I am a gamer and regular computer user and for me this monitor is just perfect. When I built my gaming rig I had to purchase a new monitor for it so had to get rid of my 24 iMac with IPS 1920x1200 resolution, I said oh well Ill just get this 1080p TN (I didnt do my research on TN and IPS before purchase) panel with 2ms response time ( since it was for gaming this was what I was looking at the most ). Well 1080p felt weird and cramped and the colors were different than my previous display (iMac 24) I thought oh well Ill get used to it, but no I didnt so I did my research and found out about IPS and TN panels. Armed with new info I set out to buy an IPS panel that wasnt too expensive and with decent response time for gaming and of course this new panel had to be 1920x1200. After searching the web and reading many reviews online many people seemed to suggest this monitor and pointed to a review on TFT Central, after this review I was hooked and went ahead and purchased it. If anyone is in doubt about buying this monitor go check out the extensive review over at TFT Central. Set up: I have this monitor connected to a Mac mini through display port and my gaming PC connected through DVI. Both work great with excellent color and image quality, the monitor wakes fast from sleep and goes to sleep fast when device is off compared to my previous panel. Pros: e-IPS Panel (Beautiful colors compared to TN panels) Price (Compared to other IPS panels this is a steal) Resolution (1920x1200 is simply better than 1080p, for TVs 1080p is fine but for computer monitors those extra 120 pixels do wonders) No ghosting or input lag ( I didnt see a difference in input lag between this and my previous 2ms response time TN panel) Adjustable ( This monitors adjusts up, down, tilt, swivel, etc.) LED ( Thinner, lighter, disperses less heat, consumes less power ) Cons: Small light bleed on one of the corners ( This is very small and noticeable only when the screen is completely dark, this may vary with each monitor ) No HDMI ( This monitor does not have an HDMI connection, so if HDMI is a must for you this may be a problem) Final thoughts: This monitor is good for someone that wants a monitor to game and regular computer use with great colors and quality. The price is really good for the quality and resolution that you get and I would definitely recommend this monitor.

After shopping for a new monitor, this is my third that Ive ordered from different places, second of this model. Finally! Ive found something I can keep. The model I received from amazon is in 96% perfect condition. Stable base (which was actually why I had to return the previous model), no backlight bleeding, the monitor is very bright, so I have the brightness turned down to 30 or so, which is great. The IPS viewing angles are fantastic compared to other IPS displays Ive seen. The only problem is that when I have totally black screens, like end credits or something, there is the slightest vertical streak on far right side of the screen. its very thin, less than 4mm across, and the pixels are good, just slightly slightly greyed out? I never actually see this error unless its a totally black screen. Also, its so far to the right, Im never really looking over there. 24 is a pretty big screen! Other than that, its perfect. No issues in my 4 days of ownership. Oh, but I would advise to just go to the Dell site to get the drivers for the monitor, the disk didnt find the monitor when I put it in. Downloading the drivers works perfectly.

This monitor is a replacement for my 8 year old Samsung 213t. I was very happy with that monitor, and it lasted me through four computer upgrades since I originally purchased it in 2004. However, recently I had been wanting to move up to 1920x1200 for a little more space for my documents and software development tools. After one day of use, the U2412M seems to be an excellent replacement. Its much lighter than the 213t, and it runs much cooler due to the more energy-efficient LED backlighting. I will have to let others speak to the color accuracy, which I understand is generally pretty good for most purposes. From my relatively novice perspective it feels colder than my old Samsung, which perhaps is a result of the new monitor having whiter whites and less actual heat radiating from the front of the display. In any case, it does have a slightly different feel... not better or worse, but different. Pros: * Full-height 1920x1200 * Anti-glare coating (comparable to other anti-glare screens Ive used) * Good colors, seems to be best at 35 brightness * VESA mount for use on standard monitor arms and stands * LED backlight runs cool and is very power-efficient Cons: * Would be nice to have an SD card reader (not a big deal) I purchased this item directly from Amazon and it has zero dead or bright pixels that I can see. For those who care about this, they didnt double-box for shipment, but with Prime shipping via UPS it arrived with no damage.

monitor goes to sleep before the installer CD can do anything usefull setup instructions are uselss for installing any software or doing setup - all it says is to how to assemble it so much for DELL!! Dell tech support was in India I think - its Albion - they were clueless this is the only monitor I have ever had problems with I have a new ASUS Essentio Windows 8 Pc always in the past a video card would treat a new monitor ok - at least working in basic mode - not this time after much computer voodoo and plugging and unplugging and trying ito other pcs and rebooting it finally worked - I have no idea what did the trick due to this frustration it only gets 4 stars today the monitor itself seems ok now that its responding to the PC. 24 is a good size for sorting photos and doing simple editing. on a side note - I am quite pleased at the font sizes with this monitor and Windows 8. A pleasant surprise for my old eyes.

As a long-time techie, Ive had a problem with Dell since their inception. Bad service, bad products, everything you wouldnt want in a company. Ive always avoided their products over the years. So it pains me to say that these monitors are top notch. The manufacture date is Sept 2012, not some random month last year. Initial product launch was early last year, so I was hesitant of getting something that has been sitting in a warehouse for almost two years. Five stars to the seller for this. The reviews here are what swayed me (that and Dell uses the same panels as other big names like Sony/Samsung, etc.), so I figured...the resolution is what I wanted, the price point is what I wanted, and looking at unrelated Dell products, the reviews have gotten a lot better, so I went for it. Crisp, clear, no dead pixels, they look fine out of the box compared to my two 24 Samsungs that Ive calibrated. Ill still have to go over the settings, just like any other monitor. Bezels are clean and slim. Solid construction throughout. Packed well. I bought two, and mounted them on a dual monitor stand I picked up [...] (5 stars to this product too, by the way) These monitors are for programming, so the 8ms G2G is not a concern. No photo/video editing, no games. _________________ Update 2/16/2013: I bought these last November, and Ive had them on 24/7 (with sleep mode). Every day I look forward to working on the computer with these monitors. They are just fantastic. Im adding a user-photo to show them installed.

My old TN/gamer LCD died recently and I needed a 2nd monitor to go with my LP2475w for Lightroom & Photoshop photo editing. When I first received the Dell, I plugged it in and assumed the Win 7Pro drivers would be sufficient. I calibrated it (with a Spyder3 Pro) and it looked great... for a few minutes. It kept going out of calibration and presenting with a reddish hue, notably on the mouse pointer when over a white background. The CD that came with the monitor was pretty useless. I dont know why, but I wasnt able to get anything to install from it. Probably just me not understanding the interface. I eventually downloaded the driver for the monitor from the Dell website, and now its working like I expected it to. Its holding calibration just fine and it looks great. My HP monitor has a bit more color range - and since I shoot & print via Adobe RGB, I will still probably do my final edits on the HP, but the Dell is 97% as good. Its great being able to run Lightroom in a 2-monitor setup when reviewing a couple nights worth of high school basketball photos to send off to my editor. Im not a big gamer anymore (Civ and Skyrim sometimes) so I cant speak to the refresh rate needed for high-end gaming. But for photo editing, this monitor is an amazing value for the price!

We have been exceedingly impressed with the U2412M monitor thus far. Without rehashing (too much) what other reviews have said, heres what we like: 1) Aspect ratio: the screen size is perfect for working with documents, excel files, email and presentations. Yes a smaller screen will do the job but the extra vertical resolution is nice to have. 2) Highly adjustable: Dell UltraSharp panels have always been great in this regard, and this monitor is no exception. We love that the swivel (both left to right and horizontal to vertical) is effortless, and that its easy to adjust the vertical height and pitch of the monitor to help you achieve the best ergonomic viewing angle. This has really helped to reduce neck strain for both of us who use this monitor. 3) Great colors and image clarity: Im sure there are professional photographers and others who need nothing but the highest levels of color accuracy, but for normal office/web/photo use this monitor produces crisp, clear, pleasing images which are more than good enough for us. 4) USB side ports: USB ports on the bottom and side of the monitor have been a feature on various Dell monitors over the years. While this feature is easy to overlook, the convenience of being able to quickly access USB ports to pop in and out a flash drive has become a luxury that I dont want to live without. No more having to reach behind the PC, or twisting to reach strangely angled ports that manufactures put on their computers for some reason. Its also great if you keep your CPU on the floor and dont want to have to get down on your knees just to plug in a USB device. As always, Amazon customer service is great. The first display we received had a dead (dark) pixel. Amazon quickly shipped out a replacement and the new one was perfect. I highly recommend thoroughly checking out the pixels right after you receive it. There are helpful test patterns that you can play on YouTube and similar sites that make dead and stuck pixels easier to spot.

So after weeks of watching, I went ahead and bought two of these monitors for 265 when a resaler (Triplenet pricing) was having a sale. First impressions were good, the monitors had a simplistic, utilitarian design I especially liked and the stands seemed solid (Im using a monitor stand so I cant comment on those). Upon installation I was blown away by the display quality and viewing angles. The rumors are really true about these monitors; even though its only a 78% gamut display, you wont know the difference unless you are a professional who relies on color accuracy. The display will blow you away if you are coming from a TN panel. I spent the afternoon looking at photos, admiring the quality of the color reproduction. Its actually much similar to getting a new pair of glasses. Also Id like to add that the input lag is minimal and I was able to play FPS games with no ill effect. However, a month into the purchase I noticed a small plastic plate in the rear had popped out. I had to use a knife to lift the plastic to pop it back in. It hasnt set properly and still pops out slightly. Now, I dont know if this was a defect or a shipping problem, but it is an issue that I believe has to do with the cheap plastic construction used on the monitor. On a related note, the (Amazing) panel feels cheaply constructed on a physical level. When you push in the panel, it has way too much play, going a few millimeters past its point. Now I know these seem like trivial, superficial problems, but I expected much more from such a highly regarded monitor that costs about $280 average (at the time). Overall, Im happy with the monitor, but just beware of what it really is before you dive in. An entry-level monitor with cheap materials with a great display. The construction is really just a minor gripe, and monitor does its job well, so Im giving this 4 stars. Pros: Great colors and viewing angle (The 178 degree viewing angle makes portrait orientation a possibility) Intuitive menu makes for easy, quick adjustments USB hub is very useful Comes with most cables, but not DisplayPort Clean, modern design Cons: Flimsy construction, a lot of play in the display Cheap materials used Anti glare causes some discoloration at certain angles (very, very minimal) EDIT: Just noticed the damaged/defected monitor also has a yellowish tint compared to the other one. I never really noticed until now, dropping a star for that. For me, the color wasnt such a big issue, but for many others, it might be huge. Again, take this monitor for what it is: an upgrade for the average consumer, not for professional creatives who rely on color accuracy. Update from 9/13/2014: Got a chance to use the stand, and I can certainly say that this monitor is rugged where it matters, although there is some shaking if you are typing really hard. But, for 99% of the time, you wont even notice it. Aside from the stand, everything is working as it should, and Ive had no problems except for this tiny bright dot that only shows when there is a white background. Not a huge issue but its there... so I stand by my original rating of 3 stars. The value is there, but Dells QA could use some work.

Ordered a used Dell U2412 monitor from Discount-Computer and Im impressed. The packaging was top notch. The monitor was surrounded by plastic air bags sealed in a box and then within another box. It even arrived a little ahead of schedule. Ordered a grade B monitor. I was a little hesitant at first but figured Id take a chance. Im not disappointed. I was so happy with the purchase that I ordered a second one from the same vendor. No noticable imperfections when the screen is on. I use it for my home office PC. Imho the 16:10 aspect ratio should be the standard for all monitors.
