Amazing monitor! It came down to this or an Asus 144hz gaming monitor, and i chose this because I wanted the superior picture quality. Im glad I did. Out of the box, uncalibrated, its a sight to behold coming from an old TN panel. I calibrated it based on some recommendations from tech sites more knowledgable than me and its even more breathtaking. I was worried about ghosting but havent noticed any at all playing TF2 and CS:GO. Diablo 3 looks so vibrant, its crazy. Purchased mid-late November 2013 and I got the A00 model for those who are wondering. The stand rocks (smooth articulation but very sturdy) and the monitor feels huge infront of you (1920x1200 makes a big difference). For the price, i dont think you can go wrong. No dead or stuck pixels. Everything is gravy. Id love to have atleast 1 or 2 more. The only negative think I can say about the entire experience was the packaging. Amazon boxed the dell box inside a fairly bigger box and didnt put enough cushioning material in the outer box to keep the dell box secure so when i opened amazons box, i immediate saw that the dell box had been beaten up and the actual power cord to the monitor had found its way out of the dell box (box packing tape had ripped). I couldnt refuse the delivery because ups had already left, so i quickly set everything up to test and luckily everything was fine. Cant really ding the monitor a star for bad 3rd party packaging. TLDR: Unbelievable bang for your buck, beautiful picture, if youre on the fence like I was, dont be. Games look great.

I have never been a fan of LED monitors. Sometimes the brightness can be harsh on the eyes, but I was pleasantly surprised when I received my new Dell U2412M. My eyes were pleased with the IPS Display. The 24 size is perfect for a desktop. I was impressed with the stand and its adjustability that alone is worth the price, most monitors in this price range have a cheap plastic feel to them, not the Dell. I am just an average user who touches up some family photos, surfs the web. Out of the box, the image quality is fantastic and was easy to set up. There is no HDMI input on this particular monitor, you will have to use a DVI adapter if your PC does not have a DVI plug. For the price Amazon sold this for I can live without an HDMI input. Bottom line, I saved a lot of money and got a Dell U2412M, Best Buy could not even come close to this price. Read the reviews, a lot of people here with technical knowhow explain in detail what is good and what is not so good. I have no buyers remorse....I actually want to get a second one.

This is a review based on my experiences between the Asus PA248Q and the Dell 2412M monitors. I am focusing on the aspects that no specs webpage will tell you. Introduction: I started out with two Asus PA248Q monitors. One fell victim of the known flickering issue, so I returned it and paired it with a Dell U2412M with the intention of using both. However, I am now returning the Asus PA248Q mainly because I discovered that it has more input lag than the Dell. Input lag: I cloned both displays and started a timer which tests input lag and took a photo with a DSLR camera of both screens, and the Dell was clearly faster. I even hooked up my old Dell ST2010F TN monitor and compared it to the U2412M and they were equal with input lag. Apparently input lag is not a statistic that is advertised. At any rate, while the Dell U2412M may have a higher response time than the Asus (as a negligible difference), the Asus has more input lag. When dragging a window up and down, split between the bezels of the Asus and Dell, the Asus lags behind causing a kind of catapillar effect between the two. The adjustable stands: Both Dell U2412M and Asus PA248Q have adjustible stands, but the PA248Q is built far more solid. The base is larger and heavier and does not wobble. Both monitor stands, however, function normally on a stable desk with no difference after the designated adjustment. Color quality: The Asus PA248Q looks better out of the box. It is apparently pre-calibrated from the factory, even comes with a calibration certificate, and it shows; both Asus PA248Q monitors I had looked 100% the same. The U2412m allegedly has a possible yellow-tint problem, and while I feel I may have received such a monitor, I was able to adjust the yellow tint away (when comparing it to the PA248Q). Both monitors have color quality that I could consider completely equal, after adjustment. IPS glow: Both the Asus PA248Q and the Dell U2412M have equal amount of IPS glow, but the Dell has warmer glow on the left and cooler on the right. The Asus seems to be fairly equal on both left and right sides, but regardless, the glow is the same amount. There is a lot of glow, but that is to be expected from an IPS monitor of this price range. Anti-Glare Coating: both the Asus PA248Q and the Dell U2412M have negligible difference in terms of AG coating. Popular opinion claims the Dell has more but I cannot see that whatsoever. Physical Body: The Asus is far more rigid with sharp edges and is fully black while the Dell is smoother with more rounded edges, including the corners of the bezels, and has a gray accent color. The Asus looks more industrial overall. The Asus has some measurement indicators etched into the face of the monitor which I would consider useless considering you would be utilizing a programs on-screen measurements for measurements. This seems like a gimmick that exists solely for the ProArt name that the Asus wields. OSD Menu: The Asus PA248Q has a little joystick to use in the menu, and while that seems brilliant for navigation, it seems to be a needlessly complicated piece for such a simple menu. The Dell has unlabed buttons that are labeled once the OSD menu is open and on-screen and is extremely simple to navigate with no possibility of pressing the wrong button. For this reason I see the Dell having a much cleaner menu and physical set of buttons. Aspect ratio control: the Asus PA248Q has an ability to display 1:1 aspect ratio while the Dell U2412M does not. BUT THE QUALITY IN THIS SETTING WHEN ACTIVELY DISPLAYING A NON-NATIVE 1:1 RESOLUTION IS HEAVILY REDUCED ON THE ASUS PA248Q. When 1:1 is activated and the PA248Q is displaying as such, say 1920x1080, the monitor automatically loses the sRGB setting and defaults to Standard (and must be manually set back to sRGB when finished). In addition to this, the quality of the screen becomes blurrier and a little unstable. It is a complete joke of a 1:1 setting and is only useful if youre either sitting very far away from the monitor or simply dont care. I have had 1:1 aspect control on other monitors that did not have this loss of quality. For this reason, the fact that the U2412M does not have 1:1 aspect control is not a factor since the PA248Qs might as well not exist. Power-indicator. The Asus PA248Q has the option in the OSD menu to completely shut off the power-indicator light on the bottom-right corner of the monitor. The Dell does not have this option, but the light is not intrusive. I would still prefer the option, however. Conclusion: out of the better-packaged box, the Asus PA248Q offers a higher quality display in terms of colors and a more uniform IPS glow, at the expense of more input lag than the Dell U2412M. The Dell is better for gaming simply because of the lesser input lag and the Asus is better for accurate photography editing because of its pre-calibration from the factory, although you can calibrate the Dell as well if you have the hardware. The Asus PA248Q may have a flickering problem (search for this problem and youll see) which is a big defect while the Dell U2412M may have a yellow-tint problem which I seem to have yet to discover. Purchasing monitors is full of risks left and right, with advantages and disadvantages on various models and the possibility of stuck pixels on any of them. Good luck out there. UPDATE: I have purchased a second Dell U2412M; still no yellow tint but the monitors colors definitely do not match and require tweaking settings to get them similar. The Asus PA248Q monitors are pre-calibrated and matched absolutely perfectly out of the box.

Lets start out by describing what I do with this thing: I use CAD software and play games from the same machine. Im not a pro video or photo editor; please understand that Im not. I do not/have not owned dozens of expensive monitors, although I have worked with a few! This things got everything that counts: 1920x1200 resolution at a true 60hz, not 59.754hz. Its got a decent response time; actually, its slower than my last monitor, but I cant tell the difference, even when gaming online. My mouse and internet connection are by far more damaging to my gaming experience, which is to say not much. Games and pictures look very nice on this, and the resolution is a nice break from my laptops cheap 1366x768 gloss screen. The screen itself is good - not incredible, but very nice. The anti-glare coating produces a funny effect that I notice when staring blankly at my screen... In other words, I dont notice it too much. Despite the coating, I find myself turning the brightness all the way up when faced with computers mortal enemy: sunlight. Still, it does a much better job (and is WAY brighter) than my old monitor. The colors are true - by true, I mean I dont have to tweak my nvidia driver settings as much. The blacks and whites will impress anyone whos used to a normal monitor, and probably wont disappoint anyone whos used to a good IPS. Stand quality is good, much better than a cheap monitor. The vertical riser is nice - it travels about eight inches up and down. I really like the stands ability to turn the monitor without moving the base! Very nice if you want to turn the screen and show someone what youre looking at, range is about 120 degrees. The up-down screen tilt is very good, with a powerful spring to keep it from drooping. The good: + Good picture, very nice in this price range. + Well built stand. + Functional, still looks good. + 16:10 aspect ratio (mostly a personal thing). The not good: - Might be too expensive to justify versus a regular monitor. - Not 2560x1600 resolution. Asking too much? Probably. - No HDMI input. Conclusion (TL;DR): If youre looking at this monitor from the average persons point of view: Im happy with this monitor, though I think it cost a bit too much for what I got. Im cautiously going to say that Id buy it again, just because of the 16:10 aspect ratio and the good colors and contrast. If you are actually in the market for a professional IPS panel, please consider reading more reviews first, but do consider this panel.

Where I got this monitor: Amazon Is this my first U2412m: Yes Date of manufacture: June 2014 Revision code: A01 Yellow Tint: I guess? has a yellowish color compare to my primary screen (which is a 13 MacBook Pro non-retina version) I tried varying the color temperature and it is still yellower than my Apple screen. That said, its on an acceptable level. As a side: When I first bought this macbook, I actually experienced the same problem with the new laptop and my Apple monitor, and I got a replacement from Apple but they said it wasnt a fault, its a difference between what manufacturer produces the monitor (I think its LG VS Samsung). So I am happy with my whiter laptop and this monitor is great for me. UPDATE: I just figured the yellow tint was due to the software f.lux I have on my laptop that changes the color temperature according to the time in a day. After I quit the program, yellowish screen is gone. I guess all I can say about that is the Dell monitor displays more reaction to the color temperature than my Apple laptop. I saw a lot of reviews on Amazon discussing the revision and so on. I was extremely stressed out about that, and decided to give Amazon a try since I really needed another monitor that can be in a pivot position. When it got here, on the side of the Dell box, it stated the revision code and the manufacturer data, I guess I was happy with what I got. The stand that came with it is amazing, it can do all kinds of rotation angle and it makes my work station more ergonomic than other monitors (+ normal stand) could have. Just order it and voila, no need to get a separate stand, nor measuring the eye level and pile books underneath it. It just magically works. Seriously, I love it. I searched for some high resolution wallpaper that could fit with this 1200 X 1980, and it makes the monitor ever prettier. The only down side is: I wish they could implement some kind of software that you can adjust the brightness from the keyboard and some sort of shortcut to rotate my screen.

This is a gorgeous monitor. I wanted an IPS monitor for editing photos in Photoshop and Photomatrix (HDR). My 1080P gaming monitors just werent cutting it. My choice came down to Asus or Dell, and I finally went with Dell because of price. Frankly, the Asus PA248Q is probably equally gorgeous. I have tried out both the DVI and DisplayPort and see no difference. Before opening photos in photoshop, I ran X-Rites Colormunki Display on the Dell and on one of my old cheap TN monitors. The Colormunki made a striking difference. The initial factory setting of the U2412M was too green. In contrast the munki made my cheap monitor look worse (low contrast to improve color accuracy, I think). Whatever. It made the Dell IPS monitor look wonderful, and that is what matters. Update: Got my second monitor and it was a bit red. Again, Colormunki fixed it. Out of curiosity, I fired up some games on the U2412M. Common wisdom is that IPS is not good for gaming. Perhaps. Again, I thought it looked fantastic. My eyes must not be good enough to see the alleged light leakage IPS monitors supposedly have. I am pleasantly surprised by the ability to game on this monitor and the 1200 vs 1080 height difference is something I really like. Gaming is absolutely NOT what this monitor is for, but if you play games in addition to editing photos, this monitor works fine. My original plan was to have only the one IPS monitor and game on cheap TNs. This monitor changed my mind. I have ordered a second one and after a few paychecks will acquire a third. The TN monitors will be retired. Update: Third one is on its way! I have no use for HDMI on my computer screens, so I cannot comment on that. I mounted it on a multi-monitor stand, so I cannot comment on the supplied base. I selected this U2412M over a wide gamut monitor because I rarely print my photos. My (limited) understanding of wide gamut is that it is meant for people who mostly print their work. For display on screen, this regular IPS is better than buying a very expensive monitor and then not using the wide gamut you paid for. Should you buy the Dell U2412M instead of the Asus PA248Q? Personally, I believe they are equivalent. When I was buying, the Dell U2412M was cheaper. When you read this, it just might be the other way around. I recommend going with lower price. In summary, I found this Dell to be the best value for my photo editing and am pleased with its ability to game. I am buying more. I highly recommend using a calibration tool such as a Colormunki or Spyder4.

Initially, I was in a confusion which commodities to buy. There were several options for me as an owner of a laptop looking to upgrade for a something better: a large screen dell xps 27 inch all in one. It had several pros for me: Large screen with resolution of (2560 X 1440), powerful speaker, integrated webcam and several of higher end features. Cons were: higher price and pain of owning two computer system. Rather than price, I was more bothered with second cons as I needed a single computer in home as well as in school with all required softwares for my academic work which I might need to access anytime. So, I was inclined towards buying an external monitor to use in my laptop by which I can utilize portability of a laptop while I am at college and feel of desktop while I am at home. There were several types of monitors to choose from. 27 inch, 24 inch and 23 inch and several name brands. I chose 24 inch size as I felt like it is an ideal size to use as a desktop monitor. I had seen the review of this dell ultrasharp u2412M monitor with all glowing review so did not hesitate to buy it. Now I bought it, started using it and I am very happy with my decision. The overall quality of this monitor is quite good. The picture is very sharp, bright and crisp and it is perfectly right size as a monitor. Furthermore, It rotates around full extent as well as easily adjustable up and down position.....so many features!!! Higly recommended!!!

Update -- after using a new adapter to connect to my MacBook (VGA to DVI, I believe), the sleep problem seems to be solved! (I did not change the type of adapter, just swapped one adapter for a different one at work.) So the problem seems to have been in the adapter. I am updating from one star to 5 OLD REVIEW FOLLOWS... THE PROBLEM IS NOW SOLVED! I bought this monitor to work with my Macbook Pro, 13-inch, Late 2011 model, running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4. The monitor works great for a few minutes then goes into energy saver mode, goes black and will not wake up unless I use mirroring mode, which I dont want. I want two screens showing different things on each. Dell recommends upgrading the software on my laptop video card which is so far impossible because Intel only seems to offer windows versions of the software for the video card. So, to summarize, the monitor is really awesome when it works, which is hardly ever. Oddly, it worked well for several weeks, so Im not sure its possible to return to Amazon. I have tried many different ways to solve the problem, including turning off the feature on my computer that puts the display to sleep, playing with all the features on the monitor itself, plugging and unplugging everything in various orders, rebooting the laptop over and over, etc, etc... nothing solves the problem. I hope this information helps Macbook Pro users avoid the problems Im having with this monitor.... very, very annoying when you are busy at work!! Meanwhile my cheap old, small Viewsonic monitor worked beautifully with the same laptop, but the image was terrible.

We have been exceedingly impressed with the U2412M monitor thus far. Without rehashing (too much) what other reviews have said, heres what we like: 1) Aspect ratio: the screen size is perfect for working with documents, excel files, email and presentations. Yes a smaller screen will do the job but the extra vertical resolution is nice to have. 2) Highly adjustable: Dell UltraSharp panels have always been great in this regard, and this monitor is no exception. We love that the swivel (both left to right and horizontal to vertical) is effortless, and that its easy to adjust the vertical height and pitch of the monitor to help you achieve the best ergonomic viewing angle. This has really helped to reduce neck strain for both of us who use this monitor. 3) Great colors and image clarity: Im sure there are professional photographers and others who need nothing but the highest levels of color accuracy, but for normal office/web/photo use this monitor produces crisp, clear, pleasing images which are more than good enough for us. 4) USB side ports: USB ports on the bottom and side of the monitor have been a feature on various Dell monitors over the years. While this feature is easy to overlook, the convenience of being able to quickly access USB ports to pop in and out a flash drive has become a luxury that I dont want to live without. No more having to reach behind the PC, or twisting to reach strangely angled ports that manufactures put on their computers for some reason. Its also great if you keep your CPU on the floor and dont want to have to get down on your knees just to plug in a USB device. As always, Amazon customer service is great. The first display we received had a dead (dark) pixel. Amazon quickly shipped out a replacement and the new one was perfect. I highly recommend thoroughly checking out the pixels right after you receive it. There are helpful test patterns that you can play on YouTube and similar sites that make dead and stuck pixels easier to spot.
