The Book of Eli

> 3 dayPretty cool movie. I grew up with post apocalyptic movies and as a consumer of film since the 80s so I am quite anesthetized to movie violence and was certainly expecting it. ***Mild Spoilers*** Denzel is a man with a mission from on-high. I enjoyed the film, especially the bleak wastelands. There always has to be a highway scene where the hero walks past the all the dead cars and peers in at the skeletons and this movie didnt disappoint. Denzels dialogue is spare, but he makes up for it with sheer presence. Hes still looking pretty delicious too--more so--now that he is older. The fighting scenes were notable for not being over-the-top or over-long. Denzels technique could best be described as: efficient. Which is a plus for long-time movie fight watchers who are bitterly all too used to slowed frames, repeated impact glory shots and other martial art cheese that would not begin to transmit what a totally abrupt and brutal thing fighting can be--especially with weapons involved. But Eli is like a paladin on a quest who is clothed, shielded and armed in holy wrath. And so, he does not hesitate or play around when it comes to dispatching people but simply handles it--and keeps on walking. Portions of the ending were cleverly concealed and there is a moment of enlightenment, details of which I shall not go into. Recommended addition to any post apocalypse or Denzel movie collector.

> 3 dayI loved this movie. I never buy movies because I usually can’t find one that’s worth watching twice. I wish they would make a sequel starting with the end and following the young lady on her journey. Very interesting movie and I like that there wasn’t fu’s and sex, that helped keep the main thing the main thing

> 3 dayIve seen this movie before and I wanted to send it to a friend. He loved it!!! The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic time and the main character (Denzel) is on a mission through this dangerous world. He is set apart by his mission, but also by his decency. The film is extremely violent and sometimes very gory. However, it is not gratuitous and is well worth the watch! Watch this movie!!!!

> 3 dayI wish I didnt like dystopic films so much. A very depressing film. Of course, it has a hopeful message in the end. The plot is a little contrived as some cataclysmic war brings humanity so low it must scratch out a subsistence living. In the end, those that survived the immediate time after the cataclysm seemed to blame religion for the fall and attempt to wipe out all references to it. Now, some years into the future, while men of ill-intent seek out these long since destroyed books to use the word against the weak minded, we find ourselves on a journey with a man who is walking the wasteland with what might be, the only copy of one such book with him as its guardian. If you are religiously inclined, add a half star. It is interesting though, to see Michael Gambon and Frances de la Tour form the Harry Potter movies as a seemingly sweet old couple that turn out to quite heavily armed and not as sweet as they seem to be.

> 3 dayReally loved the movie. Denzel Washington was great while Mila Kunis did a pretty good job although I felt some of her moments to be a bit lack luster. The movie itself was excellent, but without revealing any spoilers Id say there are two sides to take on the why as to the finish of the movie. Id say they leave it a bit open, but not so much to make it confusing. Anyway if youre considering this movie, give it it a shot. You wont regret it.

> 3 dayAll the subtle hints that he is blind. Oh, sorry, spoiler. However, they never really point out that he is blind, except for the Braille Bible. Knew a few folk that werent blind that could read Braille. Also for Christians, his name was Eli. You know, Elijah. If I remember correctly, anytime a strong Prophet would appear, in both the Old and New Testament, folk would say Elijah is reborn. Loved the soundtrack. All the cast were excellent. Even the bad guys second had nuances. Weakest cast member was Mila Kunis. Sorry, but her performance just was terribly weak up against the others. I think this movie was too early for her. Loved seeing Jennifer Beals. Still beautiful and put in a wonderful performance. Excellent movie. Derivative, yes. However, with the cast, the acting and the story arc. Wonderful. 10/10... Watched again and again

> 3 dayA friend of mine recommended this movie my husband and I and we just watched it tonight... really good... will recommend to all. Lots of action in the apocalyptic movie and the story might surprise you... not too gory, some blood, but it is an apocalyptic movie, not filled with foul language or sex scenes surprisingly enough, but it was made a few years ago before those things were automatically added to make up for a poor story line... enjoy with popcorn! :)

> 3 dayThis is a great movie and I’m not a movie person. It’s violent and has twists during the movie. My opinion it’s a guy movie on a lazy time to watch it.

> 3 dayOne of the better distopia style movies of the recent past. A completely immersive story line that keeps you interested and doesnt drag. I like most of Denzel Washingtons movies and this one is no exception. I actually watched this one twice the first time I ever saw it because I realized I had missed an important detail the first time through and wanted to see why and where I had missed that detail. The second time through was even better than the first because I picked up so many things and images and symbols that I had missed on the first time watching. Its worth seeing more than once, and I say that about very few movies.
