollow chassis does not make it a desirable choice for extended road trips. Now, the BCD536HP is my kind of Scanner! It practically screams Road Trip! Mount one of these puppies in your Car, Camper, or SUV, and with the right kind of antenna on your vehicle, and it will be the only radio your vehicle will ever need. This thing is built like a Cinder Block, and is just as durable. Of course, you dont want to spill liquids on it, but other than that, it is pretty resistant to road travel, has GREAT Audio, and what could be easier than traveling around the country, and the only thing you have to do to get pretty much ANYTHING you want to hear can be, just by punching in the Local Zip Code! Of course, this also makes a great home Base Station Radio as well, except for one glaring fault: The Wi-Fi Dongle feature is just about as useful as a Zebra on a Bicycle, unless they ever come out with a version of their SIREN App that is PC Friendly. Other than that, this is the most AWESOME, TOP OF THE LINE Scanner Uniden has ever made.

> 3 dayI am a scanner newbie, I wanted something to listen in to local police and fire and air. My experience with scanners if very limited. I first bought the RS PRO-652 from my local RS store. I had a heck of a time trying to program this, I basically used search and tune and entered one frequency at a time. Very frustrating, even after reading instructions. I thought Id order this Uniden after reading how simple it was to program. I ordered through Amazon and got it next day. From the time I opened the package and got it working was like 30 minutes. I put in my zip code and it started loading the area database and I was in business. I even found this one picked up distant radios a little better as well. I returned the RS and havent looked back. I have a Apple iPad and can listen to it using the Siren app and even do some programming and other controls with it. I wish they had the Siren for PC or Android. WIth wifi it should be able to connect to the PC wirelessly. My SSID contains several lower/upper case letters and I was unable to figure out how to do caps lock or lower case. So I created a new one using all upper case password. I still am learning with this scanner but so far it seems to be light years ahead of others with the home patrol software built-in. I am able to pick up radios from two counties away, faintly, but I can hear them. So far Ive been very pleased with this scanner.

> 3 dayI have listing to a police scanner for many of years and when my county went digital then i went a bought a bran new radio shack digital police scanner gave close to 500 hundred dollars for it but unfortunately Once again my county made some more changes where they went to the Tenn Advance system and you had to have a phase one and phase two scanner to be able to pick up my frequencys so once again i had to pay big bucks for another police scanner and i bought the BCD536HP off Amazon i have got to say with out a doubt this is a very nice and up to date police scanner very easy to learn that the radio shack pro 197 I had .but the down side of it all is i have put in to close to 1000 dollars in two scanners in the last 4 years so hopefully that my county want change anything else around because what they did the last time costed them over 20 million dollars what i herd and also herd that before it is all over and done with everybody will eventually have to have a phase 1 and phase 2 scanner because they are suppose to upgrade all counties to that in the near future but like i said this is a very nice scanner i love it have not learned ever thing on it yet but i am getting there Good Luck Scanner World

> 3 dayLike the self programming. Dislike sound quality, attached extension speakers did help. Needs a sound leveling system, some channels come in really loude and others I can hardly hear. Try to find a happy medium.
