I first got custom whitening trays about fourteen years ago - right after I had my braces removed. I have used just about every gel from several dentists. All of the gels have been far less than 35% and of course took a lot longer per treatment (usually overnight) and many more treatments than this product at 35%. And the gels cost SEVERAL times more from a dentist. One can achieve the same results as this 35% product, but it will take much longer, and will cost much more. There is a balance between the percentage of carbamide peroxide and gum irritation, however - and it varies from person to person (the irritation, that is). But here is what I have found. If I floss my teeth once a day and brush them two to three times a day and use a fluoride rinse Act at night, I can use the Opalescence 35% for one hour per treatment in custom trays. Even after one hour, I can see clear results. If my teeth are still too dim I can use it every day until I get the results I want. I know (sort of) if I have over done it because my dentist will tell me my teeth are too white and off his colour chart. I never tell him this, but I think his teeth are dim and stained. (Sorry if that is mean.) My tips: Brush your teeth at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste. Floss once a day and use Act fluoride rinse at night and use THIS gel. This gel is the best I have tried. It works quickly. Short treatment, few treatments. If you cannot tolerate an hour; use the recommended half hour. I dont have sensitivity, but if you do, switch to Sensodine sensitive teeth toothpaste and use the Opalescence less frequently, for a shorter time or both. Also, stop doing those shots of straight Bourbon, because that compounds the irritation to your gums. I vacillate about how often to touch up my teeth - so I asked another Amazon reviewer. This is the sixth time I’ve purchased opalescence 35 from this vendor & it’s legit. Much cheaper than if purchased from the dentist. Very pleased that every batch has had an expiration date 2+ years from date received. Mentioning this because in the past I’ve received nearly-expired or expired product from other vendors. If applied correctly, this doesn’t burn my gums, and I can use it every day (usually up to a week straight) without tooth sensitivity — and I have sensitive teeth & gums.

Definitely whitened. Got some on my gums and it burnt very badly. Turned that section of gum white for a little bit. I found applying it with a Qtip on each tooth worked best for me. Then inserting the whitening trays that you purchase separately on your teeth. That way I didn’t have any seepage onto my gums

Easy application. Invest some money and have your dentist make molds for upper and lower teeth. The gel only needs to applied in very small amounts when professional molds are made. The product does not irrate your gums. Within 3 days the product produces whiter teeth. Do not use everyday indefinitely. When your teeth are white you just need once a week application to remain white.

This product does what it is supposed to and will whiten teeth. It does make my teeth and gums sensitive and I graded down one star for that. And what I hadn’t know in the past is it is supposed to refrigerated! So I can only use occasionally due to teeth sensitivity (and I do use a desensitizer afterwords).

I have used several whitening products over the years, and this is the best one I have found! I love the fact that you dont have to leave it in very long (or overnight) AND it doesnt cause the gum sensitivity that Ive experienced with other products. I typically use it once every 3 - 4 weeks (unless I want a quick refresh for a special event). Im drink 1 - 2 cups of coffee daily, and I also enjoy red wine, and this product keeps my teeth looking great. The consistency is thick, which means it stays in my whitening trays and doesnt ooze out around the edges. (I rated easy to use as a 4 because you need to take a bit of care putting the product in your trays because it is thicker than many whiteners, but its worth it.) I have custom-fit whitening trays (that I got from my dentist years ago for another whitening product), and they work perfectly with this product. I keep this products around at all times -- Im a big fan!
