I was at a range during a pistol competition when a AK 7.62 round deflected off a wood barrier at the top of a dirt berm from the guys behind us. The stray round hit a young man in the back puncturing his lung. He didn’t make it. Several of the veterans present said the vent chest seal would have saved him. I took a trauma class weeks later and this was the brand recommended by the veterans teaching the class. We used them on each other during the class and I lost a bunch of chest hair in the process. I now carry two of these in each car, at home and at our factory as well as in my IFAK. They are a fraction of an ounce each and the cost isn’t important compared to not having them. Be sure to buy at least two for each location you plan to keep them as holes are often on both sides. Be safe.

I am happy to have this pack in my trauma kit. I hope not to need it but I believe in being prepared. We enjoy sports where an accidental discharge could ruin your day. In that event being prepared could be the difference in a good day versus a bad one.

I took a Training at Work regarding how to provide medical assistance in the field using the best medical supplies in the market and during the training the instructors (paramedics, combat veterans and other professionals) talked about a variaty of chest seals in the market and how they formed in the field, and out of the list they showed they highly recommended this product and advised us to buy it. They are instructors that care about saving lives not about advertising a product so I was very comfortable buying this product after my training. This product is folded and makes it easier to make it fit in my medical pouch. I dont write reviews but I believe people looking for the best chest seal out there should know that this is the best product available in the market. For safety reasons I can not talk about my profession and agency I work for. They also recommended QuickClot combat gauze, Israeli bandage, cat tourniquet and medical scissors.

Quality looks to be great, luckily I can’t review how well they actually work in real life, but I feel better knowing they are in the kits I put together for the family cars.

Please keep a few things in mind when wondering if you want to buy this. First this product is not made for any type of wound other than a sucking chest ( a sucking chest wound is any would that creates a hole into the lungs) and in order to identify that can be difficult so any wound in the chest or back that you can hear air and/or see bubbles of blood coming out of is 98% of the time going to be one. If you dont have a product like this and you find yourself needing to give first aid then you can do so by using any piece of plastic ( preferably something sterile but I know thats not always something you can find in a emergency) and some tape. Put the piece of plastic over the wound and tape three sides leaving one open in order to let air escape but not allow the air to flow back inside. After using this product or the method I just mentioned you still need to make sure the person your treating doesnt get to much build up of air between the skin and lung itself, signs of this are lips and fingers turning blue, one side of the chest looking larger than the other , veins starting to bulge and extreme shortness or breath. If this happens remove the plastic or product to allow the air to escape then recover the wound. Now with all that out of the way one of the dangers you need to be aware of when using something like this product is making sure the three vents are allowing air to escape so keep that in mind when using something like this. Anyway I do recommend buying things like this but knowing the dangers that come with preforming first aid. Well I pray none of you ever need to use it.
