> 3 dayI was able to make contacts on 10m, but the Bands button is very strange, and doesnt reflect actual radio bands. CW on mine was completely unusable, as no matter what I tried, the first character sent would be a dah. You could get dits in, like the letter N dah-dit, but not A dit-dah, unless it immediately followed. If you left a pause for space between words or letters, it would reset to the first character being a dah no matter how quick you were. Very annoying. I would have loved it if President had put a little more thought into this as a HAM radio (Echo, Roger beep? Seriously?) and not an export CB, which, if were being honest, is what most people are buying these as.

> 3 dayThis little rig from President works fairly well. It has about any feature youd want, and a few (like echo) you might not use. Besides the small footprint, a huge selling point (to me) is the bright display. Its easy to read in even the brightest sunlight (something that cant be said for other transceivers like the 980SSB). I think its because its a light background with dark numbers vs. the 980ssb which is the reverse (light on dark) Ive owned the previous version of this radio (Lincoln II) and havent noticed any big difference between the two, with the exception of the II+ being 12-10 meters and the II only 10m. Power output (35w PEP) is good, and the typical controls youd come to expect (Clarifier, Mic gain, NB, etc.) are all there. If there is someone you dont like to use (Im not a big fan of echo or Roger beeps) - dont use them (at least theyre there). Variable RF power control from the front panel is nice, and even the ASC Squelch works pretty decent. While I could gone on about every feature ad nausem Id like to mention the Clarifier. If you talk SSB youre familiar with how a Clarifier control should work. USA CBs with sideband only have the ability to vary the receive frequency. In the olden days CBs like a 148 or Uniden XL were easy to modify the circuitry in order to allow your frequency to track on both transmit and receive. Today its almost impossible to do that with a 980ssb or McKinley. Default setting is Clarifier OFF. From there you can go into the menu and set it to adjust receive only, transmit only, or receive and transmit. It can be done easily because this isnt a CB radio. So far, my experience with this feature is just okay. Sometimes I set it to tx/rx and power down the radio after using it, the menu setting reverts to OFF the next time I turn it ON ----> but not every time (weird). I have one II+ that holds it and another that doesnt. This isnt a deal breaker, its just annoying. What I do find a little annoying is how the volume control works. With a typical radio when you power it ON and slowly turn the volume control the speaker audio increases smoothly, but this doesnt do that. The speaker audio goes from silence to something I would call 2 skipping the lowest setting. As you turn the volume UP there is noticeable distance you have to adjust it to be able to hear anything. This isnt a big deal in the car, but at home its been irritating because late at night I like a low volume as to not bother anyone else in the house, and I cant get that with a II+ so I dont use it in the house much any longer, only mobile. Ive have two of these (bought from different vendors) and both do the same thing so Im pretty sure its not a defective radio Parsee. As for the origin of manufacture, its Vietnam. These days you have to pick your poison and Ill pick Vietnam over China any day. Presidents attention to a quality build is ever-present and I believe their warranties are the best in the business. These almost always sell for around $249, but last year they were reduced by $20 around Black Friday / Cyber Monday.

Greater than one weekI wanted the Lincoln 2 after seeing it for the first time, was either the Lincoln or the grant 2 i still have my HR2510 which due to scarce availability of parts and finals, i hardly run it much anymore i fire her up every now n then to keep the caps from drying out have always used higher end radios, and the so called 10 meter exports which tend to drift terribly on ssb, have the same cold solder joints or the same cracking of boards constantly as every other model offered with the ept3XXX series boards ranger, connex, galaxy or some backyard or hack c.b tech has golden screwdrivered it to death yanking out mod limiters, massive wattage tune ups, added a worthless swing kit or some new found so called tweak that i have had to go and either remove or fix and realign the tx or rx section or in most cases both, anyway president knocked the ball out of the park with this one, once you figure out what everything in the menu does, and how to move the steps for the vfo she is every simple to operate i like the fact you can change the beeps tone i have it set at 2480Khz close to NASAS quindar outro tone which is 2475Khz so its not too annoying on fm use with a distant station ,echo adjustment isnt as straightforward as it could be is nice to add just a bit for noisy situations to help cut though the qrm, ssb audio reports are crisp and super clean .f.m is crisp with no clipping, AM is a little low which is not a big deal, but its clean, the high cut filter is super nice to get rid of higher pitch static sounds just like my magnum 257 has ,nice to be able to set echo when needed with the talkback then go in to menu and shut it off, unlike my galaxies never been too fond of the asc circuit even with the uniden c.b radios as it can be a bit too strong at times for weaker stations to break the squelch range, all in all it isnt a yaesu, kenwood or icom but she has the potential to make good contacts, with good audio reports on ssb and fm and am with the right antenna setup either as a base or a mobile very happy with this radio every report gas been great with this radio not sure why others have issues

> 3 dayI bought this radio as an incentive to get back on the air after a 20 year hiatus. I had a HR2600 packed away all that time but it does not work any more so decided to replace it with this one. I am not into all of this programming stuff but I am glad that at least it has conventional volume, squelch RF output power, mic gain and RF gain. I am sure there are many that would buy this radio due to the easy conversion to CB but I would not recommend that as it is illegal to operate on CB and also voids the warantee. RF output is as stated in the specs when connected to a dummy load and also to my 35 year old Collinear Ground Plane antenna. There is a rotary control to use as a vfo and also up down buttons on the mic to change frequency. The noise blanker is effective. The internal speaker is effective in an relatively quiet area and there is provision for a plug in external speaker if desired. I got good reports on the transmit audio and the receive sensitivity is very good as well. For the most part the comprehensive instruction manual is rather straight forward but I am still trying to figure out how to set up the PL tone and offset for FM repeater operation. I used this radio for field day 2020 operating as a 1D station and for the most part if I could hear em I could work em with this radio. Of course band conditions will dictate what kind of results you will get. I would not suggest buying this radio for use on Citizen Band ( CB ) . If you want to be on CB buy a type accepted CB radio ( for a lot less money ) and be legal about it.

> 3 dayThere is a surprising amount of control for this radio. The receive is extremely sensitive and the high cut filter works really well. For mobile use, the antenna noise limiter and noise blanker are really, really, good. However, I only used it mobile once. It is now a home unit that is powered with a computer power supply. 30 watts AM peak, 56 watts ssb, and just under 40 watts FM are the power measurements into a dummy load. I am not authorised for AM, FM, LSB use on 10 meters because of my lowly license. The RF gain control helps tremendously during noise atmospheric condition days. It is not merely a secondary volume. The roger beep time comes in really handy for 10 meter USB. I set it to 50 millisecond duration and I no longer have to end sentences with, over, which I hate doing with a passion. With such a short beep set, it does not annoy anybody and It still does the job of removing the, over, from the end of sentences. 12 meters is only receive for me. My lowly license does not cover 12 meters. CW is smooth with no harsh buzzing or hissing, like some CB/amateur radio combinations are. Speaking of CB, there is supposed to be a conversion for CB that can be done to this radio. It may have something to do with the data port, I am not sure. I already have a CB. I highly recommend this radio for anybody. You can be a complete novice, like me, or hold the highest license your nation offers, it is the radio for everyone. Even if you do not have a license, it is an excellent receiver for 10 and 12 meters. From what I have heard, with a small conversion, it will even receive 11 meter CB, (probably not transmit). Some business bands can also be picked up, and the end of portion shortwave. It is not a full HF transceiver, but what a radio for £200!

> 3 dayOverall a good radio. I actually like it better than my galaxy 99v that i had good transmitt and receive...but the ASC is useless so i dont use it if someone is putting a full signal on you it will work fine anything less than a 9.5 and you wont hear a thing So thats something that president needs to address and fix but if you dont mind using the squelch i would recommend this radio to anyone
