Greater than one weekYou *need* IPS for large-format LCD monitors. I found this out the hard way, by first purchasing and returning a highly reviewed Viewsonic TN monitor after finding the graphic quality to be severity lacking, even to my non-professional eyes. I decided to shell out an extra $50 to try out this low-end IPS monitor and am amazed by what I am getting. Out of the box, hi-res digital photos practically jump out of the screen, showing deep shadows and bright colors. 1080p videos plays almost as good as they do on my high-end LCD TV. I also find the 1920x1200 resolution to be better for computer use - the extra 120 vertical lines (compared to the typical 1080p resolution) cant hurt. The on-board USB 3.0 hub is a nice convenience. This allows me to use the monitor as a mini-docking station for my laptop and a charging station for the mobile phone. I have several peripherals plugged into the monitor, and only need to make one USB connection when my laptop is on my desk to make use of all of them. The only minor annoyance is that the monitor doesnt come with HDMI port (Dell opts for DisplayPort instead). I would think a HDMI + DisplayPort set up would make more sense than DVI + DisplayPort, since nearly all newer computers come with either HDMI or DP, and DVI is becoming obsolete. But since HDMI-DVI adapters cost almost nothing I wouldnt call this an issue.

Greater than one weekThis is an excellent 1920x1200 monitor and you cant get anything better for the price. Pros: 1920x1200 resolution, 16:10 ration means more vertical space. More comfortable to read websites, better viewing angles in games, still capable of displaying 1080p video. If you are working with 1080p video, you can see the entire frame, and still have substantial space on the screen for toolbars in your editing software of choice. This is simply not possible with a 1920x1080 screen. IPS panel: while this panel lacks the color depth of much more expensive monitors, again, you wont find anything better under $300. Excellent color depth and reasonably good accuracy out of the box, fairly easy to calibrate if you arent satisfied with the factory settings. Obviously, good viewing angles. Youll never use a TN panel again after seeing this monitor. Only drawback is the problem common to all IPS panels, it is difficult to get perfect black contrast. Gaming use: I mainly use my monitor for gaming. The resolution, color accuracy and flexibility of the stand allow for extremely comfortable viewing in all my games. The 60Hz refresh rate is adequate, it is the standard and you can only get better by sacrificing the benefits of an IPS panel. The input lag is acceptably low for a 60Hz panel (under 1 frame, so you should never notice an input delay). Cons: This model does not support Adobe RGB color space; this is only a concern for seriously hardcore professional artists. Even semi-serious amateurs really do not need to worry. As some other reviewers have said, if you dont know what this means, dont worry. This is the perfect monitor for almost everyone. The newer U2413 has better color depth but costs almost $500, so its really only for people who make money with their pictures. Personal notes: My monitor was great for a while, but after several months I got an intermittent flickering. It also had minor backlight bleed that was only visible in nearly all-black screens. I called Dell about the flickering (expecting them to tell me I did something wrong) and in two days they had shipped me a replacement U2413 (the next better model). I dont expect they often do free upgrades but they will always replace your unit as quickly as possible if you have a hardware problem. I think I lucked out and all they had in stock was the better model. Anyway, no other monitor manufacturer has such excellent, rapid customer service. All of the Ultrasharp line (U-whatever) have a 3-year warranty, which is the best in the industry. Im never buying a monitor from anyone but Dell.

> 3 dayAfter months of careful research, I ordered the Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24 display. Thanks to Amazon Prime, it shipped within two days. The Dell UltraSharp is connected to my Mac Pro and serves as one of two displays on my computer. Image quality is uniformly sharp and bright (you may want to adjust it as the picture is REALLY bright out of the box). There were no dead pixels on my display and the packaging was excellent. The box includes everything you need: DVI cables, VGA cables, the display, and its base. Instructions are included as well. This monitor was a breeze to set up. This monitor has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 and can be easily adjusted to landscape or portrait mode. There are USB ports underneath the monitor and on the left side of the unit as well. The accompanying base is rock solid and sturdy. Tilt adjustments are a breeze. Overall, the workmanship of this unit is first class. Furthermore, the Dell display has a very intuitive onscreen menu that lets you quickly adjust settings like contrast, brightness gamma (theres even a Mac gamma setting!), among other options. I work with graphics day in and day out as part of my job. Im very picky about my display because I spend an obscene amount of time on my computer each day. I have no quibble with my Dell display. This is my first Dell product, and I am very pleased with it so far. And it works great on the Mac!

Greater than one weekAn old 24 1920x1200 monitor died (different brand). After a few days without it, I **needed** a replacement. The Dell USharp is **the** standard for quality 24 monitors. Ive used them at work for years, so my expectations were already set. Based on my reading of reviews across the web, it seems to have the best overall quality/value proposition. I was sold. I have other monitors at home, mostly 1080p, and feel like Im missing 200 pixels from the screen. The Dell 24 resolves that issue perfectly. I like that the Dell power switch has a physical feel and is not logical. That always bothered me on the previous monitor. I did take appart the old monitor to see if replacing a few capacitors would fix it. None of them were fried, so a new Dell was my answer. The Dell feels the same size, thickness, and I suspect is made by the same Asian maker. The old monitor lasted 7+ yrs. I expect this Dell will last that long too. The only thing that Id change on the Dell is to have a USB3 hub built-in instead of the old, out-of-date, USB2 connections. Other brands are doing that, but those also had more complaints about dead pixels and other returns. USB3 is not a major part of my peripherals yet, but it is growing. Overall (with 1 month of use), Im happy with this purchase and would choose the same monitor again.

> 3 dayExcellent display as many customers and reviewers said. However if you plan to use this monitor from a VGA connection, I suggest you use a digital connection. If your computer only have a HDMI port rather than a DVI port, I strongly suggest you include a DVI-HDMI cable in your order. Analog signals are more susceptible to electromagnetic interference than digital signals. When the monitor was connected to my laptop via VGA, the monitor suffered from strong ground loop interference. Both the monitor and my laptops power cable have a grounding pin, and they were plugged into the same power supply alone without any other connections. The VGA and power cords Dell supplied are insufficiently shielded, and a pair of 8 year old VGA and power cords were stronger. When the monitor was connected to my laptop and the laptop power is plugged in, the monitor suffered from severe interference which made the monitor flicker with horizontal lines and was impossible to use. The interference stopped when I unplugged the laptops power cord. After experimenting with all the spare VGA cords and power cords I have, the 2nd best solution was using an 8 year old VGA cable that had ferrite beads twice the size as the VGA cable Dell provided. Also, an old power cord was much thicker than the one Dell provided, and when using it the electromagnetic interference was noticeably reduced when using Dells VGA cable (I tested with a weaker VGA cable so it is easier to prove the difference in power cords). Many people probably dont have spare VGA and power cords laying around. So if you dont have a DVI or display port on your computer, the best solution is to add a DVI-HDMI to your order and qualify for free shipping. You can get it afterwards, but non-Amazon Prime members will be disadvantaged because $7 < $25.

Greater than one weekBought this monitor to be a second monitor for my MacBook Pro with Retina display. At first I was underwhelmed by this monitor, but now I like it, but dont love it. Note that my main two uses for it are photo editing and Diablo 3. The good: - The resolution is the big winner. The extra pixels over HD resolution is very nice - Has a display port. This makes connecting via thunderbolt easy. - Numerous options in the menus for tweaking display characteristics, and I like how it shows the power consumption based on what you choose - Very quick to start up/respond from sleep with no stupid logo screen - The IPS panel ensures no color dithering while editing photos The bad: - 24 inches is huge! I really wish this resolution was available in a 21 inch IPS. That would also have the side benefit of making this monitor sharper - I cannot get the colors/brightness to line up with the MacBook Pro display. I have spent hours calibrating using the OS X built in tool, and changing settings in the monitor. Looks like I will need to use a calibration device that supports multiple monitors.

> 3 dayOkay, whats lacking - there is no HDMI input. Does that matter? Not really, I discovered. I had an Amazon basics HDMI to DVI adapter cable - and thats all it took - and since there are no speakers in the Monitor, an HDMI input would be misleading. I absolutely love having the extra 120 pixels vertical the 1920x1200 offers over the usual 1920x1080 of an HD screen. I can slide show HD pictures without losing the menus at top or bottom - same for movies. I can put two pages side by side on MSWord, and the whole text of both shows up. The anti-glare surface is like the other Dell AG screens Ive seen - and to my eyes, works as it should - I dont have to dim the lights to see what I want to see. The easy access menu allows me quick changes for brightness and contrast if Im in bright room. Did I mention the premium screen standard? Mine had no pixel problems whatsoever - but if it did, I think that even a single bright pixel qualifies for a replacement with the Dell Premium Screen policy. (Of course, you should double check to see if thats still in effect.) The stand - that is another premium feature missing from many other units - it slides up, down, pivots left and right, and will reposition to vertical as well as horizontal - all without having to release any catches or buttons. You just move it, and it goes. Theres actual metal in the stand, too! (Not just plastic.) Of course, the extra pixels and sweet stand wouldnt mean much if the image werent so gorgeous - but it is. I can see colors and details never before visible on my 17.3 laptop screen - and from angles that make it possible for others to see them as well. It even comes with VGA and DVI cables bundled. But, as I said, I use my HDMI to DVI adapter (which I did have to get separately), and it works without a hitch. I plug it into my laptop HDMI output, and the laptop has learned to turn off the built-in screen and automatically switch to the Dell. This is a model that has been tried and tested - and nothing is lacking, unless you want speakers.

> 3 dayHello everyone. So I just got this monitor. I just want to make it clear, that I am not a designer, photographer or someone who, for professional, or whatever other reason is very picky about colors and distinguishing between 96 and 100% blacks. I am a scientist and I mostly use this monitor in portrait orientation (one of the reasons I actually bought it is that it easy rotates 90 degrees -- and it indeed does that easily) for reading articles and writing. I use this monitor with my MacBook Pro connected via DisplayPort-MiniDisplayPort cable. This setup works perfectly for me, and I dont seem to be having problem other people described with this setup (as display not going to sleep, or going to sleep after couple of minutes of usage). Using Macs, I really like the view angle of IPS technology, and this display performs just as well as my MBP display. Color: Little hint for Mac users here, if you go to display setup (on the monitor itself), it does have a Mac profile (it is PC by default). This setup delivers exactly (at least to my eye) the same colors as my mbp display. People are also bothered by anti-glare coating on this display. I can understand that it may bother someone, but I am actually a fan of antiglare displays (even my laptop has a customized AG display) and I find this one very good. I also think that 2 usb ports are handy, but a card reader will be useful too, as other people have reported. Bottom line: amazing monitor if you want to read and type on it (cant say about other applications). Perfectly works with Mac laptops, being much cheaper than Apple Displays (more than 2 fold) and has antiglare coating, unlike apple cinema display. Very easy to set any position you want. That is it for now.

> 3 dayThe Dell Ultrasharp series are my favorite monitors. I currently own 4 Dell UltraSharps. Most / all are typically IPS based (in plane switching) and offer the best viewing angles and clarity. The U2412M is currently my primary monitor. I own one that I purchased about 3 years ago directly from Dell. I decided to replace my secondary monitor (which is a Dell U2311H) with another U2412M which I purchased from Amazon. Out of the box the monitor looked great. The antiglare coating on this latest revision is not as aggressive as the older version I currently own. Colors and text look more vibrant and clearer. The one problem I had (which is mentioned quite often in the reviews here) is a slight yellow cast on the whites. I purchased a hardware calibration tool (ColorMunki Display) specifically to calibrate the new monitor. Even after calibration, I could not get rid of the yellow cast. Unfortunately that meant sending it back. I wished it didnt have that problem since I really like the new revision (mainly due to the lighter antiglare coating). I will be on the lookout for a good price on the newer U2415 model.

14-11-2024Great monitor, IPS is on point. The LED on the monitor can be a little bright if you keep them in a dark room, but its easy to fix if it bugs you. The colors and quality are one of the best Ive ever seen. Ive been running three of these together for a few years now, and I believe it to be a problem with my AMD graphics card at first but I did have some issues driving three of these in Windows. Being a 1920x1200 monitor, almost everything worked just fine but occasionally you do come across a game that stretches or doesnt look right even when proper display settings are in place. Thats probably because almost everything is built for 1920x1080, youll definitely run into times where you find wallpapers for 1920x1080 wallpaper sizes only but its not so much of a problem now. I would have given these monitors 5 stars but there are just a few quirks that leave me unable to do that. There is a tiny tiny bit of latency being that it is IPS and that cant really be helped being that this an IPS monitor so you should know what youre getting into. If I reviewed this a few months ago I would have considered the 5 stars, but it seems that Dell has really dropped the ball with something regarding these monitors because there is an issue with Windows 10 (possibly just the November 15 update and beyond) regarding EDID support I believe, or something where this monitor gets knocked into 640x480 and the only way to fix it is to unplug the power for a bit and replug it in. It sounds like user error but if you search for this monitors model number followed by Windows 10, youll see people having issues with this specific monitor. I believe the 12 in the model number (U2412M) designates 2012, as in this is a 2012 model - so keep that in mind that it appears that Dell has several successors now. For its time it was a star and must have, but that time has moved on now.
